Armageddon - Ragnarock - SHTF...

There is a lot of discussion on GB about a coming National disaster or apocalypse. I have seen on TV predictions of the end of the world in December of 2012.

Can any of you help me out with these concepts, and tell me your thoughts??

Religious and/or secular comments would be welcome.

I am trying to form some conclusions for myself and would appreciate your help.

    I'm afraid the common sentiment toward the future and whatever it may hold, is rooted more in fear, wishes and desire, than in scripture and faith. And the easiest thing to do, for those who aren't really sure where we stand, is to ridicule....of course, it's mighty easy to be brave, even arrogant, from a safe distance.

    But the scripture informs us there will be those who scoff, and say, "Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.'

    'For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:'

    'Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:'

    'But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.'

    'But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.'

    'The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.'

    'But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.'

    'Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness." 2 Peter 3:4-11

    I understand reluctance to believe the bible. But until a man disregards the scriptural law of life and death so sufficient as to never die, that is, to live forever, we've got to admit we are, each and every one of us, going to die, and that it just may be, that something will happen thereafter.

    Ya know Eric, sometimes the stuff people worry about amazes me. IF you knew the world would end tomorrow, exactly what would you do differently?
    If you would do something differently, why? Should not people live their lives in a way that if you dropped dead tomorrow, you could look down and say "I had a wonderful meal, a delicious cup of coffee, and told my family and friends that I loved them". "I left no dog unpetted, no job unfinished, and no harsh words to regret".

    Individually, there's not much we can do to stop the end of the world, but individually there is a hell of a lot we can do to make the world a nice place until it happens. Live EVERY day like it is your last, for one day, it will be.

    I'm making spegettii right now for my girlfriend/wife who had to work today and am home alone to reflect on life. I thank the Fates for what life has given me and have much, much to be thankful for. I can see and still somewhat hear. I have full use of my arms and legs. I'm only out of my mind on occasion. I use to be in such a rush and everything had to be letter perfect. It took a heart attack and five bypasses to make me see the err of my ways. Living on borrowed time makes me realize that I was missing and taking for granted the simple pleasures of life.

    If the world ends tomorrow, I don't give a damn really because I've learned to live and love life and that's what it's all about.

    I have no doubt that we are in the final days but I believe we will see things get much much worse before the final day. While it maybe true that the final outcome cant be changed I do believe it is our duty to resist our enemies to the best of our abilities. I also believe that there will come a time when being a Christian will be a crime punishable by death before the final day. As far as the rapture, I dont think there will be one and it is not mentioned in the Bible either.

    I believe in an afterlife, but an interesting contradiction to being a Christian is the realization that one of the cornerstones of my faith is the inability of humans to be right about much of anything. To suggest otherwise is to hint that maybe Christ didn't need to bother with the whole crucifixion unpleasantness -- that we might have worked out the bugs in our behavior to God's satisfaction, on our own. So.... I could be wrong. This does not cause me to lie awake nights in wide-eyed terror or confusion -- it is just, as I say, an interesting contradiction. Faith smooths out a lot of the rough spots created by my own thinking.

    A common theme in most of the posts is living decently, and, though I didn't see it actually written, with dignity. I am not referring to the concept of "good works", as in bribing one's way into Heaven with money and good deeds -- only to living as much by the Golden Rule as we can, with some idea of leaving the world a somewhat better place than it was when we arrived. No way of knowing, really, if we pull it off, but it's the trying that makes the difference. Even an atheist ought to have no trouble with that, more so because an atheist believes this world is, actually, all there is. Why not try to make it better? And if it turns out that's the way it is -- when the light goes out, our part in the game is now and forever finished -- no harm will have been done by our trying to live well.

    In the event the ones who eagerly await the judgements and punishments of those they consider to be sinners are right, I stand by all I just said. Their vision of Heaven gives me so little to look forward to, Hell would be pretty much unnecessary.

    Since the "rapture" is a non-Biblical event dreamed up by some clergy at a sick woman's bedside, you may as well forget about getting to escape the hard times ahead.

    Also, if you believe in the Christian Bible, there is no "end of the world," and such is not mentioned in the Bible. The "end of time" is mentioned, however. Since God and His minions exist in a dimension to which time does not apply, this can only mean that we will also exist in a non-physical timeless dimension, probably in our spirit bodies, since a "gathering unto Christ" is mentioned to occur at the seventh and final trump of the tribulation era. (This, incidentally, is what the "rapturists" like to refer to. They do conveniently gloss over the fact that it will occur at the final trump - the time at which Christ will return to vanquish the beast who arrived earlier at the sixth trump, not beforehand.)
