Favorite Classic Automobile?
What is your favorite classic automobile? I think Ford styleside trucks from 1973-1979 are great.
Easy for me - any of the 'Golden Three' - '55, '56, '57 Chevy.
Used to own a '56 - am looking at a '55 now.

I agree that the '67 was the best vette ever made and that it was the sexiest car ever made, But not the best car. It is also one of my most desired cars. The problem came when you wanted the car to turn, there was too much weight over the front wheels and the rear was too light causing constant oversteer.
There was a kid I went to school with that had a '73 454 Vette (Zora's favorite Vette by the way) and he decided to race a kid who drove a '74 Prosche 914 1.7L. The Vette won the parking lot battle with a big smoking burn out, that little 914 couldn't even break the tires lose. But after a nice drive accross Glendora Mountain Ridge Road that little Porsche was the winner. The Vette would slowly go through the corners in a 4 wheel drift, but that little 914 would quickly run through while hooking the whole time. This is in no way to say that the 914 is a better car than the Vette, but it is a better car for carving a tight mountain road.0 -
SG,
Were those Cobra's original, or were they kit cars?
What ever they are they are real nice rides.[8D]

Good question. There were several Mopars that should've made the list...

The wife had a 1989 560-SL up until early 2002. We got rid of it as it approached 160K Miles and it became a real money pit.
Decent cars, but not worth the upkeep.0 -
1950 Ford two door

'65 GTO. 389 with Tri Power! 4 on the floor, White with black pinstripes, hard top and redline tires. Used to be the family car when I was little. I can still remember my mom burning them off at the stop light when a guy in a chevelle pulled up and wanted to race! Smoked that dude easy. Man will this car move. You just can't beat the sound of a classic engine. 0 -
Ref: Cobras/GT 40's
If you've got the coin....I mean real HEAVY coin
Get a Superformance.com car. Comes completely assembled minus eng/trans. And the licensed retail outlets will supply engines/trans. to your specifications.
Carroll Shelby has allowed [Superformance] via license agreement to duplicate the Cobra exactly.
Now, GT-40 MarkII....so exact to original (except mirror image-left drive for US) that if you order a 427 race engine w/side oiler dry sump, and order a T-44 transmission, the car is regarded as exact to the original '66 LeMans winners that came in first, second, and third that year. Joe
Alas, a dream.....only a dream. Joe0 -
Ive narrowed it down to three in this order.
1) 1970 Chevelle SS454 (already have)
2) 1971 Hemi Cuda'
3) 1969 1/2 440 Six-pack Super Bee0 -

I drove an original Mark III and was impressed. The Mangusta and Pantera should not be overlooked either. On the Plymouth side the Superbird would hold high priority along with any Trans Am Series car of the AAR Cuda, Dodge Challenger T/A, Z-28's, Boss Mustangs. I will pass on the AMC's. I will own a Ford GT-40 someday.. Someday..0 -
A Mercedes 300SL gull wing coupe would suit my fancy [8D] but my writing a check for a cool half million dollars is not likely to happen any time soon [V]. 0 -

A 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury with the 365 HP 426 CID engine and a four-speed manual transmission. As a MoPar fan, this car combines classic with muscle and to my eye is one of the most handsome cars ever made.

mopar has fans????

Here's the old lady's duster(in need of a heart transplant)
If it looks familiar--it's from the movie Death sentance they just started showing trailers for..

....Ah, select...You mention the Challenger T/A. My BIL had one with a 340 six pack. He somehow got the four speed linkage reversed. It was a be-atch for anyone but him to drive, but he was used to it. My '69 Goat still blew him away. (400, 4 speed, posi, headers, Edelbrock and 13 to ones. That T/A was one nice car though. 0 -

Here's a photo of Doug's classic "Straight Wangsta"!
... best little Yugo I saw up there in Orogon!
Doug keeps it covered and out of sight, behind the house,
and drives it only after midnight!
Too bad ... it's a 'clasick' (as they say in ex-Yugoland)!
[:o)][:o)][:o)]!0 -
Since I put the 2006 HEMI in it, it's got pretty good pick up.
