Man Tasered to Death at Vancouver Airport

A long time ago, I arrested a man and put him in a cell. Before I ended my shift, he took off his jeans and used them to hang himself. I reckon I killed him???? I was the last person to touch him or talk to him. After all, had I not put him in jail, had he been allowed to go on his way, he might still be alive today.
Do I feel badly about it? No. I feel badly for the toddler with asphalt ground into his butt, battered and bruised from being slammed into a parking lot by this poor misunderstood soul.
I figure it was a final conviction for Injury to a Child.0 -

I have to agree with Mr. Nunn, about Mr. gskyhawk failing reading
comprehension. You totally missed the point I was trying to make
about dark buildings and confronting a crackhead with a weapon.
So I will not entertain trying to clarify it because it would be
a wasted effort. IMHO people who think everyone else hates the
police as they do probably did something in their lives that was illegal and had a confrontation with the police. So therefore they hate them for doing their jobs on them. Like I said before, if you think you can do it better.0 -
no you guys are missing the POINT THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN IN A DARK BUILDING IN HAPPENED IN A DAMN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WHERE HE HAD BEEN WATCHED FOR OVER TEN 10 HOURS UNTIL THE 4 COPS CAME IN AND CAUSE HIS DEATH

What part of this do you not understand? Until the autopsy is complete, we don't know what caused his death. The last person to touch him didn't necessarily kill him.

You're the one missing the point. I agree the death of this individual was unfortunate. But to say they should have done this
and they should have done that is rediculous. If you haven't been
in the situations that law enforcement officers encounter almost
on a daily basis how can you be such an expert on making decisions
that they make. If you're that good, then go be a police officer.
We are not any better than anyone else. We go home everyday to
families and pets just like the guy who works nine to five in
a factory or office. But we do what they prefer not to. Not everyone
is cut out to be an officer, just like not everyone is cut out
to do whatever it is you do. But I wouldn't sit here and tell you
how to do your job. I'm sure the coronor's office in Vancouver will
determine what the cause of death was and if there was any
wrongdoing on the officer's part they will deal with it. But don't
down all law officers for that.0 -

did either of you guys even bother to watch the whole video? it clearly says st the end that an autopsy showed that there where NO drugs or alcohol in his system ,
do you understand that he would still be alive if the 4 cops had not tasered and stood on his neck ?
did they even try to give the poor guy CPR , hell no , whining up the taser wires seemed to be more important
when you taser some one that is just standing there doing nothing but looking at you and then 4 of you jump on the guy with one putting his knee right on the guys neck and jumping up and down several times until he quits breathing ,, too me thats plain murder0 -
There is a fundamental belief that some people have that your own well being is the responsibilty of others. The people who suffer the most because of this belief is the police. The fact is, your life is YOUR responsibility and if that man in the airport wanted to be alive all he had to do was handle his own affairs and take care of himself. I dont get drunk or high on drugs and then expect people to take care of me even when I get crazy and act menacing. I take it upon myself to always keep myself in a condition where I have the capacity to control and provide for my own well being.
When society wakes up and stops asking the police to babysit us during our times of self inflicted turmoil then these things will stop happening.0 -

VANCOUVER-In a bizarre twist to a tragic story, a B.C. RCMP officer involved in the death of a man who was shocked by Tasers now stands accused in a fatal drunk driving accident.
The officer, whose name was not released, is currently a member of the RCMP's Olympic Integrated Security Unit, which is preparing security for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
He was off-duty Saturday night when the accident occurred in suburban Delta, B.C. Police said Orion Hutchinson, 21, was catapulted from his motorcycle when hit by a Jeep. He died at the scene.
Police say the driver of the Jeep now faces charges of impaired driving causing death and having a blood-alcohol level exceeding the legal limit.
RCMP Sgt. Tim Shields confirmed yesterday that the officer was one of four RCMP members involved in the police confrontation with Robert Dziekanski last October at Vancouver International Airport. Officers used a Taser to subdue an agitated Dziekanski and he died on the floor of the airport. Video of the incident prompted a public outcry.0 -

As a former paramedic, I can attest to the fact that defibrillators are fully capable of killing you. Virtually any application of electric current to the body, under the right conditions, can cause bodily injury or death. Even properly used defibrillators can cause burns, injury to blood vessels, nerves and heart tissue.0 -

I didn't watch this video, but I saw a show on this incident last night on tv. They replayed the scuffle a half dozen times.
Let us say that you are an airport police officer.
You have a big, 40 year old guy who is acting crazy. On the video I saw, he was picking up tables, and throwing them at the windows. Those big windows must have been plexiglass because he was smashing the tables into them, and they didn't break.
So you are the police officer on the scene.
You can't talk to the guy. For all you know, the guy will throw the table at a civilian and injure them badly. You have to get this guy under control.
I am as big as this man but I wouldn't want to take him on, hand to hand. You make a habit of doing that, you are going to get hurt. In a hand to hand tussle, he could grab your pistol. I would have used the taser.

if every thing was done by the book, then why lie about it or make a false report? thats the part that seems to run thru these cases. do the offices make false reports and lie because they know what happened was wronge or are they just scared? there may be a better way to handle these things and maybe the police with change how they operate in the future after this. sad,sad. eastbank. 0 -
The guy should have stayed home where he could be safe in his easy chair while the veins in his neck popped out and his blood pressure went through the roof by senseless arguing with a bunch of nutjobs on some internet forum. 0
