I like dachshunds, and I don't think I'll ever own another breed of dog. They're smart, playful, and when they get sick of someone they walk away. Plus, if it's a full size, they have a nasty bark and growl you'll never know what's behind that closed door unless you open it.

That all holds true if it's a full size long hair. If it's a mini short hair, like my Maggot, they just look like they've been beaten.

Petey on "Our Gang" was a pitbull. So was Tag in Buster Brown shoes. Petey was the downfall of "Our Gang" because he eventually killed every kid on the set. Tag bit off the feet of eery kid that put on Buster Brown shoes. These facts are facts! Look them up!!

I currently own 13 pitbulls. I have owned pits for over 15 yrs. As with any breed, SELECTIVE BREEDING is the key. Of course you're gonna have a bad apple in the bunch. Happens with any breed of dog. Respectable, reputable breeders know that "man biters" are not accepted by this breeds standards. When producing litters, culling is a must.

Also, the dogs lineage plays a big role. Pitbulls vary more than any other breed of dog I know. They weigh anywhere from 20 lbs to 130 lbs. Different bloodlines have different characteristics. You must do your homework, to achieve what you are looking for.

Dog fighting unfortunately is a reality, but you cannot blame everyone who owns a pit for the action of these irresponsible people. (example: Michael Vick)

Yes, pitbulls were originally bred as gladiator dogs. But since the Animal Welfare Act of 1976, this "sport" is illegal in the U.S. Since then responsible owners have redirected these dogs "prey drive" into more positive results. Hog hunting, weight pulling competetions, narcotics dogs, search & rescue, ect.

In all my years of owning this wonderful breed not once have I, my wife, or my children been bit. I am these dogs master and they know that. I take control of my dogs and I've been very successful. This breed is not for everyone. They require a lot of TLC and you will get it in return.

The media thrives on negativity in every aspect. You rarely see anything positive on the news anymore.

I respect everyone's opinions. I just love my dogs like they are family, and defend them every chance I get.

Why so many? Unless there are two big litters of pups yet to find homes in this number, I ask why?

Only people I know with that many pits are either fighting them or selling dope, or both.

    Nunn,

I live about 3 hrs south of you. You are welcome to come down and check me out anytime. No dog fighting or dope selling here.

These dogs are my passion and hobby. I have a special relationship with each one of them. I compete in weight pulling competetions. This is split into different weight classes. I have dogs of different sizes in order to compete in several weight classes. I also hog hunt and use some dogs as "catch dogs". Different dogs for different purposes.

People are so quick to jump to conclusions. Not everybody with a pitbull is a gangbanger or dope dealer.

Also, my kennel is registered with the ADBA. (American Dog Breeders Association)

Don't most registered dog kennels keep more than 2 or 3 dogs? Regardless of the breed?

Pretty well sums it up around here. Just the mention of a Pit Bull will get some trigger fingers ready. I am glad you enjoy your dogs. I am also glad you are a good ways away from me with them.

You're right. But the vast majority are, and that's one reason why I won't own one.

There are certain firearms that I won't own for the same reason.

Nunn, where do you get your statistics at? The vast majority of people who own pitbulls are dope dealers?? What?? That's just asinine. I'm sure somehow you've become misled.

NO, I dont hate cops. I am a Firefighter and I work along with them all of the time. What I meant by that is most of the people he comes in contact with who have "pit bulls" are not the best our society has to offer. And I believe because of the scumbags he may deal with on a day to day basis, these dogs that a lot of them own are guilty by association.

I know what you meant, Raupleminze, it's just there's a trend that if you say ANYTHING that by some very insecure individuals can be percieved as negative towards law enforcement types on this board, you're branded a cop-hater-split-personality-Bondai-etc. But that's besides the subject and probably shouldn't be talked about. It's a taboo here.

    Hes a cop...........
That makes him the authority on everything, now doesn't it.

BTW- no offense to the officer.[:D]
Just saying just cause (insert whoever here) says it does not make it so.

The two mean adult Danes I bought, and spoke of earlier. I did a little research on them, and it turns out they came from a kennel in mehico.."Dober Danes of Azmiroth" or sumsuch. The male actually looked more like a mastiff, and the female, although fawn Dane colored looked like a Dobie..and had the attitude to match. The male was funny, he was ok with most people and would let most anyone pet him, but got aggresive when they quit petting.

Several years back the breed to hate was dalmations. It seems that several kids were getting bit by those. My mil has a pitbull and you couldn't ask for a friendlier dog.

My most favorite old Dane was the most sociable dog on earth, but pity the fool that threatened me or mine.

Once, years ago I turned down a good deal on a Zambizi River crocodile.

.....couldn't determine if it was raised in a loving, caring enviornment.

The facts remain,..the Pitt bulls around here,...are inbred and worthy of nothing more than a bullet. unfortantely,...the low class see's them as a status symbol, and I have to deal with their trash. My kids won't be around one,..and one will NOT be on my property. If you love your pitt bull, YOU WILL keep them on a leash of in a fence. I have been exposed to and freinds with everything from a Rotty, to a Dobby, to an Akita, and so on and so forth,..the only dog that I have seen with that crazy look in it's eyes, is a pitt bull.

    I won't find out the hard way,....in my yard,.....done deal[}:)]

I just know what I see. I don't claim to be an "authority."

I wouldn't own a pit bull any more than I would own a Cadillac Escalade, or a set of 22" wheels with spinners, or a Hi-Point pistol, and for the same reason.

  • GWPMan
Nunn, I wouldn't own an Escalade because I'm single and they're gas hogs. I wouldn't own 22" rims with spinners because they look stupid. Cheap guns aren't my bag either. Not dependable. You never came across a doper with a Sig or Glock? Incidently, I would hazard a guess most male druggies like women. What's your stand on that? I live in a town of about 80,000, 50 miles west of Philly. About 10 years ago pitbull bites were rampant in my city. It was common to see young minority males walking with pitbulls on the streets. Sometimes with no leash. The city enacted a law making them have $500 licenses and they must be muzzled and have a chain leash in public. Bites dropped drasticly. The riff-raff got rid of the dogs and only the real dog owners kept them. Proof it's not the fault of the dog breed. More the fault of the people breed.

Not a good analogy. Maybe male drug dealers do like women, but so do Republicans, ministers, cops, firefighters, soldiers, etc.

We all breathe air and eat food, too.

    Sounds similar to my theory.
Go on a buying spree, like corvette(s), tractors, guns (full auto), houses, land.... you must be a drug dealer.[:D]
