I am humbled...and in a place I have never been...
I have always been one to take care of my own...but I am at a point where I don't know if I can physically do it any more. I do not believe in gov't subsidies but Gulf War I has literally brought me to my knees. I can no longer make a living doing what I know how to do. I have been a custom builder for the past 12 years and I started up our gun business to (hopefully) be able to take over when I could no longer do construction...unfortunately that day came sooner than i had expected. I can no longer do it...and I'm only 36 years old. I feel like such a failure. I've been trying to find another way to make a living...anything that I can do, but with no luck. Most of you guys are proud men...like I used to be...try to imagine what it might feel like for your daughter to have just had a birthday and you were not able to buy her a present...on top of that, Christmas is just around the corner...the only presents under the tree will be from friends or family. IF God does not work a miracle, we will not have a home or business within a few weeks.
Folks, please pray for me and my family. The pain is getting to be so much...and I'm afraid I'm losing my mental faculties...I don't know how much time I have left and it's hard...I still have a family that I need to take care of. I could really use your prayers people.
Some of you may not understand that I come from a very proud family...a family where we do not ask for help...or prayer...a family where we've always been able to "make it happen". You may not understand that I've always been a person that thought I would always have an answer...
I'm in a place now that I've never been. I need prayer. I need for the Lord to provide another occupation that I can provide for my family in. I have not worked for someone else in so long that I'm not sure where to go. I can no longer do construction and I really need for the Lord to open another door.
Would you guys please join me in prayer, in agreement, that the Lord would work a miracle in my life. I don't know how much longer I have left, but I would really like to have the opportunity to provide for my family while I am still on this earth.
I don't expect some of you to ever understand what I'm talking about. Those of you that have known me for the past several years can probably understand where I'm coming from (I've been humbled).
I really do not know if I should post this...I have never admitted such failure in my life...who of you would have ever thought that at age 36, you would barely be able to function in a normal capacity...certainly not me....and I keep looking for an alternative...please keep me and my family in prayer. God is able to handle my situation. He can carry me through it. I just pray that He enables me to provide for my family before I go.
There are some who will probably think less of me for posting this thread...and for that, I apologize. For the rest, I am speaking my heart and I just do not know what to do.
If all you Christians will pray for me and my family, I know miracles can and will happen.
I am ashamed and humbled to have to come before you like this...but your prayers will work...
Thank you...and please forgive my moment of weakness
Folks...I've been sitting here trying to decide whether or not to post this thread...but you know what...if I can get 2 or 3 people who will truly pray for me about this matter, I could care less about how it makes me look. Prayer is powerful and effective. This old "proud" soldier has been humbled...

There is no shame in asking for prayer. That is what we are called to do, pray for each other, love one another. I will pray for you and your family. (Please read Proverbs 11:2) 0 -
ECC
im sorta new here and have not had any post with you. but when someone is in need of help. will gather up some prayers and send them your way.
i have read there is alot here that also have had some tough times, me included. was hurt in 92 offshore
i do feel GOD will not place more on us then we can carry.
things will get better0 -
Eric,
Been there, done that. I had to swallow my pride, tuck my tail between my legs, and go to my father for help bailing myself out when I was in my early 30's. He help both financially and spirtually. God provides a way, but we as men sometimes let our pride hold us back. God will break that pride and independence and show us we can depend on him.
Prayers sent, and you'll be on the daily prayer list. God is working on you. Thank him.

ECC - Prayers sent up from here. I also have been humbled before. Don't let it control you and don't feel bad when just asking for a little help. 0 -
Eric,
My prayers are with you and your family, although I beg you to not think of yourself as a failure in any way. If you love your family, gifts and presents don't matter. Trust me when I say that your children won't remember what you gave them for their birthday, but they will always remember your love.
God is with you. Trust in Him and do not give in to despair or depression. What seems an insurmountable barrier today will hardly be a bump in the road tomorrow.0 -
Eric,
Through the toughest parts of my life, I always told myself that God has a plan. At the other end of the tunnel each time, he has proven to be faithful and I am truly convinced he will be there for you and your family also.
God bless you, you and your family are in my prayers.0 -
Eric
You say you are weak I think otherwise. I have not been in your position but you have done somthing I could never see myself having the guts to do, ask for help. You have a family and that alone is reason enough to find a way. God will guide you on that path and I believe that.
My prayers are sent

He could not get a weed eater running, with his back, he cant pull the starter but a few time, He got so mad he grabbed his cane and threw it, so then here he was lying on the ground from the pain, first he had pain from the weedeater, the real pain came from when he threw his canes across the yard. Lucky I was home, I heard the comotion. walked over here he is lying there, I ask what he doing.
I had to laugh, he told me he was watching the clouds.

You and your entire family are in our prayers. I will add your prayer request to our church here and our old church over in Ppst Falls. RLMIN can help you and your family in more ways than just prayer, but prayer is the most powerful help they offer [:)]. You are not a failure. It takes a very strong man to dis-regard their pride and ask for help/prayer. You are not alone. If you need anything at all, or wish for some contact names/numbers down in PFalls/Newport/CDA for prayer/employment connections/anything, please shoot me an email. 0 -
i`ve said a prayer for you and your family sir, and i gope it does some good...i dont live in the U SU but if someone there knows how i can help with some cash you tell me here...i`ve ticked the box that will give me an email, i hope that works...i`m just learning about these computers...men like you shouldnt need to ask for help! your government should be checking up on all veterans every year to see if you need it! i understand where you are coming from about being a beaten proud man...and i hope everyones prayers are answered...good luck to you 0 -
Eric,
First off, I just want you to know that I'm there for you with prayer for you and your family. I've been going thru the exact same thing you are going through now, and finally had to give up work in March 2006. It is tough, but you will make it. I want you to contact this guy here:
Tom Ressler
VFW Department Service Officer
805 W. Franklin Street
Boise, ID 83702-5560
Phone: 208 334-1245
Fax: 208 334-3549
E-Mail: resslert@veterans.idaho.gov
You'll need to sign a power of attorney for him to represent you, and then get your VA disability claims going. You would easily meet the requirements for disability and would be rated at 100%. That's $2610.00 per month to get you started. This is not a hand out either. You have worked very hard and earned this. It is your right to claim this along with SSA disability. You have over paid on that all these years and you just as well get some of that back. It's yours! You've earned it! It's not welfare and don't let anyone else tell you it is. All this will take some time to get started so you will see harder times yet, but like me, you will not have a choice. I went through all the I'm worthless crap, depression, ect. And now times are looking better for me and my family.
Mr Ressler will get you going in the right direction and will ensure that you are getting all you have coming. Please give him a call and get your claims going. If you need any advice or help, give me a holler. I'll help you all I can. GWS sucks, and I know firsthand.
Also, go to your counties veterans representative. That person can help you as well. They should have emergency funds to help with bills, while your claims are being processed.
Best wishes,
Ron Harper aka: Sarge0 -

Thanks for the info Sarge. I just initiated a new claim and they are trying to locate my records and the old claim I filed in 1996. They claim that they not only lost that claim, but that they lost my active duty medical records, my initial disability compensation rating, and all of my VA medical records from when I went through the Persian Gulf Registry. They claim that they have no archived records for me either. When I requested my C file, it came to Boise as a rebuilt file. I just signed over power of attorney to a rep in Lewiston, so I guess I'll have to give this guy a shot before switching representatives. I'll hold onto the contact info you provided though. Thanks!0 -
God helps those who helps themselves. My prayers and sympathy are with you, but if you don't know anything but the construction business, I'd say you'll have to go back to school to help open that new door. Not sure what you'd want to do or could do but that's all I can suggest. 0
