Actually we could handle it if our civilian leadership gave simple directives and allowed the military to prosecute an agressive war.
You are dead on with this one!0 -

who says we can't handle the one we've got?
Oh that's right: Michael Moore, Nancy Pelosi, John Murtha, Harry Reid, Algore, Ted Kennedy, you, the entire MSM and all the rest of the defeatists within our ranks.0 -

If these guys were taken alive it's because there was nothing to be gained by getting their @$$es shot up.
I know it doesn't satisfy your lust for tales of wartime bravery, but it's not all about you.
Guess those Brit's don't have a Code of Conduct.
I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender the members of my command while they still have the means to resist.0 -

This planet doesn't have a green glow in the dark with three eyed man eating fish and it needs one badly. Crappie fishing is so boring. And now that we have a politically correct motive for dropping the bomb let's "Get er done"....
I forgot again, the kidnapping of BRITISH sailors gives us the right to be the first nation to use nuclear weapons since WWII? It's up to the British to decide whether or not to respond to this, it's not our fight. We are not the world's policemen, let the two nations directly involved handle it.0 -

Dude, Bombing them because they captured the brits would be totally wrong... That is not what I was saying... I am saying that what the world needs is a new lake with some awesome fishing. If it is OK to bomb a country for oil surely to God it would be ok to bomb one to make a great fishing hole... I tell you trully, this planet needs a new fishing hole more then it needs IRAN!!!0 -
How could we bomb Iran on the behalf of Britain?
Remember, Britain is bugging out of Iraq. We can't possibly support a proponent of "cut and run."0 -
The iranians need to be wiped out. Honestly, would you miss them? I sure as hell wouldn't 0 -
Why do I get the feeling there's about a million ex-VC sitting in Vietnam that have been laughing themselves hoarse since the start of this war. 0 -
Yeah, the only time time we'd go to war over an attack on our ally would be if it were Israel. 0 -

We'll wait while you Google it....0 -

you forget one important saying, "live today, fight tomorrow"
Its not that there lives are in danger cause honestly its more like a ploy by Iran, so the guys knew or know they will be released soon.0 -
Don't wory too much about the wars overseas(thats under control)...The war under you feet you cannot see or hear, that will take 20/30 years 'subtley' ,is the one you gotta watch...

I remember it well- I lost a family member that was a AE-6 Intruder pilot from USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 during Jimmy carters botched rescue attempt.
Ahmadinejad, Now the president of Iran was one of the lead terrorists during that crisis.
Here is a pic of him then and now.

I agree that it was 444 too many days, but it wasn't years.
Sounds like newt also isn't aware of N. Korea attacking and seizing one of our Navy vessels in international waters. The 82 survivors of it's crew were held and tortured for close to a year before being released.
He's also missing out on mentioning China's harassment related mid-air collision with a US Navy aircraft over international waters 5-6 years ago. The damage caused by this led to our aircraft being forced to make an emergency landing on Chinese soil. It's 24 crew members were held captive for 11 days.0 -

The way that whole operation was pulled off, I wouldn't be surprised if Billy was in charge of it, though.0 -
At least Jimmy Carter tried something - Reagan gave the ayatollahs weapons.
That is what we call "appeasement," boys and girls!0 -
Looks like we need (well the brits) need to bring Margaret Thatcher (the iron maiden) back. Seem like she is the only one in recent history to have the balls to kick butt when it needs to be kicked.
The Brits let this happen to them two years ago and apparently didn't learn much then. We let the NKoreans take the Pueblo, which they show off with great pride,We let our hostages in Iraq, langush for over a year. This country, G Britan, and the rest of the world needs to understand we are at war with a bunch of savages and we need to revise the rules of engagements to reflect this. We need to surround trouble areas, let the women and children get out and kill all able bodied men in the area. Maybe cut off a few heads like they did Richard Pearl.
Mr Bush needs to get out of the war business (ALA Lindon, "They can't bomb an outhouse unless I authorize it" Johnson and let the military take care of business. Tom
PS I don't think Bush is doing a great job but just what will Nancy Pelotsi or Mr Murtha do. It scares me. T0 -
tccox,
We're not at war with Iran and honestly don't even have to be at loggerheads with them.
I think the level of desire to go to war with Iran is directly proportionate to the level of frustration we experience in Iraq... as if launching yet another war will perhaps yield the clear cut victory we have yet to find in Iraq and therefore salve our wounded egos.0 -

actually, he SOLD them weapons to fund anti-communist forces in Central America. That's called the brutal realities of realpolitik.0 -

tell that to them cause they're certainly not acting like it.0 -
nemesis,
They didn't start this current round of trouble. Bush did by repaying their aid to us against the Taliban and Al Qaeda with name-calling and belligerent speechifying.
And as far as Reagan selling them weapons - that's what we call "semantics." As Iran was under an arms embargo (try redefining that to rescue Alzheimer Gipper's rep), selling or giving - he made them available, thereby appeasing them. They took hostages, he circumvented the international arms embargo and made arms, parts, and munitions available to the ayatollahs.
Realpolitik? Hardly - Iran served no geostrategic purpose insofar as we were relying upon Iraq to contain Iran, not the other way around.
No, he wanted to look like the anti-Carter and avoid any hostage crisis of his own and in doing so taught the ayatollahs that taking hostages was a most profitable venture.0 -

FrancF, Not trying to be a wise ass but just FYI.

A-6 Intruder Attack A/C0 -
British sailors have intruded in Iraq territorial waters. They were arrested for that. At least, the waters into which they went were disputed ones. I doubt that anything bad will happen to them.
They will sign a letter, which will say that their superior officer gave them a direct order to enter those waters, after which they will get sent home, and Iran will have a propaganda card to play.
It will accomplish nothing to kill those sailors. So, I do not fear for their lives.0
