GunBroker is required to calculate applicable sales tax on purchases shipped to locations where Marketplace Facilitator sales tax requirements apply.
When sales tax applies to your purchase, GunBroker automatically calculates the tax and includes it in the Order Total Payable.
How Is Sales Tax Calculated?
Sales tax is generally calculated based on the Ship To address for the order and the applicable state and local tax requirements.
The amount of tax may vary depending on:
- The Ship To address
- Applicable state and local tax rates
- The type of item purchased
- Whether shipping, handling, or other charges are taxable in that jurisdiction
Because tax requirements vary by jurisdiction, the tax rate shown on your order may differ from the general or statewide sales tax rate you are familiar with.
Who Do I Pay?
GunBroker does not accept payment from buyers on behalf of sellers.
You should pay the seller the full Order Total Payable shown on your order, including any sales tax calculated by GunBroker.
The seller collects the payment from you, and GunBroker collects the applicable Marketplace Facilitator sales tax from the seller and remits it to the appropriate taxing authority.
Why Am I Being Charged Sales Tax?
Marketplace Facilitator laws require online marketplaces such as GunBroker to calculate and remit sales tax on qualifying transactions.
Sales tax is based on applicable tax laws and is not an optional fee charged by GunBroker or the seller.
What If I Am Tax Exempt?
If you qualify for a sales tax exemption, your exemption documentation must be submitted to and approved by GunBroker.
An exemption must be approved on your account for it to be applied to qualifying purchases. Sellers cannot independently remove Marketplace Facilitator sales tax calculated by GunBroker from an order.
For information about submitting exemption documentation, see Sales Tax Exemptions.
What If I Have Questions About the Tax Amount?
If you believe the sales tax on an order was calculated incorrectly, first verify that the Ship To address on the order is correct.
Keep in mind that state and local tax rates can vary by location and that some jurisdictions may also tax shipping, handling, or other charges associated with the purchase.
If the Ship To address is correct and you still believe there is an issue with the tax calculation, contact GunBroker Customer Support for assistance.
