It depends on how the dog is raised. Its not ALL of them, my cousin Katie's pitbull, Ruby i think is its name, is a WONDERFUL dog.

It depends what environment their around.

Thats like people saying ALL cats are evil.

    Jade isnt [:D][:D]

Good... I hope he was the idiot that threw my brand new Dell computer out of the truck and on to the pavement... UPS drivers, At least the ones around here should be lined up on the wall and shot!!! I figure the dog probably knew this they are very instinctive you know!!!

Might as well blame guns for killing people.

Which breed exactly? "Pit Bull" is not a breed, it's a term, that's applied to many breeds, including Staffordshire terrier, Boxer, American Bulldog, and many more. So which one do you want to exterminate, genius?

Seven rounds of .32 caliber Cor-Bons to the head from the Kel-Tec that stays in my front pocket would deter that.

I'm not so sure the breed should be exterminated, but I do see what Zulu is saying. I personally will never own a pitbull because I plan on having kids in the future and I don't want one around them. With animals you must remember that instinct is instinct, no matter how nice the dog is. I would prefer something like a beagle personally because they are very friendly and still have a lot of spunk and fight in them. Just my feelings on the issue though and to each his own I guess.

Insurance companies list chows and st. bernards higher risk than pits. its the owners.

I agree too. The breed should be exterminated by forced sterilization of all known animals. It was bread to fight, nothing more. It is not the owner. Or at least, it is the owner making sure the dog stays locked up. If it gets out, 90% of them will attack kids, adults, other dogs, etc. A gun is not going to jump off the shelf and attack you.

Perhaps, but I wonder if the guy whose arm is cracking and splintering gives it
    much thought?

If I see one running around loose on my place its a dead dog. I'm not going to wait and see if it was treated nicely as a pup or not.

Yes, wild.. rotowilers, pit alligator, are somewhat extinct in my woods now. Nothing like getting attacked by three of them one day in the back yard. Too bad my shotgun was within reach. Kuboto tractors make good burial units..

I agree with the Russian. The Term "pit" in this case means only that the animal was bred down in size so as to be able function better in an enclosed space. (the pit) Blood sports are quite respectable in other countries (and may be become popular here again with the "cultural" outlook of "those who slay cattle for sport" becoming a major factor in our population!)
One should be aware of the characteristics of whatever breed you are considering before buying it! Certain breeds are "protective" of their "pack" and can be quite aggressive toward an "outsider" that they consider a danger to any member of it! This is not only a "pitbull" characteristic but may be a member of any breed. (also stops some parents from beating on a child)

jon. You mentioned Beagles as a good friendly breed. I have raised the little hounds for years and consider them wasted as a pet only dog and not hunters! One time observing a Beagle hound on a hot track and you will see that's what God intended for them to do to do!. They will "play" with a child all day no matter rough the child wants to get. However I have had a couple of dogs returned because the people were frightened of the realistic snarls and growls that the beasties will let go with when enjoying themselves thoroughly. Also had to rescue one from the pound because the neighbor kid had his britches torn and his leg scratched while rolling around with the owners kid and the dog.(They were threating to sue and the owner agreed to take the dog to the pound to keep from going to court)So even Beagles can get you in trouble. I've got an old dog right now that will snarl and snap within a fraction of an inch of anyone that bothers him. Never made contact yet! But he gets his point across. Understanding this I keep the grandkids from bothering him. (Don't want them to grow up scared of dogs)
Oh Beagles have the hound characteristic of thinking they are starving to death and telekensis to make food drop out of your hand to the floor! Don't overfeed em! (it shortens their lives)
They have a high probability of being stolen too.

I stand behind my claim that the Chihuahua is the most vicious breed!

99% of the time, its the owner, not the dog, no matter the breed...

    That other 1%.....

In this case, lets exterminate lions, tigers, and bears too. Heck lets kill all of the dangerous animals, it's in their blood, they were bred that way.

If Americans worried about Aids as much as they did pit bulls, 100,000 fewer people would die this year. But no it's drop them drawers and worry about the dog...

Why not just sue the owner for $2,000,000 and let HIM decide what to do with the dog...

That'd be a good idea - probably pay for a lot of burial costs around the country.

Wrong!! I had a staffordshire and it lived to be 15 years old. One of the best dogs for my children I ever owned. Nothing would dare try and harm them. Only problem was any other animals were precieved as a threat and it would injure them. He warned strangers and that was enough. It never killed any animals that I know of. It is what you make of them from a pup. I have been bit by several dogs in my lifetime and none were by a pitbull type.

I personally think chows are far more nastier then pit bulls. I'm with mini truck on thinking that Chihuahuas are the nastiest dogs alive.

If Chihuahua's weighed over 50lbs, they would be considered a deadly weapon and banned from this planet. Same goes for Min Pins...[:D]

Im with Kodiakk on the Chows.Chows will turn on their owners in a heart beat.Last thing I read it said that Cocker Spaniels were responsible for more dog bites than any other dog breed in the U.S.A.It has nothing to do with the breed what so ever.I have had either American Bulldogs or American Pitbull Terriers my whole life.I have never had a mean or out of control pitbull or bulldog, never had any show any aggression towards myself or any member of my family and would guard what was ours like any other breed of dog.Pitbulls are actually very intelligent, driven, loyal, caring dogs until they have an owner that wants to make them into a mean dog that bites without hesitation. The only reason that Pitbulls get looked at the way they do is because when they do bite they cause enough damage to make a note of it but it has everything to do with how that dog is raised.Chows are vicious,Ive seen Vicious Dobermans,German Shepards,Presa Canario's which are responsible for attacking and killing a woman by the way,Ive seen Vicious Lab's.Its all int the owner not the animal.Any dog is capable of vicious activity and all dogs have bitten and alot of the numbers on how many dogs that we love to death and feel completely safe around are biting people on very large scales,so much so that pitbulls and bulldogs pale in comparison.People need to open their eyes PitBulls are not bad animals by nature they are made that way. They are loyal, muscle bound and look intimidatibg and irresponsible HUMANS make them fight to the death and the dog gets the bad rap for wanting to please his master.Pitbulls should definately not be exterminated thats a rediculous comment.I have been bitten by 2 dogs my entire life one was a Chow and the other a German Shepard and I did nothing to either to provoke them other than walk passed one and move to fast past the other.

Like many have said----it ain't the breed----it's the dog and how it was raised.

Here's a real "bad" well-known Pit Bull named Daddy. Used by Cesar Milan (The Dog Whisperer) to rehabilitate other dogs.
