Sure, single and multi-holers. Two bedrooms and a path was a standard nationwide joke at the time. Never did learn to appreciate the spiders, wasps, ants, corncobs, and slick catalog paper. I don't know which was worse in the winter, a wooden seat in the outhouse, or a porcelain coated steel chamberpot in an unheated room inside the house.

There were a few pages of that old catalog it just seemed a sin to wipe with![}:)]

Sanitary toilets......Glad they are mostly gone. Don't miss em a bit.
Never cleaned one out...just dug a new hole and moved it. Threw the dirt in the old hole.
DONT use the slick pages..they will skid. [:(]
    Newspaper leaves ink stains.
    Kroger pokes are too rough.
DON'T use the ladies undies section....it has other uses. (your big bother won't tell you what but he'll smack you in the head for it.)
Always check for wasp nests BEFORE setting down.
If your a kid DON'T set on the big hole...don't ask
    DON'T drop anything....its gone forever.
Never try to snatch a outhouse without checking to see if its empty first!...Again don't ask. [}:)]
Never leave the door unfastened...or it'll swing open and let your pals make fun of you....and there will be someone to see! I don't care if your 30 miles from town and on private property someone will walk by and look in!

Women still hadda go in groups!....whatsup with that?

And guys if your hunting and camping dig a lil hole. Those clusters of white TP all over the place look really really nasty! [V]

It was not so long ago
That I went trippin thru the snow
Out to that house behind my old hound dog

It was just a simple hut
But the door was never shut
And a man could get inside without a dime

Where I'd lay me down to rest
Like a snowbird on it's nest
And read the Sears and roebuck catalog

Did'nt Jimmy Dean have a hit single about a two-story outhouse? Was'nt it called Big Bad John?

an outhouse is no challange comapred to a boat toilet with a stright pipe to the water...every swell has the potential to give you the badai treatment...salt water on yur parts aint fun.

OK here is a peice of true trivia for you all. The incidence of black widow spider bites declined dramatically in the US during the last half of the 20th Century. Why? Indoor plumbing. The majority of bites were recieved on the genitals and buttocks while using the outhouse.

    Think about that next time.

YUP used one daily for about 5 years as a kid. Lets just say I didn't waste any time reading while I was getting the job done. Especially in the winter. My great uncle had an "attached" outhouse for years. The modern ones are pretty much stink free because they finally put big enought vent pipes( usually abot 12") into the hole to carry the smell out.I've helped fill and dig a couple holes too.
I recall a few dance halls that up till about 15 years ago still had outhose type facilities often with multiple holes and a troth for the men to go in.
