I believe in the "Grotto Sprinkle" administered by The Playmate of the Month and supervised by Hugh Hefner.

It matters, believe me, it matters...

All work well, it is not the word spoken or the way that the water is administered, it is the turning of the heart of the one being baptized that truly matters.

To baptize means to immerse. Sprinkling is symbolic of baptism, but it isn't baptism. IMNSHO, baptism is an act of obedience for a believer; it is not necessary for salvation.

I think only those that are old enough should do it, of their own free will, as a demonstration of desire to be a "new person", living in a new faith. The manner in which it is performed is of no importance. Nor is it a necessary task for salvation.

Father-Son-Holy Spirit for water baptism, and then there is the baptism of The Holy Spirit which first happened the day of Pentecost to the apostles, and has been happening to Christians ever since.

Submersion; reason being it is symbolic of death, burial, and resurrection.(Gal. 2:20) It is an outward sign of an inward change.

I'll say it with words....and not give copious amounts of scripture to back the words up.

Unless you ask. So here it is.

You may inherit eternal life without being baptized.

You must be baptized in order to be saved.

There are no rivers here to baptise in. At my church we do full emersion baptism. There is a large fountain in the middle of the main court yard that we use. There are steps that lead into the fountain and the water is heated so it is comfortable. But just because we do full emersion it does not mean that a person who is sprikled has not been baptised. In the same light just because somebody is compleatly dunked it does not mean that there heart was changed, that is up to the person and not up to the water.

If I understand your question, yes we baptize by submersion as Christ was in the Jordan.

The last time we baptised at the river, the chemicals from the Union Carbide plant gave some of our glorified souls toxic shock.

At least they are in heaven now...

IF you wish to baptize in a scriptural fashion, you'll immerse, and you'll do it in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

Two scriptures if I might...."Therefore we ARE BURIED with him by baptism into his death: that like as Christ was RAISED from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.'

'For if we have been PLANTED together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection". Romans 6: 4-5

There's no way sprinkling or other some such pseudo-baptism can be said to cause one to be BURIED, and to then be RAISED, since the immersion is an act of being PLANTED. Baptism, by the very biblical definition of the word is immersion (and whole lot more).

Jesus said, "And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?" Luke 6:46. And what is one of the many things He says, "....baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe ALL THINGS whatsoever I have commanded you...." Matthew 28:19b-20a

If you don't care to be biblical and do it as the Lord has said, then the sky is the limit and anything goes.

Problem is, God might care how we do it. It would seem so from the scriptures.

    +1

Full immersion...in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit...and it's merely a declaration of our faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior. It plays no part in Salvation.

    Hey ECC;

"I was Baptized in a river..."

Gives a real sense to that 'sins washed away' thing, doesn't it?

    Sahagan,

Do you also practice communion? If so, do you also wash feet as commanded? Just curious. I often wonder why this practice is overlooked by so many... especially Baptists.

If you already knew the correct answer, why did you ask the question?

I don't know who you picked as the other correct answer, but nunn gave you the first correct answer.

If you're a Christian being baptized is a good thing and you should do it. It is not required for salvation. If you're not a Christian, it doesn't matter very much.

Show me the passage in Scripture where it says that Jesus was immersed. It ain't there. But it doesn't matter. Our church baptizes by pouring, symbolizing the "out pouring" of the Holy Spirit on the person when they are saved. But if you come over from the Church of Christ or from a Baptist church, we accept your baptism, whatever the mode in which it was administered.

It's not specifically stated because the very word baptize states it. The words baptize and submerge are synonymous.

From the Strong's concordance: 907 in the Greek. Baptizo dirv. of 911 in Greek bapto A primary verb, To overwhelm; i.e. cover wholly with water, to immerse.

"In your bible" like I wrote my own? We do it because Christ did it. It is a very humbling and uplifting experience. believe me, I tried to get out of it the first time.
