Best .22 Target Pistol
Hey Guys I need your opinion. What is one of the best and most accurate .22 pistols. I have heard myself Colt woodsman match target, is this true or is there a better one out there? any help would be great

What are your budget and definition of target?
If you're looking to compete, you can't go wrong with an upper-end High Stndard. But it's gonna cost a lot more than the Ruger MKII.0 -

Accuracy really depends on the nut behind the trigger. Some shoot a revolver more accurately than a semi auto. Personaly, I think the Ruger MK II is about as accurate as they come. 0 -
I found the Colt Woodsman Match Target to be the best. The S&W 41 is very good too, but I prefered o Colt over it. The 41 is very expensive to boot, not that a CWMT is not. The Ruger, to me at least, has the poorest grip and contols. Browning makes a very reasonably priced Buckmark target model and it has an excellent trigger.
I'd suggest a Colt or a Browning. The Browning is much easier to find, but the Colt is a collector classic...a toss up.0 -

i think the 41 is over rated.
hi std had its bad times for a few reasons. follow the scenero:
war ends. contracts lost.
factory moves to expand civilian production.
new huge factory, doing well.
city increases fees and taxes on company. bills increase.
55 flood hits conn..
41 comes out and takes 1/2 the orders.
high std builds 1911 frame to win back crowd.
investors change hands.
new investors cut corners, quality goes down.
city forces hi std out of town by shutting off utilities.
company moves again.
company lays off skilled workers and sub contracts key work to small firms outside factory.
QA lost.
firm folds.
worn out machines sold.
inventory sold.....
10 years later
company buys old stock and old machines back.
sets up in texas.
picks up production where old one left off.
poor quality prevails.
some limited skilled labor still around hold firm together.
company realizes unless it does something right, it will fail.
improves customer relations.
hires new skill and current skill starts to get it right.
product improves.
company now in catch up mode.
world market hits usa.
euro guns are less money and better quality.
americans shop and buy euro guns being marketed here more than ever.company diversifies to stay alive.
enters into centerfire and milspec contracting again.
focus on match pistols takes back seat.
ever hear of a slippery slope?
all the time the 41 was never discontinued. skilled labor and machine upgrades kept it going and customers never missed a beat. major flaws never mentioned about the 41. most match shooters dont like them for the evil slide lock and safety switch engaging during firing.

Browning Buckmark,gold bull barrel, gold trigger, Swedish red dot with extra fine red dots. It can shoot flys off a 50 yard target and a golf ball is never a miss at 50 yards. Shoot squirrels always in the head with it at 50 yards plus. Unbelievable accuracy. Better than most rifles. Same hole shooting at 50 yards. [8)] 0 -

I have one of the first MKI Bull bbl's, that I'm afraid to guess how many rounds has been through it, and it still makes groups like that.[^]0 -

I know.. I have a Govt. Target 6 7/8 bull barrel. Of course Rugers can't shoot accurately..[:o)]0 -
I own many of those mentioned here,all can outshoot me.One night a guy showed up to shoot at one match with the wrong gun,I loaned him my HD military and used my S&W 41, he beat me by 1 point. I came in second that night. Normally I will beat this guy everytime by a good margine. 0 -
how many bolts did you use to bolt the gun vise down to the table for that 3 hole shot?[B)][:p][:D]
big difference between vised accuracy and OFFHAND.[:I]0 -
I don't really know what the "best" is, but I really like my Ruger 22/45 MKII Target.

Just think how good your Ruger will shoot if you do a little trigger work and use match ammo. [:0][:0] I don't own a vise or sandbags. 0 -
the point is any pistol vised in a bench vise can do that. and most do.
what matters is when its in your hand being held. THATS when design and balance seperate a good 22 from the BEST.
you know me, i dont flame. point is, your pic is a pic of 3 shots in the same hole with no target. great! 30 yds even! but you didnt say what other circumstances were involved. please note my target. its tagged 'benched 25yds." which means i held the gun in my hand on the bench and shot it.
the others are various 9 and 10x's....OFFHAND practice.
two kinds of common 22 matches are done in usa these days....indoor reduced target and outdoor full score.
if our poster is going to shoot for real....50yds is normal. its at that yardage the men get seperated from the boys. HIGH STANDARDS are right at home at those distances. and too what comes into play is sunlight and shade which call for easy to adjust sights that dont need 2 different screwdrivers to adjust...with a magnifying glass.(ruger.) thus my point....which is hopefully understood.
i stand by high standards. they are A FABULOUS TOOL that have brought me fame and fortune. my talents gone now, but the guns are is still capable of PROFESSIONAL RESULTS without needing trigger jobs.

fyi...a group is 10 shots. where did the other 7 go?[:I] heck i can shoot one shot and say...5 went thru there too. many camp perry cheats try that trick in matches. they blow a clover leaf out of the x with 5 shots and shoot 5 in the dirt and call it 10x....[;)]0 -
