Occupation, what do you do?

Just wondering what some of you guys (and gals) do to earn the $$$$ to pay for this not so cheap hobby that we have!!

I was a machinist by trade, courtesy of Uncle Sam. I picked up my trade in the Navy (Lifemember V.F.W. Post 7687), served my apprenticeship and worked for an Aerospace company for the last 25 years. Retired last February and enjoying life ever since.

My wife runs a lab for an analytical testing company doing materials testing and analysis.

We have 4 kid's, 3 girls and a boy who all par-take in shooting sports of one kind or another.

So, there's a little background on me.

    man, engineers are getting scarce these days. In the last 15 years, I've only worked for one small market station that had it's own engineer. Dude wrote his own paycheck. These days, we call in freelancers, hold our breath and hope for the best. We use one guy outta Ft Collins who is real good. When we can get him.

    I miss the old days.

    Colonel Plink, it's the same all over I guess. SCETV still keeps a few on full time, but they have twelve TV transmitters, forgotten how many FM's.

    Started off delivering newspapers (the Chicago Tribune)when I was a kid. Then went into the military (72-78)Sionics as specialty.Tool & Diemaker for 25yrs.developed allergy to cutting fluids and went back to college to get my Associates in Computer Science(babysit 183 no-minds @ AT&T) Got exposed to Black Mold at work,have permanent respiratory damage and applying for SSD.Also was FAA and DOT certified welder,steeplejacked for awhile. Long time old time gearhead(still have a 10.90 1/4mi. car in the garage).Also a certified male chauvinist pig (according to my old lady(and I'm the grouchy old fart)). Working on finishing up getting my ducks in a row to retire(medically) from A-holes,Texans,and Thieves(they get the BEST management staff from McDonalds(DUHHHH!!!)).
    In the last 3 yrs I've had back surgery(artificial disk that isn't FDA approved yet!)Double bypass surgery(which I died 3 times during the process...but my guardian angels want me around for some reason or another)and in 06 I had a radical prostatectomy (which I'm still having some complications from(but the cancer's all gone though))
    That's my life in a nutshell(minus a couple details)

    Actually...that's a funny anomaly. When my dad was an executive chef for Hilton...they transferred him to Buffalo NY and that's not far from "Love Canal" (which I have an old military buddy that lived there(his daughter was born with a hole in her heart because of "Agent Orange"...and I'm not a real young pup...I'm over 50...in age,mentally...that's questionable!!! :-)

    I crested fifty, two yrs ago. From 70-75, I lived about 10mi from Love Canal but seem to have escaped unscathed. Good genes, I hope. Many of my friends, who spent their lives in that area, were not so fortunate. Anyway, heres hoping that the worst is over, for you and our NEXT 50 yrs will be healthy or at least the nurses will be good looking. Cheers![8D]

    Electronics engineer/Field Engineer for company that trains Dr's to implant stents and other various catheter delivered devices in the heart and vascualture. We have a simulator that mimics the human body, gives a tactile response to what you do, simulates the effects of drugs and responds to the actions of the operator much like a human does. Im in charge of turning it on and off. As of the 28th of Feb, I go back to project managing/engineering of large format audio/video and access control systems. Cant take the travel anymore.

    I farm for a living. Row crops like cotton and peanuts. Farm about 2700 acres not real good money but it sure is hard work. Ive been at it for about 25 yrs

    In the summer I run a snowmobile dealership in South Georgia and in winter I drive log truck on the high plains of Wyoming. I find that I have less competition that way.

    8 yrs as a welder/ironworker now i work for an architect. make more money plus better working conditions. I can go hunting and enjoy it now not just a weekend warrior anymore it has been great.
