I HATE CALIFORNIA!!!!
i just got into the second argument of the week about gun rights. Apperently my tree hugging co-workers believe that there should be a law that prohibits ALL guns in the U.S. Although there were only two people that were makeing there points agianst gun rights the whole night shift decided to jump in and go against me as well. I was the only one that was for gun rights.I felt cornered! All of them belived that people like me were the reason that there was violence and death in the world. I tried to get my point accross but no one would let me get a word in. Someone make me feel better about protecting and argueing for my beliefs. I HATE CA!

If taking guns out of the our hands is the answer to volience then why is D.C., Ill, and Calilifoia's crime rate so high? 0 -
I feel for ya man. Never back down to those guys no matter how out numbered you are, STAND your ground. Hang in there and know you have like minded friends here on GB. Thank you GOD for putting me in the great state of Nebraska![:)] quote:Originally posted by Nhoppt

Nhoppt....... Your problem is not where you live, its where you work. Sounds like you work with a bunch of uneducated fools.
Well put Zipper......... I was born here and love it. I can see the ocean from my house. The desert is 90 mins away, the mountains are 90 mins away. Great weather all year. I dont have to walk in 2 ft of snow for 3 months of the year.
The only 2 things I would improve about Calif are the gun laws and illegal aliens.
You absolutely nailed it Laredo! Well stated. You know how much we hear that kind of hogwash ...l mostly from folks who 1.) don't live here/never have and 2.) who have never been here but 'heered' from a friend ... whose cousin Ida had just spoke to ... which was her nephew's brother ... about how much trouble he was having getting put on the welfare in South East Los Angeles..
I tend to find it amusing, though - and fun to answer - if I've got a free moment, or two.
That 'Probably rant' is canned - saved on my word processor - archieved - for just such as forum attack by the misinformed and lacking. So far, nobody's ever taken up the challenge ... thirty years and (still) waiting. That says a lot.
Too busy last night to follow up on this thread - I knew it'd raise some hackles, always does - had a wedding reception down at the beach for an old surfer buddy of mine - guy's 60+ and never misses a sunrise down at South Mission Beach.
I tell folks, who don't like California, to stay away - don't come to visit, don't call, we are all suffering here in solitude, alone, weeping stoically, hiding in our little ramshackle stucco hovels. As I said before, I've driven/toured every state but one, all the Canadian Provinces except the Mid-Western Three and all over Mexico ... more than just a few times.
Cost of living here IS higher IF you live in one of the three largest cities - elsewhere, it's probably lower than most of the places where YOU live - food's actually much cheaper in most places - goes with being the seventh largest economy in the world - we grow/raise more food than anyone else in the U.S.
Speaking of elsewhere, in the U.S., I travel often, when and where I choose - I was just back to IL, WA, OR, MI, PA, NY, DE, NJ, MD and FL this past Summer and Fall ... and I've got some Earthshaking News for YOU, friends ... the cost of living ie. gasoline, NG, fuel oil (which nobody in these parts needs to buy, anyway) food, clothing, housing etc., etc. is sky-high EVERYWHERE in the U.S. but our wages - on the average - are higher, too.
Frankly, the only 'meaningful' difference between myself and most of my California peers, here, is that many of us had the sense to go to school and get well paying jobs - started working at 16 - painting the outsides of large three story apartment houses on long ladders, in the sun, and picking (piece work) lemons and oranges up in Santa Barbara for Sunkist - on long ladders on steep hillsides ... we paid off our mortgages in 20 ... invested most of the rest ... and retired quite comfortably at 55 or 60.
Looks like YOU are now getting most of the illegals - they seem to be leaving town, as they are heading YOUR way to vie for YOUR jobs - by the millions - and YOUR traffic is WORSE than just about anyplace I've seen in California - except, of course, for Los Angeles during rush hour ... (I stay away from Los Angeles as much as I can, anyway) ... in Boston, Chicago, Detroit, New York, Philadelphia and DC it's just a seven way tie, now. The only difference it that our freeways are bigger and we have many more of them - and will be able to get creative with matched lane flow with specific time references - I don't know what the rest of you are going to do - I shutter to even imagine.
So girls and boys - if arrogance is an occasional reality check, then so be it. Personally, I have always thought statements beginning with the words "I Hate ...!" is the epitome of arrogance - when referring to someone else's home. You'll never catching me doing that - my mother wouldn't have allowed it - my father would have quietly put me through the wall. LOL
As I said before - impress me - change my mind - I'll be there in a second, hat in hand, all apologetic like and even groveling for forgiveness ... but, until then, save your breath, shout those ridiculous words I HATE CALIFORNIA! to yourself - not many here take note, too busy enjoying the sun and fun to wonder what the less fortunate are doing elsewhere ... or they, ?No hablan ni entienden ingl?s, de todas formas!
Oh, yes, and it DOES rain in Sunny California - rained yesterday and last night, matter of fact!

Sorry, zipperzap, it's all BS what you're saying. Everything but the weather. 0 -
Don't believe it is a matter of being "less fortunate",.....different folks like different things.
I have been out there several times, and while the scenery and weather is nice, I personally have never seen so many fruits, and nuts, combined in one location.
Maybe if Los Angeles, and San Francisco were gone, it might change with time.
LA, is a cesspool of humanity, and San Fran,.......well, nice things to see if you don't mind being in a city where 50% or more, are gay.
Extreme liberal politics abound, and the gun laws are nuts.
Other than that, I have no issue with California.
I CAN afford to live there, but would not live anywhere around the above mentioned locations.0 -

Yes it is, Elmo.

Who cares about what CA is or isn't as long as doesn't spew its vile onto other states?
Where's Jimbowby?0 -
Sorry Elmo ... didn't mean to rile you agin. Bettah check that blood pressure - looks
like it's on the rise!
Jim's elsewhere.0 -
The obvious simple answer is that you need to work on your debating techniques.
'Sides, would you want to live someplace where everybody you met was a clone of you? How boring.0 -
For me - there ain't no debate about it - it's just a matter of edUcatin!

Given these two posts... well, unless you're talking to yourself, you better take your own words as aimed at yourself then. [;)]0 -
Zip, just for the record, I have been to California. Many more times than I ever cared to. That's how I found out I didn't like the place.
I'm not interested in convincing you or anyone else what you should or should not like. It would be pointless anyway. If everybody like the same things and the same places, everywhere would suck. [;)] [:D]0 -
Only had TWO things I HAD to do today. Both had to do with pickin. The third is purely a bonus - that's at the bottom.
First thing:
Second thing:
Tangelos
Blood Oranges
Keylimes
Washington Oranges
Grapefruit & Lemons
AND HERE'S WISHING YOU A VERY
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
... even the Scroogy guys!
[:D]0 -
Yeah, I been to that Del Mar gun show. The one in Pomona is better.
And yes it is nice to go outside and pick Oranges, Limes, Lemons, and Avocados from the trees just beyond the pool. But all in all I just don't like the way things are going in the State. With the Terminator signing laws that make the public school system a joke, and the crowds and Mexican culture taking over, I'm not interested in living there again. You only have Rick Roberts and Roger Heagcock on your side, and that ain't very good odds.
But hey if you like it then stay there. I have friends that live less than a couple of miles from you and they like it just fine.0 -
OK, then I'll stay here.

There's a lot to be said for being happy with where you live.
Me I'll be happy when I retire,and I wount live where I do now.[8D]0 -
I retired here.
I went back to work here.
... and someday, I may even retire again, here.
I've already picked my avacado tree to 'retire' for the last time under.

Hey Zip,
If California is so great, why do you continue to travel so much to all the other states? Is it to see what all you're missing?
Thanks---Peabo0 -
Alpine...... Dont you mean the one in Pomona "WAS" better. They have not had gun shows in Pomona for about 12 years. 0 -

They have not had gun shows in Pomona for about 12 years. And, the last time I went to the Del Mar show (about 3 years ago) it wasn't much more than a nice size swap meet and junk sale. At least it didn't have the quality and type of guns it had about 10-15 years ago!0 -

Nah - most of my out of state friends currently live out of state.[:D]
Generally, I don't leave California from June through August - I'm a
beach person and I like California beaches more than any others. I
don't like biting flies or mosquitos.
Last summer, I made an exception, and went up to McMinnville and took
Doug Wilson up on his invitation - where Gale and I met Doug and Sig.
toured/wined/and dined with them.
I've always liked travelling. My dad used to set aside the month
of August for travelling. My wife's dad did the same thing. He
insisted on one big summer vacation every year - and then lots
of smaller ones in between.
When Gale and I had small children, we bought a '92 stretch Aerostar and
drove it all over North America, four or five times. We've taken the kids on
airplane vacations, cruise vacations, camping vacations until the kids asked
us to stop - they were about 17 and 18 - we did - and now we pretty much
fly away every chance we get - except June - July. I think Augusts from now
on will be reserved for Costa Rica and Alaska.
I married two ladies - in succession - who loved(s) to travel - the latest, Gale
(Victim #2), refuses to travel in the summer heat and the humidity of the East
and Midwest.
This summer, I flew all over the East and Midwest socialising with mainly those -
who lived in hot sticky places.
Now, there is an increasingly strong motivation to travel all over for business
because I've been told I'm a "master at BS" and I'm becoming the unofficial
ambassador for Golden State Motion Picture Studio(s) - unless that name
changes again. That travel, however, has been strictly voluntary, so when it's
fun, I go - if not, it's a no!
Next month I've been asked to go to 'Thighland' for GSMPS. Still thinking
about that one - have to give them an answer next week. It's been a long
time since I was in Bangkok. I'll probably go ... just hate to stir up some of
the old ghosts there of decades ago.
Speaking of vacations - Japanese corporations insist that their employees 'go
abroad' once every three years - four years for some - so that they can see
how well they have it in Japan. They've been doing it for years - it's quite
effective, I understand. Too bad we don't do it here - the United States has the
least vacation time of any industrialized country ... can't say I'm surprised.
Gale and I just had our 25th Wedding Anniversary on Tuesday - tonight's the
celebration part. Some friends are throwing us a little something tonight so I
must close and put on some clean jeans!
... as always, fellas ... it's been a hoot!
[:D]0 -

Keep many a fond memory.
My two youngest were born in SoCal.

.....I'm a "master at BS"
Zip, I think that is the most truthful thing that you have ever posted !
Thanks---Peabo0 -
Been to California many times when I lived in Oregon. I won't be going back. I don't really dislike the state besides it being over crowded in my opinion, I just dislike the laws and liberals. 0 -
zipperzap (ZZ in the future), what do you think about SF Bay Area, SF specifically, position towards our Armed Forces? 0 -
Everything zipperzap says about SoCal is absolutely true. Those of you who disagree with him must be blind. California is the next best thing to Paradise. Two of my Wonderful Children were born there, and that's probably why they are wonderful.
I am moving there as soon as I can.
But the rest of you - don't wait for me - go ahead and get started for zipCountry - NOW.
OryGun sucks.

that I'm concerned about!
