From an earlier question: Drugs were not federally controlled (any drug) prior to the enactment of the Pure Food And Drug Act. About 1912, or so. Google for more details. Best, Joe

I don't like regulations more than anyone else. Unfortunitly, there will
always be a goodly number of folks out there ruining things for the
rest of us. I have never been arrested, never had a traffic ticket - only
a few parking tickets. I've never burglarized, defrauded, raped, been
disorderly, held up anybody, etc., etc.

However, looks to me that there continue to be a LOT of folks who do.

Too bad, in my perfect world there would be no need for LEOs, prisons,
    traffic ticket clerks, etc.

... instead we have too many laws ... piling more up every year.

... and I've only missed voting in a few local elections since 1966.

When I step up to ole St. Peter, I'll be able to truthfully say I did my part
of being a logical human being. It's the rest of you that are responsible
for all this regulated mess we live in!

My stance on under age drinking is that it absolutely shouldn't be done. I personally don't think any Bourbon Whiskey should be sold before it's at least 8 years old. Trying to cut corners and under aging it just don't get it.

"... as far as drinking, old enough to fight, old enough to drink, vote, and anything else you care to do. as long as you are serving our country. if not in service 21."
    - can't figger out who posted it

As a Country, we should, at least, make the laws consistent.

Jacob2008, what does driving have to do with drinking, if youre drinking you should NOT be driving, so experience has nothing to do with any of this, the responsibility issue, im sure you are 100 percent correct, as soon as you turn 21 you become exponentially more responsible

And one youre 18 you are thought of as mature enough to do almost anything such as many others have previously stated, fight, kill, and die for your country, vote to who leads our country, raise a family...yeah youre probably right, maybe we should change all of those thing to age 21

quote:If your sitting at home, having a beer there is a difference, but if its like, going out to the bar, parties, and stuff like that, 21.
I see.... so its ok to drive to a party or bar, drink, and drive home then, as long as you are over 21?
Being 21 suddenly makes it impossible to be a drunk driver?
I drank throughout my time in college, and I was underage for 3 and a half years out of my 4 years in college.
The laws didn't have any effect on drinking, and no harm came of it.
I can see no reason why military service should be tied to the legal status of ethanol consumption.

Pot, tobacco, alcohol, should all be regulated the same way, and they should all be legally available to a legal adult - age 18.

When I was twenty my best friend the same age, was married, had a kid and house. He worked two jobs non stop to support his family. On a rare occasion he may have had a Sunday afternoon off. If anyone deserved a beer it was this guy, and occasionally we had a few beers watching the game at his house. My views are the same today as they were when I was twenty. We need to stop criminalizing young adults. The drinking age defiantly needs to be lowered.
