This page explains how state-based restrictions work for both buyers and sellers on GunBroker.
For Sellers
Can I block buyers from certain states?
Yes. Sellers can restrict bidding from specific states by updating their Listing Defaults.
How do I set state restrictions?
You can manage state restrictions in My GunBroker > Toolbox > Listing Tools > Listing Defaults, where you can select and add states you do not wish to sell to.
Do I need to add states individually?
Yes. Each state must be selected and added one at a time before saving your changes.
Do state restrictions apply to all my listings?
State restrictions apply only to new listings created using the Listing Default template you updated. Existing listings are not affected.
Can buyers still see my listings if their state is blocked?
In most cases, yes. However, buyers in blocked states will not be able to place bids.
Why do sellers block certain states?
Common reasons include:
- Compliance with state or local laws
- Shipping or transfer limitations
- Business policies or personal preferences
For Buyers
Why can’t I place a bid on a listing?
The seller may have restricted sales to your state. If your location is excluded, bidding will be disabled.
Is this restriction set by GunBroker?
No. State restrictions are set by individual sellers and vary from listing to listing.
Will I be notified if my state is restricted?
Yes. If your state is blocked, you will see a message indicating that the seller does not sell to your location.
Can I still view listings I can’t bid on?
Yes. You may be able to view the listing details, but bidding will not be available.
Can GunBroker override a seller’s state restrictions?
No. GunBroker cannot override seller-defined restrictions.
What can I do if I still want the item?
You may contact the seller directly to ask whether they are willing to make an exception. Sellers are not required to change their restrictions.
