After completing Christmas shopping and also church services I have finally decided that these young parents nowdays suck. I heard one parent counting to three at least 10 different times in Wal-Mart. Church was just as bad as they allowed the maniacs to run loose during the service. Apparently counting to three ten times and time out doesn't work. How about a good swat or a boot to the A**. It helped me at an early age and I'm not scarred for life.

I received several spankings in my young years.
Most by hand on the rear when very young,.....and a couple with belts or "switches".
The worst, was the only time my grandfather punished me.
He found a piece of wood, and applied it to my butt, after hearing me use foul language for the first time in my life, and it was towards my mother that busted her rear working to take care of us.
He never touched me again, and I don't recall another spanking for the rest of my young life.
He passed away when I was around 12, and I miss that great man to this day, and feel nothing but love for him.
Give me a break with all of the "spew", about harming kids fragile psychological states of mind.
Yes,......there is a difference between discipline, and abuse, but the new world order wants nothing but "time-outs".
Great thing for kids that it works for,.......many it does not.
Why do most of the 12 year olds "flip the bird", or use "gang symbols" whenever they have a picture taken?
I do not understand that mentality, nor the young girls that think it is neat to pretend "lesbianism", by kissing other girls in pics that they post all over the net.

I spanked my kids and they learned to behave. Anyone who doesn't like my parenting style can talk to my kids about it. Both my 22 year old son and 18 year old daughter think their mother and I did a dandy job ar child raising. 0 -

Were not talking about beating, we're talking about corporal punishment. They even offer it in schools in my area if the parents sign a consent form. I signed giving the school permission to paddle my child if she acts up. Just knowing I signed the form worked for her. No problems in school thus far.0 -

One more. I am 66 years old and have raised 5 girls and 1 son and every one turned out just fine in my opinion. I now have 9 grand children and one great grand child and hope they turn out the same. 0 -

That reminds me... Growing up, we sat in the same pew every week. This pew was special though, the little pieces of wood that held the hymnals in was loose. If we acted up, my mom would take it out and use it on our behinds. Man does a 2 inch x 1/4" stick hurt like an SOB. [xx(] 0 -

Adults are liable to other adults.
Adults work and pay bills.
Children play and live off of adults.
Children would be better off having a paddled butt because they know their not supposed to be close to the stove, rather than being scalded by boiling water from playing near the stove.
Adults can usually for see the consequences and severity of their actions, children not so much so.
I doubt I'll change anyones mind, and that is the best thing about our "supposed" free country You don't tell me CHIT! on how to raise my family and I wont tell you. If you teach a child not to go close to the stove on a consistent, and daily basis, the child will not go close to the stove, because the child will understand that there is something about the stove to avoid, without needing to resort to a beating.

Sad part is that some children who are adults now still act like children. They do not feel they are liable to other adults or anyone,they play and live off other adults. As a role model they will raise their children to be just the same.
Also I honestly believe those here in favor of paddling/spanking/corporal punishment DO NOT advocate beating the crap out of children. As I said before I was paddled/spanked and received corporal punishment in school. My daughter was punished also,never were her or I ever beaten.0 -

I replyed earlier on this topic but with such assine comments I will reply again. My dad was whipped with bailing wire when he screwed up. I was whipped with a belt. I have whipped my son with only my hand. I hated the belt and "I" deemed it not necessary for my son. He has always been a good kid. We tried to teach him about consquences. He knew from an early age that every action he had could either have a positive or negative reaction. We would take him to dinner with us to the finest resturaunts when other parents would not take their 3 year olds there. We did this because we knew that he would behave or else there would be consquences. He is only 13 now and he is bigger than I am. He has been heavy into basketball and football since the 4th grade. All of his coaches tell us how respectfull he is. I don't see him getting his butt whipped as a youngin as being a bad thing. I look at the way some of his friends were and are being raised and I feel fortunate that have the son that I have. I believe that I had a hand in that. He is a straight A student, respectful to his elders, and will help anyone who needs it. I don't think that the couple of butt wippins that he recieved when he was younger did him much harm. He makes me so proud that I can't even put it into words. He says "Yes Sir, Yes Ma'am." You can try that other chit with your kids but I will keep mine and be proud of not only what he has accomplished but what we as parents have. 0
