    Oh, really Marc?

I spelled "realize" with a "z"? I didn't realise the content of my posting I would be graded first on composition and spelling. Kind of thought this was a "stream of consciousness" sort of arena.

You should have quit while you were ahead....

quote:Also, I would rather think that a child should be taught not to behave badly because it is the right thing to do, not out of fear of some sort of punitive measures. Otherwise, what role does morality have in this? "So, when the authority figures are not around, or I can sneak behind their backs, I will do whatever I please"? Seems to me there is a difference.

Let it go,.......I will respond no further tonight.
    Agree to disagree.
    A very simple prospect.

My bad editing. Like I said before, I tend to get a little worked up on the subject.

Dammit can't you people see you are hurting your children mentally as well? Most of you say the whippings you got made you the man you are today. THINK ABOUT THAT. You are hurting your children the same way you were hurt. If you have to make your children do what you want them to do because they fear you what does that say about you as a parent? The only reason you don't use the same tactics on a person who can fight back is because you know they will knock the crap out of you so you hit a little child who can't hit you back. Do you sit back and light up a cigarette and relax with a satified smile on your face while your child is somewhere crying after you get through whipping them? Hell if you don't already you should start whipping your wife too because I'm sure she don't always do what you want. Ever try sitting down beside your child and talking to them in a calm voice about a problem? Out of all of this the dumbest one I read was a guy hitting his child because they put a crayon mark on the wall. A damned crayon mark.

When I was a young kid I got some good whippings. They taught me alot. When I turned 12 my dad and mom got divorced and they turned to beatings by my mother. Cast iron pans, belts, shoes, once she tried to stab me with a pair of scissors then called the police and tried to have my arrested. I was older so the officers split us up and asked us both what happened and when my story match . I learned alot from them also on how I'd treat my children.

If I catch my kids doing something that really sets me off or I'm angry, I won't touch them. At that moment I might not realize how hard I'm spanking them like my mother did. I tell them to go to their room and I'll be there after awhile to talk with them or deploy a punishment whether it's spanking or losing something they desire or turning whatever happen back onto them.

Saying all that I've spanked my older daughter only once when she she was 4 or 5 and haven't had to since. My younger daughter is alot like me and she needs to be spanked and reminded what's what on a much more frequent basis. I give either of my daughters a "don't cross this line look in public and they both stop immediatly because they know when we get home if they take advantage of the situation they will pay much more dearly of a price.

I'm amazed and almost think people like Rosie and rcrsx oldlady are joking. Wake up there is a big different between spanking and abuse.

Rosie I don't hit my kids to make me feel like a man like you claim people do. Saying that makes you look like a complete fool.

Being a social worker means poop to me. My step mother one of those and I went through horrors because of that women.

Interesting posts to say the least. Growing up my parents never physically disiplined myself or my sibblings, all us kids were well behaved and when we did get out of line the punishment was usually being not allowed to do something we enjoyed for a period of time. The only time that my Father physically struck me was when I was about 15 yrs old, and I had lipped off to my mother, he was pissed and approached me straight on, took his pointer finger and thrust it into my sternum, what seemed as hard as he could ten times. with each thrust a word was attached...YOU WILL NEVER SPEAK TO YOUR MOTHER LIKE THAT AGAIN. I stood there and took every hit, the physical pain was immense, but what hurt more was that my own Father had caused that pain to me. To his day if someone shakes or points a finger toward my face or chest area, it brings inner rage that reminds me of that day in my life....I have three children and have never physically disiplined them. I am not judging anyone here..physical discipline by my father that one time has come back to haunt me my entire life. And its a memory I wish I didn't have. Just something I thought I'd share.

I agree, this counting to three stuff is crap, what happened to a good ol' beatin'.

Lets see, I am going to take it that most of us on here are 25 or older which places you in the you were whooped at one point or another in your childhood years, now lets look at what happens when you look at this other generation that gets the 1,2,3..................three seconds gives them enough time to load up and shoot something.

You never heard of school shooting until recenetly, about the same time I started to notice that you can't beat your kids anymore.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad I'm not alone on this issue. For Rosie's benefit, I was not talking about beating a child. I think she is way out in left field, no not even in the ballpark on this issue. I retired two years ago after 29 years of law enforcement and when I left I knew it was time to start talking to the kids and spanking the parents. But kids need to know who the rule makers are and how to act in todays society. I cringe at the thought of how so many of these spoiled kids are going to be our future law makers and leaders. Mark my words, WATCH OUT!!!
