My Personal Favorite is the grand old slabside AKA 1911
the better brands in a resonable price are springfield armory, kimber and colt. they are also made by more than a dozen other countries and cost more than your first car! ! ! !

The H7K USP45 would be my next choice after a 1911
the sig sauer p220 in 45 or a P245
The Springfield Armory XD in 45 is an excellent gun

One more happy Rock Island owner here... 2,000 rounds and no issues
*If* I had been able to find eihter a EAA Witness or CZ97b locally to hold and check fit in my hand, I may have gotten a Witness instead - I like the thought of factory conversions to 9, 10, 40, 22lr for $200... but I couldn't find one so I got myself a piece of the Rock..0 -

Buy American:
S & W or Kimber:
All of the money you spend will stay in the country and will provide a living wage for a U.S. citizen and craftsman. It will also work towards supporting a proud domestic industry that is under fire from all sides, political and economic. S & W, Kimber, Colt, Ruger, Kahr etc., have chosen to continue production in the U.S. That type of loyalty should be rewarded.
RIA and Springfield have taken proud American names and then build the product off-shore. Its obviously your choice, but if people continue to choose off-shore production, we eventually will have no other option.

HK Tactical in .45, kinda large but I carry mine.
HK P9S in .45, kinda rare but one hell of a fine piece that is easily concealable. Buy two, one to collect, the other to shoot and carry!0 -
The Ruger is at least as reliable as any of the "gun snobs" fancy, foreign guns, while giving you the most bang for the buck and some of the best customer service around.
Do you want a pistol to impress every one with how wealthy (and silly) you are, or do you want a pistol that saves you money and is dead reliable and more accurate than you ever will be??0 -

I guess I would qualify as one of your so called "gun snobs" so I will throw my 2cents your way.
I have owned and shot several P series Rugers and still own a couple.
I have owned and shot a few SIG pistols and still own one.
I have owned and shot several pistols and still own several pistols for that matter.
I am the last guy to feel a need to impress anyone with firearms and my choice of pistol is based on what it is and how "I" like it, not on who designed and made it, or who I perceive will be impressed by my ownership of it.
For me it boils down to which firearm I choose to carry, depend upon, and trust.
For you it might be a Ruger. So what?0 -

I agree to a point, I own more Ruger's than any other manufacture and I truly believe in their product. But the main thing that could be said for any gun purchase is to buy the gun that fits you the best. I could care less if you could get a 1911 to shoot 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards, if it dosent fit your hand properly you will never be able to shoot that gun well. I have sold Ruger P-89's to people who were looking for a H&K USP 40, just because it fit their hands better. I have also sold H&K USP 45's to people who came in looking for a S&W Sigma, just because it fit their hands better. Don't let the price of the gun determine what gun is best, the best gun for you is the gun that fits you the best.
For my hand the H&K USP 45 is the best fitting and finest gun in (45 ACP) there is, in close second would be the CZ-97. The Ruger, although I love them is at the bottom of the list right above the Glock 21.0 -

While they are solidly built, and for the most part, dependable.

I will buy nothing but American made guns when the American companies can match or beat the pride of workmanship found in the foreign made guns. Is there an American made shotgun that can compete with a Rizzini, Perazzi or Krieghoff? I'm talking quality of workmanship and the pride that come in that workmanship. Is here a reason why American companies can not win a gold medal on the world stage? Yes, it is because they no longer believe in being the best, the just keep feeding you the same mass produced stuff from 1911.0 -

I think I paid $1100 or so for mine. Make sure you DON'T get the LE trigger - it is double action only. But you do want the high cap 12 round mags. I am sure they still make them, they are still listed as a current model on hk's website.0 -

Who said anything about "exceptional" accuracy? The average person will never fire enough rounds to be "accurate" with a handgun. When I was shooting USPSA I would burn 500-600 rounds a week and there was still room for improvement.

Seems to me,if the shooter is lousy, a lousy gun would make them worse, a somewhat lousy gun would make them just a little worse, and a good gun would shoot where they aimed it.
