Woman Murdered In Winnsboro
Wood County detectives are continuing their investigation into the death of 19 year old Brittany McGlone, who was found murdered at a residence in Winnsboro. Investigators say her death was the result of massive head injuries. Officers say she didn't live at the residence where she was found but knew her attacker. Anyone with information about McGlone's death should contact the Wood County Sheriff's office.
This happened this past Friday (during the day) at Winnsboro, Texas.
The wife and I had gone to visit her Dad last Thursday (he lives on Lake Winnsboro) and his home is "next door" to the residence where she was murdered. We were all at home and didn't see or hear anything. The boyfriend had gone to Dallas that morning with his Dad to pickup his grandmother. The boyfriend lives there with his Dad and mother. The detectives questioned him all night Friday night and released him Saturday morning.
I haven't heard of any updates since we left Sunday to return home.

I requested the assistance of the Texas Rangers. It seems that request must come from Wood County. I, as a taxpayer, law abiding citizen and survivor of a victim of a horribly violent crime, cannot ask DPS to do their job.
Any suggestions/advice?

Brittany McGlone's murderer is still unknown. A lot of people want to see this changed, even if it means using outside help to do so. Texas Ranger ect. The family has made it clear that they will never give up until they have this person behind bars... I now add my name to the list of very concerned people that want to see some closure for Brittany's family and friends.

I was very shocked that the Rangers cannot assist at the request of a survivor.
I am fumbling around in the dark here, not sure where to turn.
My mom always said I was born without fear. I was never scared to be by myself, go anywhere I wanted or attempt any adventure. Now I feel like I am cowering in a corner, terrified of everyone and everything. This killer has nothing to lose.
I live with my 2 teenage sons and blind, elderly mother. I feel like I cannot protect myself much less them.
Please lift me and my family up in prayer.

Are you sure the Ranger assigned to your county hasn't already become involved in this case?
One of the primary functions of the modern Rangers is assisting local angencies with major crime investigations. Due to their vast lab/equipment resources, it's pretty much standard procedure with these smaller agencies for the local Ranger to be involved from the start.
The Rangers aren't just called in later. The one assigned to the county is normally seen at such major crime scenes alongside the local agency's investigators.0 -
There were several investigators that came to the scene. I do remember one uniformed officer that arrived in a "marked" car by himself. I believe he was a Texas State Trooper; however, he could have been a Texas Ranger. If I recall correctly his uniform was blue and he wore a western style hat. According to the Texas Ranger's website, there are Ranger's assigned to the various counties in Texas. 0 -
Rangers do not wear uniforms identifying them as such or drive distinctively marked vehicles.
Look for the guy wearing a white cowboy hat, clean shaven (no facial hair allowed), heavy starched white shirt, western cut pants, cowboy boots, a brown gun belt, a small round badge (it's made from a Mexican coin)and packing either a SIG or a Colt Gov't Model.
Because there are so few, counties don't have Rangers assigned. The one assigned to the county where this occurred probably covers more than one.0 -

After I requested the involvement of the Rangers, I received a reply stating they HAD been asked to assist in the way of a polygraph operator, but Wood County had requested no further assistance. And, since and until, Wood County requests their help again, no further aid would be lent. (The reply stated the best time for the Rangers to get involved was at the onset of an investigation. That did not happen in Brittany's case. And the Rangers would not force an agency to accept their help.)
There is a main suspect, someone who served 3 of a 4 year sentence for raping and beating a girl in the head; that young girl survived. Since he will not confess, the DNA results must be in before an arrest can be made. (23 days now!)
I thought at the very least the Rangers' involvement could speed up the DNA process, since Dallas County will work their own cases before performing work for these rural counties. I was told the best estimate for DNA evidence return is 30 days, but more realistically, 2 to 3 months.
As I said, this monster has nothing to lose now. Will he torture and kill more young women? Will he slaughter everyone in my home out of rage or to silence those who love Brittany, those who will not rest until her murder is avenged?
I believe the lead investigator will do all he can to apprehend the murderer, but with the assistance of the Rangers he has more resources available to do his job. For instance, the murder weapon has yet to be found. The house where she was murdered is lakefront for all intents and purposes. No one has dived in the lake in search of the weapon.
The suspect left the day after the murder to work out of town. Is the local force watching him to make sure he does not flee? Will we know if and when he comes back to town? I believe the Rangers could keep much better tabs on him, ensuring everyones safety.
I will pester the Rangers until they are saturated in the case.

He is being held on ANOTHER charge, however, until the DNA evidence is returned. His bond is $1 million. He can request a bond reduction in 90 days, but by then he will be indicted for the murder, rape and abuse of my daughter's corpse.
He was imprisoned 5 years ago for beating a young mother in the head and raping her. He did not kill her because her 7 year old daughter got home and witnessed his crime. He stated if he killed the woman he would have to kill the little girl, too. Isn't it nice to know some psychopaths have limits?
He raped and beat his estranged wife when he got out of prison last year. She had filed and later dropped charges and fled out of state. The lead investigator visited her and persuaded her to reinstate the charges, thus leading to the arrest, getting this sicko off the streets and ensuring the safety of any young woman he comes in contact with.
This guy is 6'3", 200 pounds. My little girl did not stand a chance, at 5'5" and 105 pounds soaking wet. And his eyes are dead; soulless.
Now comes the hard part, waiting for trial, enduring the trial and the years he gets to be pampered on death row until the needle is finally inserted and he is put down like the rabid creature he is.

After seeing the mugshot, my wife said she remembers seeing him again that afternoon when he brought his girlfriend to the murder scene (residence) to see her brother. I saw him, also, but didn't pay that much attention to him or his features.
I've always heard that a criminal will come back to the scene of the crime
in this case he did. You just never know!0 -
I am so grateful for the hard work, diligence and discernment put forth by all of the investigators involved in solving the murder of my precious baby girl.
I, too, am thankful we live in Texas. But even here the wheels of justice turn entirely too slowly. Brittany's life was taken in a matter of minutes, (or so I have been told) and he will get to sit on death row for years and years, probably getting the college degree he deprived my daughter of. She was going to be a nurse, like her mom. He has already lived years beyond what he let my baby girl live. But I will crusade here and everywhere else I need to until he is rotting in his grave.

Gipsynurse, I don't know you personally, but Ron is my ex-brother-in-law. Laurie is my sister. I really regret that I wasn't able to make it to the funeral, but believe me, we cried and cried until we couldn't cry anymore. I hadn't seen Brittany since she moved back to Winnsboro and when I saw her last year for Hope's birthday party, I was amazed as to the beautiful and smart young woman she had grown into. She touched the lives of so many people and could light up a room when she entered. One of my favorite memories of her was when she was about 7 or so. I used to tickle her until she almost wet her pants. Then I took her, Ryan, Hope, Brandon and my kids to the Dairy Queen for ice cream. She had the best laugh and was such the sweetest girl. I don't think you'll ever know how much she meant to our family and I want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to be blessed by her life.
I have every bit of faith in the Texas judicial system that justice will be served. I do regret, however, that I won't be a BIG part of that justice.

Hello Ray,
Thank you for your wonderful tribute to Brittany. She was so special; not a "typical" teenage girl by any means. She was so modest, honest and did not waste her time on the frivolous. The only time she had make-up on her gorgeous face was when she went to senior prom last year.
She adored her family, even if some of us were not deserving of that love at times. She drove a 1 ton dually, loved horses, fishing, camping and shopping for boots or flip flops. She was anti-drug, but she loved Jagermeister and Jack Daniels. She loved country, rock and metal music equally. She was a wonderful trumpet player and smart as a whip. She was a hard worker, she held down 2 jobs. She planned to attend nursing school and be a nurse, like me, she was positive she could overcome her weak stomach....
Of course I have done nothing but question myself and God since she was murdered. I miss her so much and her being murdered IS NOT FAIR OR RIGHT! But, I do realize God saved her from a lifetime of misery with Jeff, that sorry boyfriend of hers. ALL of us begged her to drop him like a bad habit. I knew from the moment I met him he was nowhere good enough for my Brittany. I had a bad feeling about him from the get-go, how I wish I had known that feeling was darker and more sinister than anything I could imagine.
Again, thank you all for the support, encouragement and prayers. Please continue to pray for me, Brittany's beloved brothers and sister, her grandparents and her father. We are gathering our strength for the justice system, may it work for good and bring Brittany's killer to swift and sure punishment.

And while in this particular case that right may have not helped, there are thousands of times every year where a handgun in a good guys hand would prevent a mother, family and friends from going through what you and your's are going through...So stick around your voice could be a very powerful weapon against future little creeps that want to crawl out of the woodwork...

gypsynurse - Trish, I don't know if we've met. I'm Laurie's fiance' and wanted to let you know how heartfelt we are for Brit and her soul. I am a former supervisor for the Womens Protective Services here in Lubbock and have requested that Brittney's name be added to the yearly candle light vigil held in February for the local (regional) victims for the previous year. Since Brittney was a student in Lubbock Co. I felt it was appropriate for her to be included. I hope this is OK with you and your family. Hope, Brandon & Laurie thought it was. I knew Brittney through the family here and she had stayed with us a time or two. I see daily how special she is to Hope & Brandon and the rest of her family. She was quite a girl. My family and friends wish to express our condolences and our wish is that justice is served swiftly and accordingly. Thank God for the Texas Judicial System. May god bless you and your family.

I thank you for your condolences and would be honored for Britt's name and memory to be honored at the candlelight vigil.
Brittany adored all of her brothers and her sister. My heart breaks for all of them; I cannot imagine losing my beloved sister. I know what it feels like to lose a child, but not a sibling. But, each of them are as wonderful and remarkable as Britt was and they will bring goodness out of this tragedy, each in their own way.
Please continue to take good care of Hope, Brandon and Laurie. They are always in my prayers.
