I HATE CALIFORNIA!!!!
i just got into the second argument of the week about gun rights. Apperently my tree hugging co-workers believe that there should be a law that prohibits ALL guns in the U.S. Although there were only two people that were makeing there points agianst gun rights the whole night shift decided to jump in and go against me as well. I was the only one that was for gun rights.I felt cornered! All of them belived that people like me were the reason that there was violence and death in the world. I tried to get my point accross but no one would let me get a word in. Someone make me feel better about protecting and argueing for my beliefs. I HATE CA!

Gun owners, more than any other segment of society, are the least likely to say, "Not my problem." When we someone in distress, we offer aid. When we see a wrong, we do our best to right it. If you choose to stay in California you should stay in California. It's even OK to lie to me and the rest of the world that you have no choice. You really should be honest with yourself though. If you stay in California, it's because you choose to stay.
Your reasons for staying remind me of a lot of the former (now unemployed) coal miners in West Virginia. "My grandfather and father were born, lived and died here, and by God, I'll live and die here." "I would rather work for a living, but nobody will give me a job."
If you want to work for a living, you have to go to the place where you can work for a living. Much the same way if you want to be happy, you have to go to a place where you can be happy. Old zipperzap chooses to stay in California, but he'll tell you straight out that he likes California better than the other forty-nine states. If I liked California more than Virginia I would live in California. As it happens I don't care much for the place.
If you are tied to a place because of work or family or other reasons, then you are tied to the place, BUT, if you want to leave that place you can start working on making the change. When I left Alabama I left family. When I left North Carolina I left family. When I left New Jersey I sold property. When I left Virginia I sold property. When I returned to Virginia I bought property. I live in Virginia because I like Virginia more than the other forty-nine states. I've lived in several places I didn't want to, but each time it was temporary and I knew it.

Probably, because the state is the size of Japan or England.
Probably because Yosemite National Park, King's Canyon National Park, Sequoia National Park, The Redwood Forests, Death Valley, The Mojavi, and Anza Borrego deserts.
Probably because Baja - the `Big Desert Lonely' is just south of here - 20 miles south.

Probably because I like trout fishing while I'm camping on the trout rivers throughout the state.

Well put Zipper......... I was born here and love it. I can see the ocean from my house. The desert is 90 mins away, the mountains are 90 mins away. Great weather all year. I dont have to walk in 2 ft of snow for 3 months of the year.
The only 2 things I would improve about Calif are the gun laws and illegal aliens.0 -
I grew up as a child and teenager in Pacific Beach and Crown Point areas of San Diego. My 1st summer job was at Vacation Village. I wouldn't trade those memories for nothing! I miss surfing down by Crystal Pier, Capri by the sea, boogie boarding Bird Rock and skiing Mission Bay in the 70's Miss that place! [:)] 0 -

Zipper in the 50s 60s and 70s I would have agreed with you that California was a fine place to live. It wasn't the only great place to live but one of the best. I don't believe that is true anymore. One of the reasons you gave is the climate. That has remained unchanged. Most of the reasons you gave have to do with recreation areas/facilities/attractions/parks. Most of these are much less than they were but are still nice to a degree. Other than "full of beautiful college co-eds" you didn't mention people. I believe that was what Nhoppt was talking about. There are way too many people in California and more than an average amount are weird. Before you create a stampede of new people to California I modified your post with a little additional information;

If you live in Laaaa Jooollaaa or with in 15 miles of the Beach. Majove desert gets hotter than the hinges on the gates of hell.

Camp Pendelton, North Island. Others are protected because of habitat. South beaches have sewage problems from that exotic country to the South. Some are close to sewer lines and the sewer lines do break often.

When guns are merely a 'sport'..laws restricting them are rather meaningless.
When guns represent something called 'freedom' to a person..they aquire rather more meaning.
Many...if not most are quite content with the 'sporting' connotation for firearms.

ok, i was a little harsh on CA, i was really upset, since i was being backed into a corner. bottom line for me not leaving is,..I like it here, ALL my family is here,my friends and most importantly,my family history is here. The property i spoke of, my great-grandfather got the money for the land by bootlegging alcohol during the prohabition. it would be really hard for me to leave all that behind.
the probelm i have is that people here have such a narrow minded view on firearms, and for some reason, on a monthly basis i am defending my beliefs,views, and rights,...But i do thank you all for the advice and support!!!! It helps[:D]0 -
I keep hearing people say that California is against guns, there may be some people that are but there are also a ton of people that are pro gun. Just for an example, the shop that I work at has sold over 2000 guns in the past 5 months that we have been open. And to think that people said that nobody buys guns in CA. 0 -
Nhoppt, don't forget to tell these people that, In view of their opinions on guns, you promise not to use yours to defend them if they are ever being raped, robbed, or assaulted. Of course also let them know that none of that could ever happen to them anyway, cause everybody is good deep down, just misunderstood. 0 -

I only read a few of the responses to this, but that's all I need to read. So, I can only offer these comments:
1. California. Love it or leave it.
2. Never, never, never get into this type of conversation at work.
3. There is a concerted, government-sponsored effort to Socialize the United States that has a 100 year plan. That "plan" started back in the 1920s and it is running a little behind by a small margin. Guns are one of the last things that must be eliminated for the plan to truly take effect. The only way to stop this is to become active in your community in a positive way. This means you MUST become educated before you start opening your mouth. So do that and then get busy.0 -
I hope this is not a new realization for you. The arrogance of the state and big city governments is astounding. Chairman Mao would be pleased his handiwork crossed the Pacific without a shot being fired.

You will have water rationing if there is another 2" rainfall like last year. I was just down there and it looked like hell. More fire storms like the last one and fire insurance will be more expensive than coastal land.
I would like to be rid of the three houses I own there. I made my decision to move away 4 years ago, and I would not move back. When away for a while you can see the eroding of American culture and the increase of Mexican culture. Just check out the amount of Mexican radio stations vs. English stations.0
