My daughter ....completely agrivating....
Some here already know of my sweetie pie and how aggrivating she can be. Anyone who ever thought parents somehow did a bad job raising their kids to have things go wrong.....doesn't know my family. She is loved, supervised, entertained, edjucated, fed, councelled, listened to and STILL I am shocked at the crap we deal with. I'm not going into the details....but I will say that this time its a BIG thing and it will ruin our entire family's Christmas.

Sounds like you both are normal. But don't let up, your the Mom. Just keep remembering the Big Payoff. 0 -
You have to look ahead, LF: grandchildren, the ONLY valid reason not to kill our own kids.
Another note: You cannot "GET" control of a 16-year-old female. If you don't have it now, you never will.

LF, I hope you didn't take my postings serious..[:o)]
The wife and I took care of my 15 yr old neice one summer. It was a friggin nightmare. She called my home a concentration camp.[}:)] Sister had little problem with her for 6 months when she returned. Then the neice started running with the wrong group. Got caught shoplifting, drugs, and eventually got to go to the state girls home. Nip it in the bud or it will get worse.0 -

Girl I have 5 daughters! If you want to cry on someones shoulder and have them, (me) cry on yours send me an email with a phone number. I could probably tell you stories that would make you run and hug your daughter and tell her what a good girl she is. [:(] 0 -
FWIW my brother spent a good 3 or 4 years of getting into all the worse kinds of trouble, and my mom was always there to bail him out and/or get him into some kind of rehab or program. It kept getting worse and more expensive until she finally let him go to jail with the big boys.
Jail was anything but fun for my brother. He cried and whined and cussed us, sometimes all in the same breath, but we did not "get him out" and he found it a horrific experience that scared him straight.
Jail is bad, and can be very bad, but sometimes that is exactly what it takes for headstrong kids to learn where the path they are on leads. My mom cried more in those weeks than she ever has before, but at the other end of all that pain and suffering was a boy that turned his life around . . . well at least for the most part.0 -

I know it wasn't me. I haven't had any since June or July. And yes, I am old enough to know jailbait when I see it. However, there are some people who subscribe to the school of thought that teaches, "Old enough to bleed, old enough to breed." I, suffice to say, am not one of them.0 -
That car is a mistake. It should be no more than safe transportation and no ego trip.
All kids knock hell out of their first car and collect tickets.
Be prepared for insurance premium shock.

locust, sounds like peer pressure to me, change her peers and or role models, isn't there a hospital where she could volunteer or work, old folks home, volunteer ambulance or fire dept. something worthwile but fun. i don't see why a young lady would not want to persue some goal at that age, and help herself to some career training. if you start finding baggies and such you need to have a sit down. although i believe all kids will try it, along with smoking, she neds to understand where it could land her. sure am glad i'm not you, i don't have that much patience[V][V][xx(] 0 -
LF;
As long as nothing irreversable has happened, you're ok. However, even running with a wrong crowd, (not saying that's the issue) could be something irreversable. Right or wrong, reputations can be formed at a very young age and are hard to change in a small town.
As stated above, I'd try to nip it. All your child psycology books are in favor of bud nippin'.
My mom would probably just ring my ears. In fact, she tried that very tactic the other day, but I was too quick for her. After all, she is 89 years old. Didn't stop her from taking a swing, though.0 -

We are just at our wits end around here. She isn't a bad person.....everyone who knows her is just shocked as can be at all of this lately. I am worried about her reputation. We are in a VERY small town and everyone knows your business. I told her that if I knew someone was pulling the mess she was these days I wouldn't let HER have anything to do with them. That was very upsetting for her to realize. I am hoping that the boyfriend's family helps me and agrees that they should not be together any longer. I hate it...but they are broken up....even if its just me putting my foot down about things. That isn't the only thing changing...just one of the hardest to deal with. 0 -

I don't know about you, but my Parent, never told me anything like that. Well, once i guess. It didn't work. As a matter of fact it had the reverse affect. Unless THEY (your kid and her boyfreind) agree that they want nothing more to do with each other. Otherwise they WILL be knocking boots even if you don't like it.
There are SOME things a parent cannot control. Who your child loves is ONE of those things.
Personally I don't know you or your situation other than what you have revealed. From what I can gather from your postings, you may be doing more harm than good in your parent/child relationship. You are never going to be able to CHOOSE her friends/love interests for her.0 -
We changed our youngest daughters reality in a major way by forcing her to spend more time with us and not her friends. She drives a 1987 station wagon, diesel, 300,000+ miles. Runs on biodiesel. She hates it. But it is what she has to drive. We actually had fun spending more time with her. We eventually let her have friends over to be with us as well. Boy I am glad I don't have to do that again. Good luck. 0 -
You have my heartfelt sympathy, mom. The feeling of helplessness is crushing. I know.

Desire, time and opportunity and it's inevitable to happen.
Put her on the pill before there's a grandchild to worry about.
I suspect the horse is long out of the barn and the cat's out of the bag in your small town.
For damage control I'd still get professional counselling. Her behavior doesn't bother her and it's not likely to change. Since it bothers you, you're going to have to find out how to process that.
Good luck.0 -
I've been accused of being cold-hearted and out of my mind about disciplining kids because I've never had any of my own, but it does put me in a position of some objectivity.
The best thing I've ever seen done in a severe case was taking EVERYTHING away from the child. I had suggested it to my girlfriend at the time, and she wouldn't listen. A woman she worked with had done it, and invited us over to her house to check out the situation. Her daughter's room was barren. There was a mattress and box springs on the floor with sheets and blankets, and one pillow. She was wearing black pants and white blouses to school every day, unless there was a special event. Her mother had all of her other clothes locked in her room, and decided what she would wear to church and other events. She had the opportunity to earn back a piece of furniture every month, and had to go for 6 months before she could have her clothes back.
This was all following a bust on drug charges at a party. It was very extreme, but it worked. She was very respectful, and very helpful around the house. My girlfriend refused to take this approach with her daughter, and as of a year ago, the girl was displaying some pretty shocking behavior. We aren't together any more.0 -
This is all happening at the very worst time it could....hunting season, plus the Christmas shopping season makes my schedule a BEAR as it is. Now, I have to fit in the recommended family counseling and keep my eye on her like a hawk. I just don't know what all will be happening in the next few weeks....but I can tell you guys that sleep is one thing I haven't been doing and probobly won't anytime soon. My nerves are on end. I have snapped a couple of times at the store and went off on idiots that really didn't deserve what they got. I've been fine around normal....but LORD HELP anyone who is a moron around me right now. 0 -
