GunBroker.com uses Master FFL to help manage the FFL transfer process for items that must be shipped to a Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder.
Master FFL helps connect buyers, sellers, and receiving FFL dealers by managing dealer selection, FFL verification, license documentation, and transfer status updates. This reduces the need for buyers and sellers to coordinate FFL documentation manually and helps keep the transfer process moving after a purchase.
How Master FFL Helps Buyers
When purchasing an item that requires an FFL transfer, buyers can select a receiving dealer during checkout using the GunBroker FFL selector.
The FFL selector helps identify dealers that are appropriate for the transaction by:
- Prioritizing preferred dealers
- Excluding dealers that have opted out of receiving transfers
- Excluding dealers that do not accept transfers from non-FFL sellers when applicable
- Filtering dealers based on SOT/NFA requirements for regulated items
If the selected dealer has not provided their transfer preferences, Master FFL will contact the dealer to confirm that they will accept the transfer.
If the dealer declines the transfer or does not respond within two business days, the buyer will be notified and asked to select another dealer.
Buyers can view updates on the FFL transfer status from their Won Orders. Buyers do not have access to view or download the receiving dealer's FFL license.
How Master FFL Helps Sellers
Master FFL reduces the amount of manual FFL coordination required after an item is sold.
For items requiring an FFL transfer, Master FFL can:
- Contact the receiving dealer to confirm transfer acceptance
- Obtain the dealer's FFL license
- Record when the license is received
- Update the order when the FFL has been received
- Help determine whether an item requires an SOT based on its category
- Coordinate with the receiving dealer when additional transfer information is needed
Sellers can monitor the transfer from their Sold Orders.
Once the receiving dealer's license has been obtained, the order status will update to FFL Received and display a timestamp. The seller can then view or download the FFL license from the Sold Order.
This allows sellers to obtain the documentation needed to ship an FFL-required item without having to independently request the license from the receiving dealer.
How Master FFL Helps Receiving Dealers
FFL holders can claim and manage their dealer profile through Master FFL.
Managing your profile allows you to maintain information about the types of transfers you accept, helping buyers select an appropriate receiving dealer and reducing unnecessary transfer requests.
FFL holders participating in the GunBroker FFL Dealer Network should keep their license and transfer preferences current.
FFL and NFA/SOT Transfers
Master FFL also assists with transactions involving additional licensing requirements.
When an item's category indicates that an SOT may be required, the FFL selector can restrict dealer selection to dealers that are eligible to receive the applicable NFA-regulated item.
This helps reduce situations in which a buyer selects a receiving dealer that cannot complete the required transfer.
Master FFL Document Processing Fee
GunBroker provides Master FFL transfer services to automate FFL verification, license management, and coordination between buyers, sellers, and receiving dealers.
A Master FFL Document Processing Fee is assessed to sellers for items requiring an FFL transfer:
- $5 per sold item – Transfers from licensed FFL sellers
- $7 per sold item – Transfers from non-licensed sellers
- $10 per sold item – NFA/SOT-regulated transfers
The fee applies per item sold and processed through Master FFL and is separate from other applicable GunBroker fees and any transfer fee charged by the receiving dealer.
The Master FFL Document Processing Fee applies to transactions requiring an FFL transfer even when the seller or receiving dealer uses another FFL management or compliance system.
A More Streamlined FFL Transfer Process
By integrating dealer selection, FFL verification, document collection, and transfer-status updates into the GunBroker transaction process, Master FFL helps:
- Reduce manual communication between buyers, sellers, and receiving dealers
- Prevent selection of dealers that cannot accept a particular transfer
- Reduce delays caused by missing FFL documentation
- Improve handling of NFA/SOT transfer requirements
- Provide buyers and sellers with better visibility into transfer status
- Help sellers obtain the FFL documentation needed to complete shipment
Master FFL does not replace the receiving dealer's transfer procedures or legal requirements. Buyers, sellers, and FFL holders remain responsible for complying with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and the requirements applicable to the transaction.
