    The raid on Dresden was a terror attack on the civilian population. Having no military value it had few defenses as the allied planes came in with their loads of incendiaries.
    The firestorm they created melted steel and caused thousands of deaths, some in a most gruesome way.
    Hundreds of people who fled to the underground bomb shelters were rendered into liquid from the fantastic heat. Mothers with babies in their arms looked like balloons that had lost their air....



    I don't think anyone got in trouble over that. After all, we won.

    Just a little historic prespective.[|)]

    Those two Japanese cities were also two of the few remaining that had not already been burned out and destroyed to the extent that no realistic demonstration of the power of the atomic bombs could be done. It was not going to be an effective tactic to drop a bomb designed to change minds about surrender on a city that was already destroyed. How could you even begin to tell the extent of the damage capability if there was nothing left to damage in the first place. That factor played a significant role in the decision.[:)]
