Reflections of classic cars/trucks in your life
At 63yo, there are many cars I have owned that are now classics that I wished I still had, naturally. Also, I remember 2 particular cars owned by my Dad when I was a kid. One was a 1947 Hudson Super-Six with the "suicide" rear doors. Had the biggest back seat (leg room galore) of any car I can remember. Another one he owned (I was about 8yo) was a 1940 Ford Coupe
it was virtually destroyed by a tornado; but, saved our lives in the process.

Closest I ever came was a '69 Cougar XR-7.
The first wife was driving it when some idiot ren her off the road and totalled it.
I know it wasn't as collectible as, say, a 68. But whatever it lacked in collectibility, it made up for is good, ol' American STYLE. And that Windsor 351 would surprise ya.

My favorite (and fastest) a 74' Challenger. Traded it for a super

Bobski: remember the three-position toggle switch on the dashboard of the Dauphine (French for dolphin)?? The switch controlled the semi-auto ferlec transmission...gear lock/neutral override/normal? It was neat. The only automatic that had a clutch pedal, IIRC. Joe 0 -

Not to get off the topic, but I just found a field near pigeon forge tn. that has old, 30"s to 40's ford, edsels, pickups, all rusting away and the old guy won't sell any of them. There were 6 old 56-57 t-birds, one convertable, a 69 or 70 dodge charger RT 440 six pack, and some other really nice old cars. Near the shooting range in seirville tn.0 -
'35 Chevy coupe - put a 389 Pontiac in that one
'53 Stude Lowery coupe - way ahead of it's time
'55 & '57 Chevy Sedan Delivery - the '57 had factory 4 speed hydro
'63 Pontiac G.P. - Bought that one new
'69 Firebird conv't - still have this one
Numerous vettes - still have a '01 Conv't
'07 Silverado - only the grim reaper will get this one from me0 -

A 1981 Ford Fairmont 4dr is technicially a "classic", but I doubt like hell anyone collects them.

66 Belaire. All original with 39K miles on it when i got it in 1982. Sold it a few years later for $400. It is probably some lowrider somewhere now.... 0 -
'68 Mercury Cougar XR-7. Hands down the fastest car I've ever driven. It would beat the socks off of my '92 Mustang 5.0. But like many of the guns I used to own both off my hot rods were sacrificed for the wife and kids. So far it looks like it was well worth it. 0 -
Porsche 356. Dad bought it new in '65, about 50 were made after mine, its the car I came home from the hospital in when I was born. Still have it, it needs restoring, although I was using it for a daily driver up until 3 years ago. The pic is of one in great shape, mines same model/year/color but rusty. 0 -

Hey, Zip I have a friend that lives down in Huntington Beach that has an old Porsche stored forever. I saw it stored in his garage in the 1980s and it was a 1950 or 1960 vintage I believe. I thought one of the 356 varities. A hardtop I believe. He keeps saying he is going to restore it. If you have any interest I will e-mail him to see if he wants to get rid of it.0 -

I love those old Hudsons. They were really cool. The newer ones that they raced were quite the cars. Had that big six cylinder with mult carbs and would run rings around a lot of V-8s.0 -
1960 Chevrolet Impala 348 tri-power 4 speed - My first car, bought it used with my money. A tuning nightmare.
1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 (375 HP) 4 speed - Bought it new, very few made and it had lots of raw power.
1970 Chevrolet Z/28 Camaro 4 speed - Bought it new as soon as the new body style was available. At first I wished I had bought a 69 instead, but soon learned to love the low end power the 360 HP 350 made and it was still a high rev engine. In 1976 with 50K miles on it I had a Speed Shop in San Diego rebuild and re-spec the engine with higher performance goodies and couldn't believe the gain in power.0 -
A few years ago, I got back with a buddy that served in the Army with me, and later we made our living in a rock band. Since we had done a lot of racing - street racing about 95%, tracks 5% - and a lot of car building, he asked me about the cars I had had since. The list was 4 pages long, over 150 cars and bikes, most that I modified myself. Since then, I've had maybe 10 more.
About half of them would now be considered classic/collector cars, and if I still had them, would no doubt be worth maybe 1 or 1 1/2 million bucks.
Some of the highlights: 2 or 3 '55 Ford coupes, 14 '57 Fords, dual quad '57 Plymouth Savoy, '61 Savoy cross-ram big block, '63 galaxy tri-power 406 convert, (new) 64 1/2 Mustang GT Fastback - solid lifter 4 bbl 260, '65 Falcon 289 4 speed convert, '66 Datsun SPL311 Fairlady roadster, '66 Dodge Charger 383 4 speed, '66 Dodge Dart GT convert - 235 horse 273 4 speed, '65 Galaxy 390 tri-power 4 speed, '70 Ford Mavarick 289 4 speed - race car only, '66 Dart GT hardtop - 273 auto - '73 Dodge 3/4 Ton 2 wd pick up - 440 auto. '75 Chev Monza Town Coupe - 350 auto, '79 Firebird T/A 4 speed - which had the Pontiac engine, not the Olds - '70 AMX 390 ram air 4 speed - my all time favorite car.
Plus a whole bunch more - a couple of favorites were a '63 Olds F-85 Jet Fire 4 speed turbo convert, and an '89 Merkur XR4Ti turbo 5 speed.
Had some fun with cars and bikes.

My fascination with them has brought what could have been a spectacular life down to the level of "damned good".

I've had a number of muscle cars including a '67 R/T, '68 Charger R/T, '69 RoadRunner. I still own a '68 Hemi GTX and of course the pickup in my signature the '60 D-100. My favorite is the '60, I've had more fun with it than any vehicle I've ever owned. Here's a short video clip from last week. The traffic was moving about 60mph. I took it easy shortshifting at 7000 rpm, (best et's are shifting at 7500-7700 rpm.) Dave[:D]

'71 Nova JUST like this one. Same color and wheels too.
Traded the Nova for a complete rolling chassis (Bevis Built) '69 Camaro. Was like this one except blue and had a fiberglass scoop hood. Was a brand new build, never been on the track. Was set up to run mid to high 8's in the quarter mile with the big block that was built for it, that wasn't included in the trade. Sadly, being young and dumb, but mostly poor, I never finished a powerplant for it and traded it off. Kept poorly trading car after car after that 'till I ended up with basically nothing.[:(] Wish I had just stuck it in a barn and let it sit until I could have done something with it.
