My Apology To Jacob2008
Sorry for my snippy remark. Sometimes I forget that you are a kid. You present yourself well, and seem to be very mature for your age, so it is easy to forget that you are only 14, and reply in an insensitive manner.
You wrote: "See Nunn, I dont have the least bit of problem with cops. Rookies, I hate. Senior cops, no problem.
I wrote: "Now, that is about a silly statement. No offense intended.
Where do you think we get senior cops? There ain't a factory making them. They have to start out as rookies."
I should not have said it was a silly statement. It wasn't silly. It was the statement of a kid, which you are, and so it is appropriate. When one is your age, one has a strong sense of what is fair and unfair, and one has a strong belief in how things ought to be. It is only later we discover that the world is terribly unfair, and only rarely are things the way they ought to be.
Honestly, I would rather work with an entire shift of seasoned officers, but that isn't the world we live in. There have to be a few rookies around to take the place of the senior officers who have moved on.
The "senior cops" you have "no problem" with all had to start out as the rookies you say you hate. Every one of them.
Anyhow, I think I was rough on you, and I apologize.

Well said nunn. I still know everything I did when I was 14, except now I know that not all of it was exactly right. 0 -
How about me? I'm only 15.... 0 -
Its ok, Mr. Nunn, I should have worded that different - we have some VERY VERY VERY bad rookie cops in our town - email me about it if you want - dont wanna give my location here..

Dave,
You should never have been a cop. I have considered this for a couple of years and I'm serious about it.
In my opinion, you should have been an English literary teacher.
In the ninth grade, I had an Englit teacher named Harry Jernigan. Mr. Jernigan taught me of Plato, Socretes, Dickens, Romulus and Remis, Beowulf, Tennyison, Melville, Twain, and a hundred other great literary epochs. He had the patience of a saint and the wisdom not to bridle me. In return, he got a thirsty student who will forever honor him for the legacy he left to an ignorant redneck boy.
I wish I could tell him what I have just told you.
Not brown nosing, just my honest opinion.
Addendum: You ever consider subbing in a school? You should, but nothing to do with cop work.0 -
I have to say again.....I am VERY happy....you guys are the best! i wish I could hug you all right now!
(I'm sleepy and it makes me a bit emotional....and Oprah-ish....sniff sniff)0 -
I don't have enough education to substitute in any but the most rural of schools, and not much inclination to get it. Sitting in class is no more attractive now than it was when I was 18. 0 -
hey nunn, how come you are sending private emails to underage kids ? that just doesnt seem right. you know, a report to your office about internet chats and emails to underage kids could land a cop in hot water and on the news. 0 -

He should be on the news, when they have a segment about role models. Im sorry you cant see the difference.0 -
You're a good man, David.
... and that's all that needs to be said about that.

"Senior cops" are those left after the worst of the "Rookies" have been weeded out. "Senior cops" have gotten over their "god complex" and are no longer "turned on" by being able to throw their weight around. IOW The "senior cops" have matured/grown up.
Rookies have a tendency to go after those that are slightly younger than they are (playing the "town bully" if you will).
Used to know a judge that would toss most cases where a "rookie" wrote a younger driver, as he told one "rookie" that protested this "When I feel that you would write someone your fathers age the same ticket, than I'll stop tossing the cases aganst those younger than you"
BTW, I'm in my 50's, but I can still remember being in my teens.0 -
Hey what the heck....I'll throw in my age of 16 0 -
Its nice to see everyone getting along around here. cooler heads will prevail.[:D] 0 -

I think Nunn can make it all better by hosting a giveaway. 0 -

I'll +1 that. I did one semester in a liberal arts college, and that was WAYYY too much for me. I almost walked out of a couple of my classes because the instructors couldn't keep their political views out of their lectures.0 -
I sometimes have high school students taking college courses in my classes. After much discussion with deans, vice presidents and presidents the decision was made that if they are in an adult education environment they are treated like adults. We don't curtail any discussion or presentations because of the presence of students under 18 years of age. They understand that they will get no special consideration and the course content will not be modified to accommodate them.
You want to jump into the big pool with the adults, learn to swim like an adult.0 -

Don't say that! He's a good guy but he'd probably giveaway one of those Lorcine's and then he would get sued for involuntary manslaughter when it blew up. [8D]0 -
But the truth is, the Senior Cops get the better donuts and pasteries.[8D][8D][8D] 0 -
Jacob has ALWAYS acted like a grown person....BUT...knowing he is underage means that the ACTUAL adults (who were raised right and have more than 11 brain cells) shouldn't push the trashy envelope or try to argue with him simply BECAUSE he is younger.
If you are on the phone with someone who SOUNDS like an adult and you find out they are a lot younger than they sound....you don't tear into the very worst language you know while telling an inappropriate joke.0 -
... ah the logical coolheadedness of a woman ... refreshing![:D] 0 -
