What to do when the Mormon's come around?????
I was sleeping today, I have to work tonight. About 2pm there's a knock on the door. I throw on some athletic shorts, no shirt, and look out the window in the door. Smiling back at me are 2 young mormon men. Awww, crap they already saw me. So I open the door, it's like 20* outside. My dog is going nuts so I'm not letting them in, didn't plan on it in the first place. They talked to me about the Prophet, asked me if I have a belief of my own. (Remember, I discovered Christianity a little over a year ago?) I told them yes,......da...da...da...da...da... They said they could come back later, "What is a good time?" I said, it's pretty much hit or miss as I work a wierd shift.
What do I say when they come back?
What do I say when they come back?

Maybe a sign that says
BEWARE OF DOG AND WIFE [:D][:D][:D]
I know someone that has a skull with an X through it painted on a rock that say BEWARE OF DAD0 -
dano--They were using a primitive sales technique. "Why Not" is a poor way to approach that sales step. Probably new guys. 0 -
Being told "I'm not interested" once, should be enough. After that, I just slam the door in their face.
If I wanted to talk about God, I'd form a disussion group and invite them.0 -
I've done this a couple of times...
"Thank you for the good work that they do bringing people to Christ. You guys keep bringing them into the fold and the ________(insert religion of choice here) will make sure to finish the job." Then just close the door.0 -
Tell them that you will convert as long as they provide you with three or four 18-year old brides as part of the package. 0 -
I am LDS and a convert, if you aren't interested then just politely but firmly tell them that. they are trained to try to overcome objections. there is no need to be rude to them I assume that you are more mature than that. They are answering a calling and are really fine people. I am not a missionary and have never been on a mission what's more they did not approach me I approached them. If you are not investigating religon or are not ready too just tell them, if on the other hand you are curious give them an hour and see what they have to say yu may find it interesting, or not. anyway please don't be rude. 0 -
As stated in other posts, there is no need for rudeness or name calling or putting down of their beliefs...Just tell them you arent interested and close the door....
On the other hand, you might find it very very interesting to learn about their life...By that I mean, what they do daily as a missionary....their budget, their routine, etc...You might be in for a bit of a shock...0 -

Most would be very shocked! The finances for those young men to be on your doorstep comes from their own pockets. The children are taught to save throughout their childhoods to go on their missions for the church.
Like I said before, I was raised LDS. I did not go on a mission as I stopped going to church before I got to that age. But if I did start going again it would be to a mormon church. If for nothing else the family values that they would teach my kids. They are a very family based religion, and personally I think more americans need to embrace that.0 -
I know most would be shocked....My ex was very high up in the priesthood, and I have fed many many misionairies....as well as their curfews, the reports, the work they do besides going door to door...and that is why I said to ask them about it....Most wont believe what they will hear.. 0 -
When they come here in Maine their not Mormons, their Jehovah's Witness. 0 -
mormon girls are hot, utah is full of them. when they come back ask them to bring some girls with them. 0 -
give them a hour or two it will get you thinking 0 -
Start with asking them to pledge allegiance the American flag and go from there. 0 -
How about briefly and firmly saying you don't want to talk to them and shutting the door? 0 -
Cubs,
Your a married man, WHAT are you doing answering the door anyway?[:D]
Thats what the wife is for.[}:)]

Some of you have said, "Don't be rude." WTH???
Maybe I was brought up better than some, but I was taught that "dropping in" at someone's house without an invitation or calling ahead, was RUDE.
So, whether you are selling a particular brand of religion, or magazine subscriptions, or vacuum cleaners, if you knock on a door where your knock is not expected, you are being rude.0 -

That's why doors have "knockers." Or doorbells to the side of same.
That's why it's called a door, not an invitation to enter!
It's considered a polite way to introduce ones self.
Do you consider 'excuse me" to be rude too? [8]

I hope you never have the need to knock on someone's door to ask for help, Nunn.

To every rule there is the inevitable exception. I would not consider it rude to knock on a door to ask for help because of car trouble, accident, illness, etc.
But, to knock on a stranger's door and expect to be let in for an hour or so of conversation, is rude.0 -

Especially for solicitation.0 -
I'd tell 'em that Jesus is God and start a good debate. 0 -
I slide a fake stick of dynamite out the mail slot, with a burning fuse.
Real sticks cost me too many doors [:D]0 -

John Browning was a Morman. His father, who taught young John gunsmithing, had several wives.
Maybe this is how a John Moses Browning holiday can be celebrated. Oh wait that was another thread. MLK day or maybe the JMB Holiday thread. I don't remember.
I guess I would say thank them but not interested. I have my own beliefs and convictions. I'm not good enough speaker to get into a debate when I know nothing about Mormon, Jehovah Witness, or whatever. I'm just not a good speaker.
Yes, many are good people. Most of whom hold fast to there convictions. Gotta respect that. This reminds me, there is a department supervisor at work who I have heard is Jehovah Witness. I don't know if he is or not. Might be pentecostal or 7 Day Adventist for all I know. Never asked him, just what the rumor was. In any case, I respect him more than most others there. He is an honest man with a good work ethic. You can count on him.
I guess I am saying there are some religions that some might consider protestant and others might consider it a cult. Heck, some think the Catholic Church is less than Christian. I don't know, but if the person if a good man I will respect him regardless and I'll not disrespect his respect for religion.0 -
Just tell them you are not interested and they will leave you alone. No need to go to silly game playing with the Mormons. Have known a few and all were real nice folks, proud to call them fiends. Most gun owners like us. 0 -
Thanks, but No Thanks and shutting the door should work for anyone...now if they put a foot in the door thats a different matter.

I grew up around some Mormans. Very down to earth, good people for the most part. Never had any stop to preach at my door. Come to think of it, haven't seen any JW around here in a coons age either. 0 -
I ask them if they want to come in so we can talk over a beer.

Last year, during the LAST 50 laps of the nascar race, the 'missionaries' came to the door. I politely explained the situation. They went a bit further, and I yelled up stairs to the ol'lady..."honey the race is almost over....get that gay porn tape out... the one with the guy that has the huge _________! I'll warm up the astro glide! they turned red, said 'ok well I'll come back another time".....[}:)] 0 -
On another website I used to frequent there is a moderator who is Morman and tried to convert me over the internet a few times. 0
