My God GRD! What are you doing? Not long ago you were singing Uncle Ted's praises as the best thing since sliced white bread for gun owners! Good to see you coming around. I have said all along that Ted is nothing more than a draft dodging media shill. And I still believe that.

Kevin, He doesn't care because he is now one of the "Elite" himself and has been for a long time. He is a caricature of his former self. If it doesn't affect his rating or income, I doubt if he cares a lick.

I haven't heard a word from him on the latest assault on the 2nd Amendment.

The NRA's actions on this bill where not even close to Ted's preaching!

But I guess he has to go along to continue to get that big pay check from them![:(]

GRD, Ted doesn't post. It is one of his moderators. You were right in what you did, too bad it will probably get POOFED before many can see it.

    Good for you, Kevin.
I'm not renewing my 5yr NRA membership when it expires in a few months. The NRA sold out the VETs.

My question is, since they backed this law...What law will they back next? An AWB, hi-cap mag ban, non-sporting gun ban????

I lost faith in the NRA.

Now you will be real proud!

Here is another comment from me!

The 2nd says "SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This new bill that the NRA supported was started by the brady people! It will take guns from many veterans!

These veterans (includeing myself) have served our country with pride! Many paying a high price!

That is more than half the people on this board can say (includeing Ted!)!

In laymens terms, can someone tell me exactly why they dont like this bill? When I read the whole thing, all I got from it was people with diagnosed mental problems in their life wont be able to buy guns. My mother has worked with the mentally ill for over 30 years now and she can tell you that there is no help for these people. As long as they stay on their meds., they are better but they are still not quite right.
I may be missing the point of this bill so please explain it to me.

The problem with this bill is who(Gov't agents/Got't doctors/Gov't supported doctors)gets to decide whom(you, me)is mentally ill.

With all due respect, forklift, is your mom a doctor? If so, that is the first time I have heard this prognosis from a professional in the mental health field. While it's true that some people inherit genes that give them the proclivity to mental disorders, some disorders are caused by outside influences. Many people with mental disabilities find their illness subsides with age. Some to the point that they have to take no or little medication at all. My middle daughter is bipolar, or manic/depressive. She has fought this for about 15 years. She is currently raising two of the sharpest, most well adjusted children I have ever known. While she has been hospitalized on more than one occasion, she has never been considered a threat to herself or anyone else. As time goes on, she has learned to deal with this and is on less and less medication.
My point is, those who need hospitalization for mental illness aren't locked up in the "looney bin". Many if not most go on to live normal productive lives. However, thanks to 2640, they will never be allowed to own a firearm.

You betch we're going to take all the guns away from Veterans. I mean they know how to fight and kill, If and when nessesary.
They under stand weapons, they under stand what freedom means more then most folks. (most having been to other countries.)
Just who is the most dangerous group of people in the U.S. of A.?
Who will be the first to fight? Who will lead this revolt?(some collage student) I think it will be a Vet. and I'm going to be one of the volinteers that fall in behind him. Congress will comand the gov. forces,( like they did in Nam)lol their forces are 90 percent tied up already.) Every body will want to lead that keystone cop comidy, or nobody with a brain.

like i said in another thread, this will be basterized like homeland security has been, sign up for AA, get marriage counseling, people on certain meds will be affected in the long run, and it will no longer be a matter of who is mentally ill, you will have to prove your sane

I've had the good fortune to have a friend who has been one of the directors for the NRA for well over the twenty years that I have known him. I have never met a man who has done more for promoting the rights of American citizens to own and bear arms than this individual. I am of the opinion, too, that he managed to do this by bearing the cost assoiciated with such a position - either way, citizens do not come any more dedicated to this end than those like him.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not stumping for the NRA here, but I very seriously doubt that any one GB member has done more for protecting our rights to own and bear arms. And, I seriously doubt than any of us have done a better job in raising our children to follow suit where this aim is concerned. Further, those who would foster the old conquer and divide tactics that would injure those who share most of the same beliefs, might want to re-think how we as citizens, can ever become united and defeat the "real" enemies of freedom who would disarm us, when we fight among ourselves.

Regarding the subject bill, 2640, here's a post that if you have not read it, you might find as newsworthy in that it broadens your knowledge, and very interesting as to some specifics you might not have read about:
    http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=278210

Actually, this is just the revision to the Instant Check System that has been discussed on this forum before.

Many people opposed the bill on the grounds that it would take gun rights away from veterans. That was a lie. In fact, it had mandatory provisions that would restore gun rights for many veterans previously unjustly fingered as mentally ill.

The VA sent the names of several thousand vets who had been diagnosed with PTSD to the Justice Department in violation of the original Instant Check System Bill. The new bill forbids that and requires that corrective information be sent to Justice, and that Justice act upon it in a timely manner to remove these unjust disabilities.

If you recall, the Brady Bill (1993) established the background check. It was under Bill Clinton that the worst abuses of that bill were perpetrated. Under Bush, the VA is forbidden to inform Justice of simple diagnoses. They are required to follow the letter of the law.

So the charge that a new gun control law has been passed is false. Just the opposite is true: an existing gun control law has been modified in favor of gun rights.

    Sorry, computer glitch...had to edit.

    Kimi,
I've been a member of the NRA since '80...but no more.

The NRA's backing of this bill is what's crazy.

This bill is a travesty not only the VETs but anyone who may have the misfortune of going off the "deep end". One episode is all it takes.

Anyone here on this forum can be Baker-Acted by a LEO should a tragic incident in their life trigger an emotional episode...like the loss of a child, spouse, job or PTSD in the case of VETs. However brief this episode may be...you loose your gun ownership rights forever.

The arbitrary nature of the legal mumbo jumbo in the bill can be construed any which way and interpreted to adjudicate anyone as "mentall ill".

Our government can not be trusted, our government agents...doctors included can not be trusted.

This bill is wrong for many reasons.

The NRA is the one who initiated the division amongst gun owners...not the other way around.

    Kimi;
Please ask your 20 year friend which federal gun control laws he agrees with.
Does he view "Shall not be infringed" to include ANY Federal laws ?

How about you ? Care to put that on record ?

Speaking for myself, I don't support any. Is the foregoing statement direct enough for you to understand and endorse, Highball? And, actually, I don't think my friend supports any either. So, if my friend has been on the losing side of any battle to this end, should he just up and quit, and cry like a baby?

Tell me Highball, if you had been a NRA director, and you were in a battle to save our right to own and bear arms that failed, would you and quit your post as an NRA director? If you did, what would you do? Wouuld you up and cry like a baby? Would you start an organiztion to fight for our gun rights? Would you slam other people who have devoted their lives to the NRA? Would you tell their children, millions of whom wrote essays in every school they ever attneded to educate the student body and facullty on their right to own and bear arms shall not be infringed, that they were Anti-Americans? Just what the hell would you do fellow?

Ever heard of Neal Knox ?

THAT is what I would do..Fight it in public. Fight it to the bitter end..IN PUBLIC.
NO COMPROMISES..NO GIVEAWAYS.NO BACKING AWAY FROM THE SECOND AMENDMENT.
That good enough for YOU, Kimi ?
Want to cry awhile, because some of us refuse to compromise, Kimi ?

Tell me Highball, if you would fight it in public, why doesn't Fox, CNN and the like have your fight on camera? I stand to be corrected, of course, post a video here at GB to show us wht the media has been negligent in reporting. No problem, I'm easy to get along with, but like Missourians, show me! A video will do.

Uh, and if you think posts on GB compares with the good that millions of people actively invplved in educating their communities, young and old alike, you need to re-think the results of your efforts.

I, Kimi, am not your friend of twenty years...the guy with the megaphone in the NRA.

    Kimi,
I have seen Neal Knox (GRHS) speak, the news never covered it. If you think any of the major news medias are going to cover anything with any depth that does not aligin with their point of view you are saddly mistaken.

Thanks for the info you stated but it still did not answer my questions. If a person is on meds. for any mental illness, they dont need to own firearms. The meds. may make them balanced, but what could happen if they quit taking them? Who can insure me as a U.S. citizen that those people wont stop taking their meds.?

Now we are communicating Highball. FWIW, I admire and appreciate the burning patriotism that you show frequently where the protecting of our rights to own and bear arms is concerned. It is not my intent to diminish your accomplishments in the least. I also appreciate the efforts of other people who fight for the same purpose. Many of whom might disagree with me to some extent for whatever reasons, but I have not yet reached a zero tolerance level for other people who might disagree with me on an issue or two.

Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones Highball, and the Happiest of New Years, too!

    None of your business..as a U.S. citizen.

What IS your business is securing your A.O...being armed well enough and trained enough to take out some perp that is a threat to you and yours.
THAT, friend, is the way it should be.

    Kimi,
You either miss what "shall not be infringed" means or you purposly are not being honest.

When the NRA "comprimises" WE are the ONLY ones giving ANYTHING up. The left wing wacko are the ONLY ones that GAIN a footing.

WE would have been better OFF to either win the fight or lose it. NO comprimise, at all, anytime. Neal's son Jeff, in the recent SGN, just put that to print.

Personally I think it would have put an end to the fight RIGHT THERE. The anti gun agenda now is in motion, because of COMPRIMISE on gun owners part. The gunners gave the anti's reconition that they were "right" somehow. NOW we have to contend with the beast WE helped create, either by destroying it all together, or allow it to destroy US. Remember the anti's agenda EXISTS BECAUSE WE GAVE THEM A FOOT IN THE DOOR.

As long as we continue to accept the NRA's comprimise, and we continue to allow the anti's to push their agenda, we will have gun control.

It has to stop SOMEWHERE Kimi, and people are getting smarter. The dues are stopping. We DEMAND our rights back. People are getting ready to "show" the political scum bags where we stand.

Can you feel it in the air yet? Can you hear the fife playing in the distance? It may be faint, but it's getting louder.

It was said long ago that LIBERTY was NOT a gaurentee of saftey.

It was also said that those that would give up a little liberty for saftey deserve NEITHER.
