Need Your Opinion, What Would You Do ??
A friend of mine has a dilemma and it has got me to wondering what I would do or how I would react. Here is the scenario...
My friend, a male, is married to his wife and they have 3 kids. Two sons aged 8 and 13 and a daughter aged 4.
The wife has a brother who is 33yrs old and gay. He lives in Florida and is an avid boater/sailer. According to my friend he is VERY liberal and works for many groups that promote homosexuality. My friend says that he has never liked him but for the sake of his wife he has bit his tongue and done his best to just get along. His wife LOVES her brother and thinks he is just perfect.
Now...last week the brother asked my friend if it would be okay for the eldest son , 13 yrs old, to visit Florida over Thanksgiving holiday and take a 4 day sailing trip to the Bahamas with him and his "partner".
The brother belongs to this semi formal group of all gay boaters who take trips in groups of other gay couples. Some of them have kids some do not.
Basically the son would be alone with all gay males sailing for 4 days on a sail boat in the Bahamas.
Anyone here who has spent time on private boats know they are small and very intimate and not much privacy.
My friend, the husband, is DEAD set against allowing his son to go on the trip. However, he is DEADLY afraid to tell his wife that since she is so enamoured with her brother. He feels the decision might even be serious enough that she would divorce him.
So it got me to thinking, would you allow your 13 yr old son to go sailing in the Bahamas with your brother in law, his gay lover and a group of all gay men ?
When I was younger I used to take trips with my aunt and uncles all the time. However, I see this as a different situtation.
What are your thoughts ?

HELL NO! 0 -
Not no but hell no and if my wife complained I'd leave and take the kids with me. 0 -
okay. can you explain a little more though ? is it because you would be afraid the the brother in law or his friends molesting your child ? i think that is a natural fear.
however, are you saying then that you would NEVER let your brother in law be alone with your kids ? are there situations where you would allow him to be alone with your kids ?
my friend is TERRIFIED because he thinks his wife is going to flip out when he says no. according to him she thinks its no different than letting your child play at your aunt and uncles house.0 -
Just because he is gay does not mean he is a pedophile but, NO anyway! 0 -
No, I don't think its worth taking the risk![:0] 0 -

Ditto!!!!0 -
Could this possibly mirror the Ducks, Devils, and Slaves scenario? 0 -
okay, so what would you guys do if your wife said your kids couldnt be with YOUR brother or sister ? 0 -
Absolutely no.
No problem.0 -
No,
Especially if it were with a group, those tend to be "adult" orientated.

No Way
Never feed the sicko's, furthermore the damage to the boy would be devastating [xx(]0 -
No way,......Jose'![}:)]
And if she didn't like it,.......I would say file the papers!0 -
so far its 7 - 0 in favor of NO, lol 0 -
No. Not because of fear of molestation or inappropriate behavior, but because it is a lifestyle we do not condone or approve of. Simple as that.
If they were all convicted felons now out of jail, the answer would be no.
If they were all die-hard PETA members, the answer would be no.
If they were all Nazis the answer would be no.
If they were all Socialists the answer would be no.
If they were all KKK members the answer would be no.
If they were all Hooters girls the answer would be "I'm going too."0 -
Absolutely not! 0 -
okay...so for all of you who said no, here is the next question....do you have kids and do you let them hang out with your heterosexual brother or sister in laws ? 0 -

No. My sister and her husband are crazy left-wing liberals. My kids are only exposed to them with both me and my wife there.0 -
What is your agenda Mr. Barkingdog ? 0 -
Even I would say no.
Maybe your friend could could agree to a day trip but not 4 days.0 -
I wouldn't let my child go on a sailboat to the Bahama's with anybody. Wouldn't matter if the adult was gay, hetero, a minister, or a retired Navy captain. Maybe I'm over protective but that's the I am.
Not to mention that I don't think a 13 year old should be exposed to that kind of lifestyle which I'm sure will be flaunted during those four days.0 -

and here i thought you had shot something and was asking us what you should do with it, I would suggest that you eat it.
Seriously
I would not let him Go, As parents it is their responsibility, there is not time or place in which it chould be acceptible to either one of them to place their kid in that kinda sittuation. If one of them want to go with fine. Your friend should speak his mind he is obligated to do so as a parent. not saying anything would be the worse thing that he can do.0 -

Not if they are in an entirely different, (and inappropriate) age group and show the propensity for immoral behavior the homosexual community does. Adults should hang with adults and kids with kids.0 -

Good answer.lj..ask the wife whats more important..your gay brother or the well being of our son..that ought to settle it..if she is so shallow as to leave him over this..he ought to be thinkin about plan b anyhow..[;)]..Loko0 -
Would they let the boys go if they were a lesbian couple with lesbian friends?
Let's get right to the matter, is it that he is gay, gay and male, or militant gay? "Promote homosexuality," what does this mean?
Unless the 13 year old has "gender confusion issues," and your friend is worried that exposure to a "gay lifestyle" might pull him over to the "dark side," or if he has fears that gay's actively recruite, at which point I can assure you they don't.
Not every gay is a "flaming" homo. Most of them look just like you and me.0 -
Your friend brought this problem w/his wife onto himself.
He should've accepted his BIL for who he is a long time ago.
Had he done that, then he could easily say NO to the trip and blame it on the hazards of boating (Bermuda Triangle, pirates, smugglers, wheather, etc.) and not on gayness. I'm sure his wife would agree.0 -
Plan a trip during the same time for the whole family. 0
