What to do when the Mormon's come around?????
I was sleeping today, I have to work tonight. About 2pm there's a knock on the door. I throw on some athletic shorts, no shirt, and look out the window in the door. Smiling back at me are 2 young mormon men. Awww, crap they already saw me. So I open the door, it's like 20* outside. My dog is going nuts so I'm not letting them in, didn't plan on it in the first place. They talked to me about the Prophet, asked me if I have a belief of my own. (Remember, I discovered Christianity a little over a year ago?) I told them yes,......da...da...da...da...da... They said they could come back later, "What is a good time?" I said, it's pretty much hit or miss as I work a wierd shift.
What do I say when they come back?

Next time answer the door in boxers and a wife beater while holding a shotgun. I doubt they'll bother you again. 0 -

Tell them you aren't interested, but you'll go to church with them after they go to church with you. Had a friend try that and he didn't get bothered by them ever again.[:D] 0 -

Mormons are not anti-gun. I was raised Mormon. They are a good church as far as supporting family values and such. I personally have nothing against the mormon church, I just quit going to church.
Of course my smokeing and such would not be welcomed there either.0 -
I could just be honest and tell them that alcohol and mountain dew are like mothers milk to me, so I would make a pretty p*$$ poor Mormon [:D] 0 -
You could have the little wife answer the door in something revealing..... 0 -
I've heard if you tell them you're Jehova's Witness and you'd been hoping they'd show up so you could talk to them -- they'll leave quickly and not come back. 0 -
Just say, "Want to get in on the gangbang my wife is having?" 0 -
I work nights, too. Had a couple women used to come around proselytizing until once when the dog woke me up barking in the middle of the afternoon (middle of the night for us 11 to 7:30 folks). Looked out the front bedroom window and saw a new Cadillac (What is it with the brand new luxury cars with these people, anyway? Sell that and donate the money to your cause and you won't have to hit me up for a "donation" for your Watchtower or whatever else you're handing out.) in my driveway, about then heard someone pounding on the wall at the end of the house. Guess the dog kept them off the porch. Walked out to the porch gate buck naked. They got in the car pretty quick. Never saw them again. Told the wife about it when she got home from work. She said it was mean, but she had to laugh. Don't know how well that would work with the male tract handers, though. 0 -

visitors a nose ride back to their car...never to be seen again.[:)][8D]0 -
Mormons are far from anti-gun. Utah has some of the best gun laws in the country. As far as Mormons in general, they are actually very nice people. I had a lot of Mormon friends when I lived in Arizona. Just tell them you are not interested, they will leave. 0 -
I have to say every Mormon I've met has been extremely nice. They seem to be good folks. I personally don't agree on all their religous views but they are always nice.
I remember my father would love it when other religous folks would come by the house trying to convert him. He would invite them in sit down and pull out his bible and debate and debate.....and debate. He found it extremely enjoyable. Now my sister does the same thing. Makes me laugh pretty good.0 -
I find that it's a great opportunity to pass along the literature I've received from previous door knocking religious groups and/or a copy of L. Ron Hubbard's "Dianetics" that I pick up at yard sales just for these types of occasions.
Disclaimer; All joking aside,I would like to add that the Mormons that I have known were some of the most upstanding folks I have had the pleasure of dealing with.0 -
Good folks with strong values but often a bit too extreme for my tastes. The young men who drop by are always polite so we are also polite when we tell them that we are not interested. When the new Mormon temple finished construction here in Newport Beach a few years ago we took the tour before it was dedicated (it is not considered to be a holy site before that time) and I was impressed with the design and quality of construction. 0 -
I'm mormon. never went on a mission but my brother did. please just remember mormon missionaries pay upwards of $10,000 out of their own pocket and give 2 years of thier lives. their not out there for fun, they really belive in what they teach. just be polite and say "not interested"
my brother has many stories of being chased by gun wielding Hondurans.the lessen... just be nice.0 -
Tell them you are not intersted and invite them to church. 0 -
I haven't been visited in a long while. But one time many years ago, same knock on the door. No two guys but a really hot chick. She was very charming too. I just stood there mesmerized. Didn't hear a thing she said but stared at her the whole time. Felt kinda bad blowing her off, but I'm guessing she would have wanted me to convert before we....well, you know.
FWIW, I wouldn't have let her faith stand between us. At least not laying down! [:D]0 -
After moving to Iowa from Illinois in 1967, we had a preacher stop by all the time to try and talk us into going to his church. One day as we were helping Dad get the cultivater hooked up to the tractor he stopped by for a visit. Of course we were busy and Dad was wanting to get to the field. That's when the preacher asked, where did you boys get your red hair from. My older brother spoke up and told him, "the milkman or the mailman, we don't know which." That was the last time that preacher ever came to visit. [:0][:D] 0 -

I have nothing against other religions, I don't plan on being rude. I just didn't know what the best way to tell them was. Thanks for the replies.0 -
tell them thank you, but you're a new christian and you don't feel comfortable getting talked into something entirely different right now.
or something along those lines. tell them what you think. if you're not comfortable, you're not comfortable.0 -
I don't think they're all that pushy. Just say, "No thanks, not interested." 0 -
John Browning was a Morman. His father, who taught young John gunsmithing, had several wives. 0 -
I politely inform them that I'm not interested and ask the they not return. So far I've done that once with the LDS missionaries and once with the JW's. So I guess they've crossed out address off their list. We'll see.
In a former life, I told them that since I wouldn't buy a vacuum cleaner from a door-to-door salesman, I Damn Sure wouldn't buy God from them.
I've mellowed.0 -
i do not get rude unless they just cannot take the hint, and even then i am only rude by warning them i will be rude, i respect them for pounding the ground on there belief
btw, it is not just Mormons0 -
I have some interest in learning about alternative religious philosophies, so I talk(listen) to them for awhile. 0 -

I didn't think about that, are they anti-gun?
The ones I worked with were far from anti-gun. Different organizations (religions and non-religious) have different sales techniques. If going door-to-door didn't work to some degree then they wouldn't do it and neither would the vacuum salesmen out there. There is a polite way to say "no" and they don't mean you harm. I don't know why people get wrapped around the axle by religious folk that are trying to share something that they find fulfilling in their lives.
Tell them that you find the Old and New Testaments to be the only revelations of God that are acceptable to you and that it would be wiser of them to speak with someone that was more open to the subject of their more latter day revelation (Book of Mormon).
We as humans generally have a natural tendency to be polite and people in general don't like to say "no" to folks who have good intentions. This is just one of those circumstances. If you don't want to listen to them then think of them like that guy who wants to sell you the $2,000 vacuum cleaner. You'd be surprised at the number of folks who fork over that kind of cash after the salesman cleans their carpet with one of them.0 -
Particularly women. 0 -
We have friends... Both Mormons and Jehovas. Neither have ever been anything but polite. I value their friendship deeply.
The Mormons were neighbors and asked if we'd be offended to speak to their missionaries. No problem as far as I was concerned. I'd read the Book of Mormon out of curiosity and came to the conversation somewhat armed in advance. When they asked what I though of their philosophy I answered truthfully... Good story! We then agreed to agree on most tenents of faith and continued to disagree on Mormon.
Our Jehova friends... Very nice people. Too nice in many ways. I refuse to turn my cheek in some situations. Guns are a tool and I wouldn't hesitate to use one should I need to defend myself. And there are other things, but I can see their point of view.
Bottom line is that we've all decided that our root beliefs are very similar even though we pursue them in slightly different ways. After all, isn't the most important commandment instructing us to treat our fellows as we would wish to be treated? Aren't we told that if we followed that one rule, then everything else would fall into place?0 -
