Hebrew code does, too (yeah, I saw the same show this morning on the History Channel).

    Supposed to be an asteroid....

Don't know, don't care. Fear of death doesn't arouse fear of hell enough in me to want to suddenly adopt anything or anyone as my personal savior. Buddhists believe we all navigate hell, and it is how we navigate it that determines our next stop.

    Thanks everyone.

    I am not (particularly) depressed.

I'm just trying to form some thoughts in my jellied brain.

As Mark said - I'm just thinkin' again.

    A notable event.

    Please continue with your help.

The end is not near, but a steady decline in civility and an increase in crime, will continue as the average real income level drops due to a variety of reasons.

There is no expiration date on the world. Just live a good life until it's your time to leave this place.

I believe the Mayas did not sure of the Aztecs. There is also evidence in ancient times that the world would end in 2012, i want to say somewhere in the middle east, i think the ancient Egyptians

The bush family believe in tribulations, and belive the rapture will occur in 2018, and they are helping it along every chance they get.

I think the December 2012 thing is supposed to signal the end of this world 'age' or epoch, not this world or planet in and of itself.

My understanding of scripture (Christian scripture that is), is that lawlessness, wars, famines, natural disasters, and very likely the ending of world ages, will preface the end. But those things have gone on for centuries and more....I'm more concerned about things coming from the sky. For much of what appears to be highly symbolic in Revelation, regarding future destruction from the sky, can happen and never break a single one of the laws of physics. Its interesting that while destruction is said to come from the sky in scripture, it is also from the sky that Christians look for the return of the Lord, and deliverance.

I'm certain, in my own mind of just a couple of things. That the world, as a planet, will one day become uninhabitable, and then, will be destroyed is one of them, but you might be talking millions of years in the future.

And that every one of us is going to die at some point and in some way. (To the one who says, "Nope, not me. I'm going to be raptured out of here just before the tribulation", I remind you that being raptured is characterized as being a 'change quicker than the blink of an eye', but its still dying, for "Flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God", and if you're going to heaven, you're going to die, one way or the other.)

And finally, I'm convinced there will be a judgment, followed by an eternity, where time is no longer. And what happens to stars, planets and so forth, will be of little importance to those in eternity.

So, I'm not tooling around, getting ready for the end of the world, or even the end of the world age....I'm just getting ready to die.

Doug, other than some of the "theories" presented above,......I know nothing else, as I don't worry about the end of the world.
This has been predicted umpteen times before, and nothing has ever happened.
Undoubtedly, one time, it WILL be correct.
If one is Christian, remember the passage that says "no man shall know the day, nor the hour".
DO NOT quote me, as I don't remember the exact phrasing, or wording!
The point is the same, and that is how I deal with the never ending predictions of the "end"![;)]

I believe our bodies will be transformed into our new heavenly bodies and I do not believe those who experience the rapture will experience death. The Word is actually pretty specific about this. It says that not all will sleep (or die). Read 1 Cor 15:51-58

"Listen, I will tell you a mystery: we will not all sleep, but we will be changed-in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality..."

    There are other referrences...

    Doug,

there is not an adequate way ,for me, to put forth my views on "the end time" to sufficiently relay the conlgomeration of thoughts stuck swirling in my head (kind of reminicent of watching the toilet flush but without it going down or overflowing) nor the emotions that i feel pondering just such a topic.

Many people belive that there are several factors that if combined could create the perfect storm for civil unrest.

pick 1 from colume a and 1 from colume b.

power outage due to cold snap, or other natural disaster.
    colapse of stock market
    colapse of the dollar
    terror attack
    fuel delivery disruption
the bush admin's attack on civil liberties/hilery's if she wins.
too many to anticipate or list

combine two or three of these + the fact that few people have supplies for more than two days, and the stores only have supplies for two days, we could see civil unrest in a major way.

There have been "doomsdayers" since the beginning of time...Even Jesus predicted that it would happen before some of the people he was talking to died and that was over 2000 years ago and it aint happened yet.... There will always be doomsdayers

Look, Sig, not to be insulting or anything, but your "little friend" has wings - couldn't you just have her fly over to my place, and I'll catch up with YOU later on ??

I am learning from the things I am being told, and appreciate the views of those who are treating my inquiry seriously.

    The others, too.

Is thinking compatible with knowing in the absence of discipline...as in teacher and/or drill instructor?

Nobody knows when the end will come. There is alot of speculation according to the bible and the signs of the times. I personally beleive in God. Beleiving that he has been there since the begining of time our lives must not be more then a blink of a eye to God time wise.

The whole thing about the end of the world is based on the bible. If it wasn't why would you think this world would come to a end? People that do not beleive probally think this world will evolve and evolve and there will be no specific end. Maybe only a end of mankind due to us killing ourselves.

Personally I just keep water, food, and ammo stocked and try to live the best most sincere level headed life I can. I beleive a person should never stop growing mentally, morally, ect.

I feel I should really study more on the subject on all angles. There is just so much information to try and absorb in this world!

I am of the humble opinion that most of those predicting a specific end to the world have been, throughout history, either unhappy with their personal circumstances or disgusted with the world in general. I base this opinion on having observed people around me and read the comments of doomsayers, past and present. Most expectation of the impending "end of the world" amounts to one form or another of depression, or a degree of wishful thinking (look at how much of the discussion about the End Time contains mention of the vast number of people who are going to be punished, in one form or another). That's my opinion and I offer it only because of a request to do so -- I expect and will not be disappointed or angry that there are those who disagree.

FWIW, the world has been going to Hell in a handbasket pretty much from Day One -- if you choose to see it so. Christian "authorities" were predicting the end of the world when the vikings were ripping up Europe and the Near East (not coincidentally, the coming of the year 1000 was greeted as the imminent End Time by many of these people, whose descendents 1000 years later had apparently not used the ensuing millenium to get into a better frame of mind). Persons with a bleak view of the world in general, and religious issues specifically, probably believed the world would never survive the Wars Of Religion and the Thirty Years War that transformed large tracts of Europe into howling wastelands. Yet -- at the same time, Shakespeare was writing, an entire new world (from the standpoint of European awareness) was being discovered and colonized (a process which to some already here probably seemed the End Of The World), science was taking huge steps out of the realm of superstition, and medicine actually, occasionally, was beginning to cure as many people as it killed. And people the world over put their heads down, plowed their fields, married, made babies, and dared to hope for something better tomorrow, in spite of all those who swore tomorrow wasn't coming. Doubtless many of them were called "sheep" or worse by those who believed that there had ceased to be any point in hoping or trying to simply lead a decent life.

History, ancient and modern, is filled with darkness, but the human race in general has managed to summon sufficient reason, faith, hope, or simple stupid stubbornness, if you will, to keep going. It's worth remembering that most people are too busy living -- even if it means nothing more than simply surviving -- to ponder these issues that seem to keep religious, cultural, and/or political doomsayers in a degree of uproar and anticipation that at times is almost comical.

Almost, hell. It is comical, though quite often in a very dark and tragic sense.

I live in the certainty that, one day, I will die, and in the belief that when that happens I will be judged for not only the actions I took in life, but my motives for those actions. I try to be decent to others, in spite of the fact that I don't completely trust most people (if any) and have been made to look like a fool by the indecency of some of them. I don't waste time -- much, anyhow -- on hatred or despair. I keep loaded guns in my home but have absolutely no desire for a state of the world in which using them against other human beings becomes a necessity. I try to stay involved in a political process that at times, more and more often, resembles a three-ring circus performed by lunatics, whose actions unfortunately bear on the welfare and happiness of the sane majority of their audience, because I persist in the notion that this is the finest country on earth and that to reject and abandon the whole shebang on account of some very bad things going on is to reject and abandon all that is still good, here -- and the sacrifices of many people who believed something roughly the same.
