My mother would likely to have killed me for the way some of these children act today

Our children have been raised with consequences for their actions and they have become normal and well adjusted [^]

Well, then, I'm fairly certain you didn't see me with my sons. I'm 27; they're 2.5 and 1 year old. THe only time I count with them is when I'm teaching them to count (the 2.5 year old can count to fourteen). They get the swat now and then but are generally good kids. They're angels when they're being watched by a babysitter.

I am 100% behind u on this topic. They way parents are raising their kids nowadays,I dont have children but my brother and sister does,My sister's girls live just 20 miles away so I see them all the time, and they know, not to act up with me.
When they were younger I have pulled the car over off of the highway and smacked all of them not just the one acting up but all of them because somehow I knew they were all involved.
Now all I have to do is give that look to them and they know, and I have taken charge when out with my sister I told her that I dont accept that and will not have them act like wild animals when we are out somewhere.
And now Bry is turning 2 next month and he will be taught the same thing,,as much as I love him and I hate to spank him I will to teach him how to behave

I gave my daughter her last spanking when she was 4. I made it count. Haven't had to spank her since. I did it infront of friends and family. They all looked really down on me for hitting her. Now their children are getting older and they are wild as hell. They do not believe in spanking children. Spankings work in my opinion. But it must be applied right and at a young age. By right, I mean forceful spanks on the ass with lots of yelling and do this in front of other people. If you dont make it hurt, they wont understand. By yelling, you are trianing them that when your voice gets loud, the spanking is right around the corner. Doing it in public lets them know that it can come at any time. Since my daughters last spanking over 10 years ago, now when I raise my voice a little, she knows to straighten up. She has grown up to be quite a respectful, considerate, compassionate, and well behaved young lady. Now if only she will stay that way for the next couple of years. [:)]

When my son was about 6 we were at Red Lobster and about ready to leave. I told him "let's go to the bathroom." He started crying asking "What did I do?"
He just turned 13. He is 5'11" 140lbs. He got his butt whipped when he needed it. He has so far grown up to be very respectful. He is to big for a butt whippin now but he still knows that dad won't and doesn't put up with any chit.

After completing Christmas shopping and also church services I have finally decided that these young parents nowdays suck. I heard one parent counting to three at least 10 different times in Wal-Mart. Church was just as bad as they allowed the maniacs to run loose during the service. Apparently counting to three ten times and time out doesn't work. How about a good swat or a boot to the A**. It helped me at an early age and I'm not scarred for life.

yes you are but in a damn good way[:)]

Any man who hits children is not much of a man in my book. Do you guys hit every one who displeases you and are able to hit back? I didn't think so. Why don't you try it some time. At work or where ever when someone does something wrong run up and hit them. Swat THEM on the ass and see what happens. Hit people who can defend them selves if you are man enough.

Boy, I hope that was tongue in cheek. Children respond to different stimuli than adults. We learn at a young age to avoid what hurts. It is people like you that call the DFS when a youngster gets a swat and makes a parent trying to do the right thing have to deal with a lot of BS. Of course, this has happened to me and I was told that they would rather I spank my kids so they don't have to deal with them in juvenile.

    Enough of a rant.

I was out shopping with my my way back in my late teens and we say a kid haveing a tantrum, I asked my mom "what would you have done if I acted like that?", she said "you never would have made it that far".

I havent had to use "the rod" on my 7 year old since she was 5 and I have never had to use it on my 3 year old. "The Rod" is a switch off of one of the eucliptus trees I have out back and it is promanitly displayed so they see it in my room every day.

Let me tell you what stops folks from being good parents in the order of their dangerousness.

    1. BUSYBODY CREEPS who just can't stand that someone dishes out discipline in a manner that they DO NOT. These a55holes will call the PD on you in a second.

    2. FORMER SPOUSES who look the kid over with a magnifying glass, just frothing at the mouth for some unexplained bruise to be present so she can fabricate tales of "persistent abuse" and get the kid taken away from the Dad permanently. (After all, it's all HIS fault anyway)

    3. CRAPPY PARENTS who are just too busy trying to be their kids "buddy" rather than make the hard judgement calls and be a PARENT.

This generation of soul-less little sociopaths, full of self-esteem that they've done nothing to earn, and respectful of no authority whatsoever is the full on undeniable consequence of this vaginated parenting "style"...

I was very fortunate with my son. Never spanked him but he was well aware that I would if needed. He is doing fine as an adult now. My father used the belt on me when I was young. That taught me that if I screwed up, I would be punished. I am not scarred for life either.

Dad past away when I was in 3rd grade and mom never remarried. She never hesitated to spare the rod. We were ask to do something once, then told to do it. After that there were no third warning the belt came out and she would lite our tails up.

I have a 21 year old son, good person and has a job, and a 14 year old daughter, good kid A's and B's in school. I spanked them both when they were younger, if they needed it. I haven't had to spank my 14 year old in several years but she knows it could happen if she don't act right.

Now, my problem is my 15 year old cousin. He was being raised by his grandparents and they both died without about two months of one another. My Aunt, (his grandmother), had asked me to take him and finish raising him if anything ever happened to them. Who knew?

Anyway, we get him and get him in school and he brings home a failing grade in Geometry. I told him there would be consequences if he continued to fail, he's too big to spank. Long story short he not only flunks Geometry but he flunks biology also. I had told him I would take his truck away plus his video/t.v. cable. He obviously did not believe me. He brought home the report card on thursday and friday morning he rode the bus to school. When he came home that afternoon his truck was gone. I had taken it to my work and left it. He has not seen it in a couple of weeks. I hope that is incentive enough to bring his grades up.

The next step is to sell the truck if he don't straighten up. I wish I had had him from birth but we work with what we have to work with.

I wasn't spanked as a kid....I was whipped with a hickory switch, or a gunbelt, until I could, in the midst of the intense pain, sense a change, or a shift, from one reality to another (hurt bad enough, and you will too).

And my whippings were not administered in a cold-blooded fashion, but in a very hot-blooded, mad at the whole world, boiling rage that took all the anger and hostility out on me. But then again, I was blessed with the textbook rendition of 'the wicked stepmother'. And when she didn't do the whipping, she could certainly prevail upon my dad to do so.

And by 'cold-blooded fashion' I'm talking about light spankings without emotion, spanking to benefit the child, not to please the adult. And as a result of my own raising, I never used a switch, or a belt, or even a cast iron skillet (as was sometimes used on me), but instead, a broken canoe paddle that I trimmed down and smoothed out. The wide blade of the paddle would do two things, 1) it would intimidate the kid because it was big, and 2) it would hurt much less than a thinner paddle, since the force was spread over a larger area.

And after explaining the necessity of spanking, I would have the kid stand there (my dad would grab my left arm, lift my body from the ground and swing me around as he tore my posterior up with the belt or switch), and 'take it like a man'. And never more than a couple of swats at that. Punishment can easily cross the line into abuse.

Overall though, the spankings were very few, for they were reserved for only the most serious breaches of conduct. I loved my kids enough that most often, just a glance of disapproval, or disappointment, was enough punishment and then some.

One great church leader in China (Watchman Nee) had a very unique manner of punishing his kids. Whenever a child misbehaved sufficiently to need a spanking, Watchman Nee would remove his (that is Watchman's) shirt, and have his wife whip himself about the back pretty severely, as the child watched.

That kind of treatment very quickly brought home to the kids that their misbehaviours caused someone else to be hurt....so they did their best to behave. I wish I had known of this when my own kids were young.

Finally, the Bible tells us this (among many other things when it comes to disciplining children), "Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying". Proverbs 19:18

And, "Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him." Proverbs 22:15

Would I call the PD on you? YOU CAN BET YOUR SORRY ASS I WOULD. What would happen if I saw you beating on a child? I WOULD KNOCK YOU ON YOUR SORRY ASS. If it takes beating on a little child to make you feel like a man then may God help the child.

Spare the rod did not mean child abuse when I was grownig up in the 1960's. A good spankin' saved everybody a lot of grief. [;)]

Two swats on the rear end with a switch is not "beating on a little child" nor is it child abuse, it is only an attatude adjustment that is followed by love, hugs and an explanation of whay they recieved their punishment.

I got whipped with yardsticks and other solid items growing up.

I found that spanking my Kids with my hand between the ages of 2 and 3 taught them to pay attention to me.

I never raised my voice, and after the spanking would explain why they got spanked, while holding them and telling them how much I loved them.

My Children have turned out well, as some of you may know.

Every parent has the obligation to learn what methods of discipline work most effectively on their Children.

    Different Kids need different methods.

Is smacking a childs hand a "beating" to you? I find your point of view to be a bit odd to me.

In My Not So Humble Opinion, a good ass whipping is a great thing for a child. The wages of sin is death, the wages of crayon on the wall is a good whippin! AMEN!

Time Outs [?] Counting to 10 [?] WTH

Sounds like the PC way to discipline a child so that they can grow up not being responsible for their actions. I feel it is what in turn leads to them expecting everything for nothing in our society.
I along with my 3 brothers and 3 sisters was spanked/paddled when we screwed up,as was my daughter when she needed it. All of us turned out to be solid upstanding citizens of society working for what we wanted in life not expecting everyone else to provide for us.

For those who would call the closest cop or have Wally World manager call them when they see someone disciplining their child either do not have any children or theirs will be the ones that mine and my grand children will be supporting the rest of their lives. Those children will never have any respect for anything or anyone.

I was whooped many a times by my father as a youngster,I can honestly say i cant remember ever being whooped for the same thing twice.Never held it against my father and i passed the whoopins on to my 5 children when they needed it,Theres a big difference between a beating and what i call a whoopin. If i was wrong,i,ll pay for it,but my children love and respect me to this day. Thanks,Paul

There is a vast difference between beating a child and spanking a child. I doubt there is one of us here that would condone the beating of a child. For the sake of clarification, do you consider corporal punishment to be abuse? How do you discipline your children?

On a side note, why would you call the police for something that is not illegal? What a waste of time and money. I guess if you consider spanking to be abuse I can understand the reason, but in the eyes of the law, a spanking is not abuse.

I am just curious were all of this hostility to a tried and true method of discipline comes from.

my dad used branches, if he send me outside to get one
I had better gotten one big enough, because if he had to go
get one, I would pay, it hurt like hell.
But the whole purpose was to make sure I did not do it again.
now days OMG thats child abuse, these damn people make me sick.
