So... how did you meet your sweetheart?
Happy Hearts Day to all of the lovebirds here.
My publisher asked for submissions from those of us who write, asking to tell the story of how we met that someone special in our lives. I thought it was a neat idea, so I went ahead and sent in mine.
If you'd care to read about it, you can click here:
http://denver.yourhub.com/HighlandsRanch/Stories/Holidays/Valentines-Day/Story~183048.aspx
If you guys (or gals) want to join in, why not tell your story in this thread? How did you meet your sweetheart? What convinced her (or him) to agree to go out with you?
BTW, if you're interested in seeing what Mrs. SpanielSells looks like, this is your ONLY chance. I never post her photo.

When I was 22 I lived in a small cottage on a river. I had an annual (2nd) Luau party and a friend and his girlfriend brought along a friend that had just dumped her boyfriend. The moment I saw her I was struck. I introduced her that night as the woman I was going to marry. I told everyone there including my mother that this was the girl for me. This year we will have been married 22 years. 0 -

Cool... and congrats!
This year will be our 5th anniversary. She claims she still loves me. I still wonder why, but consider myself lucky.0 -

How totally nifty. Does your wife know that you thought she was a guy, and does she laugh about it? [:D]0 -
I was still pretty busted up about my second divorce when one of our clients brought his new assisstant manager in to record their weekly ad.
The minute I looked into those great, big brown eyes, I forgot all about...
...gosh, what was my second wife's name, anyway?
That was September 1992.0 -

She and I were a serious item in high school and much of our undergrad time. I lived for her. When I finally proposed after graduation, she was hesitant and I was young, soon finding someone who wasn't hesitant. So The One and I went on to other people, other lives. Thirty-four years later, I walked into an event of our high school reunion, and there she was. My three-and-a-half-decade rehearsal for apology wasn't needed. We were both pretty much free again. It was as if our relationship had just been on hold. That was almost seven years ago. Maybe we'll sell script rights to the chick channel. 0 -

Met my wife at my company's Christmas Party 13 yrs ago. She was friends with a girl who worked for us and was a photographer as a hobby, so when my cheap-a** boss talked about getting a photographer for our party, the girl said she would ask Cheryl (my wife). She told Cheryl that the boss probably wouldn't pay, but it would be a good party.
I saw Cheryl walk into the room and said "WOW!!!" (on the inside). On the outside I was cool. We talked several times throughout the evening. We discovered that we both had been married before but had no kids and shared MANY interests. I was mesmerized. I asked her for her phone#, which she gave me.
I called her the next day and asked her out. Did I mention that we lived 2 hours apart? Well, we compared schedules and made a date for December 29th. I was visiting my folks (who at the time lived 2 hours PAST Cheryl) for Christmas and would be returning home about then. My plan was to keep the date, have a nice evening and drive the two hours back home after dinner. Did I mention it was December?
I made the trip back to Cheryls, that December 29th, while a winter storm was headed in. We went to dinner and had a wonderful time talking 'till about 1am. I left, despite her offer to let me sleep on the couch (okay so I'm not the brightest bulb). I made it about 10 miles in my 1984 F150 and the wind was about pushing me off the icy road. I pulled in to an Econolodge, payed too much for a room and tried to sleep, WITH my clothes on and practically no heat. The wind literally blew snow under the door and into the room.
Anyway, I made it home the next day and we talked numerous times over the next couple of weeks. We dated 'long distance' for almost 2years. We traveled together and hiked, biked, sailed and had a great time together. One day she called and said the company she worked for had an opening in my town. She asked me what I thought. I told her I would be happy to rent her a room.
Despite that bonehead answer, we married in 1996 and now have two beautiful children. I could not be happier and most days, she feels the same way. That's my (our) story and I'm sticking to it.0 -

Very cool story. I drove eight hours to make my first date with my wife, so I understand. [:D]0 -

A woman that I knew casually was in a 12 step program for sex addiction. She fixed me up with a gal she met at a meeting. I convinced the lady that she really didn't have a problem and have been busy for almost 3 years now. 0 -
I've known my right hand all my life![;)][:o)][:I][:D][:p][:0][B)] 0 -
I picked up a catalog and ordered her from Russia. [:D]
The real story is that my girlfriend and I worked for the same company during the summer, between my freshman and sophomore year of college, in different buildings but on the same property and I would go over to see my boss or do something else and I would always make small talk with her. In early July 2004 she mentioned something about July 4th and fireworks and I suggested that she go with my friends and I to watch fireworks and then hang out afterwords. Well we hooked up on July 3rd and it has been fireworks ever since. It has been 31 months of pure enjoyment. I am currently saving/shopping for "the" ring. [:D] We made it through 2 years of long distance while we were both in school. She is 2.5 years older than me and has been out of school waiting patiently on me to graduate and get a job. I can't even begin to verbalize how much she means to me. [:D]0 -
Met mine at a sex addicts meeting group.
It cured our addiction!

I hope she says "Yes." Great story!0 -
I was flirting with her one night at a bar...woke up the next morning and she was lying next to me. She hasn't left since. She's been sleeping there for 8 years now...maybe I should wake her up sometime.[:D] 0 -
Duh... She was the last one there at closing time... 0 -

Yeah, when they get that way, I like to poke them with a stick to make sure they're still alive.0 -

She knows it is coming but doesn't know how/when/where. But nor do I for that matter.0
