Proud of his hi point?

So, my process server, who also is a court officer, bail bondsman, and does his own skips, buys a hi point 9mm. He LOVES it, says its the best thing since sliced bread. Now, I have never shot or handled one. I also know of their "reputation". How deserved it that reputation? Hartley Peavey, of Peavey guitars, once said that there's nothing mystical about any electric gutiar - it's not like it was dunked in magical swamp water. Thoughts?

    i'm still waiting to hear the name of one professional shooter who uses a high point, the claim was made ON THIS FORUM it should be proved on this forum, it's not our job to search the member data base of another forum

    while your at it name this police agency that has high point as their issued duty weapon

    and yes i have shot them, i have seen them get shot, some worked some didn't, but none where accurate, before you flame here you need to learn a bit about the shooters you are flaming, trying to push off a cheap firearm as good as a gock, S&W, H&K may work on the novice, they are what they are {don't pizz on me and tell me it's raining}

    btw the carbines are ok for the price it is hard to beat

    edit:here is this years i.d.p.a. nationals find me one shooter who was using a high point hand gun

    ps. they publish every firearm manufacturer used i have the list

    i would just like to see one "master" class shooter who uses one

    Wow! I just came here to learn more about guns, not get all invested in emotional issues that happen to deal with guns. Good grief, guys! You would think somebody insulted your mother! We're talking about a brand of guns.

    And anybody who has nothing better to do than invade a forum to prevent some percieved wrong needs to get a life. I play guitar, I like a particular brand, lots of folks think that brand is trash. I don't go out scouring the internet for those people to try to correct their mis-informed impressions. Who has time for such nonsense??

    Is Hi Point a religion, and I mistakenly thought they were gun manufacturers?

    Well, I decided to try my 9mm Hi-Point again this afternoon. After all, maybe it's just me. So I loaded up both magazines with shells out of the white box from Wal-Mart, and went to work.

    Shot 6 rounds, and the gun shucked the magazine, leaving an unfired shell jammed in the action. I removed the jam, and a single bullet from the unused magazine. Then using the new magazine, shot 5 rounds, and the gun shucked the magazine, leaving an unfired shell jammed in the action. I removed the jam, went and got my Taurus .357 Magnum, and managed to finish off the target, which until that time, had shown very little wear and tear.

    So, I guess it's time to put up or shut up....I'll contact Hi-Point, with a nicely fashioned and respectable letter, and see if they're interesting in trying to alter my opinion and give me a new and better perspective on the gun, and the company.

    I don't mind the looks, don't mind the size, absolutely hate the trigger pull (which is why the target was so little worn), but also hate having a dangerous and more or less useless gun around the house.

    We'll see....

    I've never seen, handled or shot a Hi-Point, but this is one of their rifles, correct?

    I have no doubt that there are some Hi Points that are not fit for ownership, but then, I also have no reason to believe that this is not true with all other brands. I will also say that not very many years ago, before they went to polymer, I never heard anything good about them. I can also tell you that the friend with the Kimbers that I spoke of spent many a disheartened moments with jams while we shot together. Now, when a $1000 dollar gun, new out of the box, is a jamomatic what is to be said?
    I can only state that the Hi Points that I own have been flawless in their actions. Yes, I suppose any and all guns can go KBOOM, and from time to time they do just that. I won't make any claims as to how any brand is without it's faults. Having said all that, I personally have had nothing but good service to date with my pistols, and from this standpoint would not hesitate to buy them again.

    Hi-Points are made of a Polymer Frame same as Glocks not pot metal. Can you send me a link where there is a picture of a Hi-point that "KBed"? john Browning himself perfected "Blow-Back" pistols. Its 2007 you don't think we can make a pistol as good/safe as they did 100 years ago? Its not rocket science! Can you show me where there is a defect in this form of operation? Are you saying/writing all "Blow-Back" pistols are unsafe? As Americans you know how people are aways looking for deep pockets to sue. Would Hi-Point make a defective pistol, knowing that just one case can/will put them out of business?Dean

    add edit:what does john browning have to do with the design of high point, most semi auto hand guns are blow back designs, it doesn't make the high point any better than it is, as i have stated above
