    STOP THE PRESS!

"It has nothing to do with being allowed...it is a God given RIGHT, acknowledged by our Constitution."

First thing, the 2nd Amendment is not a God right! God did not include this in the 10 commandments, that everyone shall have and carry a gun for protection. It is a right formulated by our founding fathers who constructed the Constitution. Now, that being said, I believe that the sole purpose ofthis string was to get everyone wound up. I see that it is working. Continue arguing.

One must be a clown or some sort of joker to come on a pro gun site such as this and make an anti second amendment post like you did.

    Clear enough?

God says we can be armed anywhere and anytime.

The Bill of Rights says we can be armed anywhere and anytime.

We firmly believe that we can be armed anywhere and anytime.

Judge Smith, you know, the one who regularly donates to the Brady Campaign, will likely see it otherwise if you get busted packing in a prohibited area.

When I lived in Ohio there was a judge who just loved to give people caught carrying (OH had no legal carry at that time) the maximum sentence. Of course, now being convicted felons these people could not even touch a gun legally let alone carry one. Even the anti-gun local paper editorialized about how this judge was too harsh on otherwise law-abiding people who got caught packing illegally.

It's a tough choice. If I am killed by a criminal because I am unarmed then my life is over. If I become a convicted felon my life is also over. The chance I will need a gun on any particular day, very low. Chance I will get busted for packing illegally, also very low but I think greater than being in a gunfight in the post office.

You have to do what you think is best. I think the odds on needing a gun at a wedding, or a child's birthday party, or a baby shower, or Disneyland are so low that I really don't worry much about being unarmed in these venues. But I have read on forums from people who adamantly state they will not go to these places unarmed for fear of criminal attack.

A child's birthday party? A baby shower? If I were that paranoid I would never leave the house.

Of course, I have read many posts stating that a gun is worn even while relaxing at home (someone above said every waking moment). Got stainless for the shower? If I felt that unsafe in my home I would work on improving home security. Or move to a better area. I have guns available in the house but on me while watching TV? Hardly.

We can say the law is wrong but the fact is if we get arrested the law will destroy our lives. Reality is a bitch.

Well, when you keep a NAA mini in your pocket all day long, what's a few more hours before bed while I watch TV, make supper, etc....?

Sadly that is what is taught in schools today. Even more sadly this is what most people believe today. What you are saying is the "Right to keep and bear arms" is granted by the government. If you are correct and the government is where the right comes from, then the Brady Bunch is correct when they say the government has the power and the "RIGHT" to remove it.

I'm of the opinion that all the rights in the Bill of Rights preexisted the Constitution. The Founding Fathers only recognized that those rights existed and guaranteed them in the Constitution.

Those that have no belief in God cannot have a higher power then man.

Therefore, given that mindset, man is responsible for rhe BOR and Costitution.

What man giveth, man can take away..so any and all gun laws are merely the latest expression of what is good for us all..after all...what is good and what is bad changes according to the times...don't you know ?

"Rights" are merely the edicts of whomever is in power at the moment..not something granted by God.

"Rights" are merely the law of the jungle..nothing to do with 'right' or 'wrong'..concepts having no meaning to those denying God.

I for one am glad I believe in a higher power than man, because man cannot be trusted. God can! Why put your trust anywhere else? To put your trust in man is to put your trust in the Government.

Ask New Orleans how well that worked out for them.....

Your God given RIGHT is to self-defense with the means available in your time. For us, and the founders, that is firearms. End of story.

You and I well know that criminals will always get guns if they want them. But until we get the laws changed, if you or anyone else carries illegally and gets caught, you have now j in the eyes of society joined the criminal element. If you don't understand why that is undesirable, or you think it is even a good idea, then I pity you.

I understand why you would pity me. I do not agree with you on the infringement of RTKBA. That is a well known fact. Since I am on the right side of the argument, and have righteous indignation for the views you espouse, it is I who pity you.

I suspect yer just stirrin' the pot, but in the interest of those who may not have seen it, here's the best answer to the "why carry?" question I've ever seen:

"So," queried Snidely Snotworth III, lookin' down his un-busted but needed-bustin' nose, "Why do you think you have to carry a gun?"

"Well," bellowed the Brutish Neanderthal (that would be me): "Because you're not QUALIFIED to carry one. You haven't got the skills, the judgment, the sense of responsibility, or the courage for it."

    Sage,
I know that you are just trying to stir things up, (and you did apparently) but we would like to hear ONE good argument not to carry.

A person whos background has deamed him/her competent to carry only makes the environment around them safer.

Some, in fact many people carry concealed here in florida as it seems to be a replacement for something they are missing.. I dont know how many times and the number of guys just wating for the chance to "Flash" their concealed pistol just to let people know that they are macho. This usually happens when there are guns present at one of the markets around here.. My friend at the gun shop in the biggest flea market around here and I just shake our heads when people come in to look at guns and I guess trying to make themselves look important, "Flash" their gun to us as to say "Look at me" [:(]

I don't care about being macho, I care about staying alive and not having my life taken from someone who thinks he can do that. With the amount of crime going on in the last year around me I would not even go to the bathroom in my own house without a gun, with a break in and armed robbery happening almost once a week around here. Can't go to the mall without worrying about getting shot, can't go shopping, can't go out to eat, can't go to school, can't even watch TV in your own house without people breaking in and robbing everyone. Well I just dare them to try something with me. Anytime, anywhere, I say bring it. Nobody here will stand up to these punks, and they keep on with their crimes, well their last crime will be when they come after me.

It appears some of the members of this forum think they are special and should have privledges beyond common sense.

I read where someone would not leave his sidearm in the car when he goes into a McDonalds. Big deal.

If you have a legitimate reason, not your personal tough guy ego, fine but if you do it to feel superior you are not being fair to the other citizens of this country,

Being legally allowed to do something does not make it a good idea in all situations.

    Let the bitching begin.

I don't--YET--1. reason being I barely became a legal resident(had to wait 6 months) of WA to even apply and 2. I don't have a handgun that is concealable yet lol--would be difficult for me to hide a 6 1/2" Model 29 and in WA you must have the handgun on your person-not in the glovebox, center console etc.

I know this fella in an adjacent town that I had some business dealings with several years ago, it ended up in civil court. He was not pleased. He has confronted me several times over the last few years. I firmly believe that the only reason he has not assaulted me or attempted to assault me is that he knows I carry a concealed firearm everywhere I go. I can tell it really pisses him off because he is the typically school yard bully only now he is an adult, well physically he is an adult, mentally still a school yard bully.

One of these days he will push it to the point where I have to defend myself. I hope he grows up before that happens. It will not be pretty for him or for me.

I have observed all arguments so far in this thread, and it seems many who've posted have lost sight of the real issue at hand.

The right to defend oneself is not only a natural instinct, but one of the most basic of all rights. That right to defense exists not only in one's home, but wherever that individual may be at the time the need of defense arises; home, school, work, court, post office, fast food joint, etc. This right to defense does not exist for only a select few, but when the means of that defense is limited and/or regulated, it will only be the "select few" who have the capability of defending themselves.

example: a 5'11", 225 lb. male is confronted with a threat; for this scenario, we will say it is a 6'2, 300 lb. criminal who wishes to do our victim harm.

now, using that same criminal, let's say our victim is a 5'5" 125 lb. female. which victim will fare better defending themselves? i believe most on here would agree that it would be the male victim.

now, let's give the female a "tool", if you will, to execute the defense of herself. we'll say she has in her possession a S&W 19 .357 2". The difference in stature has now been eliminated from the equation, and our small frame female now stands a better than average chance of not becoming a statistic.

So this entire argument is really "common sense". You cannot, with fairness, lawfully regulate the means of defense without taking away the right of defense for some individuals.

I believe in following the law, but i also believe people have the right to defend themselves at any time and at any place, using whatever means they have at their disposal. The probability of having to defend oneself in certain venues may be low, but be that as it may, as long as a criminal element exist in our society, one must always be prepared to defend; at any time and at any place. To declare, "i will not carry my weapon at place X, because nothing is going to happen to me while i'm there." is an asinine logic. It is the same thing as saying, "i have 1/8 tank of fuel remaining, but i am not going to stop at this exit and fill up with gas because i know there will probably be another station further down the road, and i'll stop there." no, you don't know. you cannot be certain when and where a threat may present itself. granted, there are locations that are more conducive to having a threat or multiple threats present, and you knowingly avoid those areas if at all possible, and even though it would be absurd, to "clam-up" and stay at home all the time to avoid threats would not obliterate the possibilty of having to defend yourself. Just watch the news or read the newspaper; home invasions are on the rise, and seem to be a favorite MO of the criminal element. An indivdual that keeps a firearm or other means of defensive tool at arms reach, or even on or about their person while in their home, is not paranoid or a "fringe lunatic". They are smart in doing so, for although they are hoping for the best, they are preparing for the worst.

i know my post has been long, but i believe it explains why individuals should lawfully be able to carry, at any place and at any time, without a governing body weighing in.

I am very fortunate in many ways.
I survived a SD situation many years ago, way before CCW and I carried even then.
I have spent the past 20 plus years as a full time instructor for civilian and law enforcement primarily teaching "the use of deadly force"
I helped to write and then get passed the CCW in my state and continue to this day on a committee getting reciprosity agreements with other states.
I have helped several thousand students of every age, religion, sex, race etc to get their CCW permits.
I am the only civilian instructor to purchase the "firearms simulator" for civilians and spent a lot of money to have civilian scenarios made for their training. I also train law enforcement with it but there are libraries full of their scenarios.
The other fortunate thing is that I now have letters, phone calls and tapes from my students who have had to use or threaten deadly force in order to save themselves or loved ones. The true beauty is they also survived their encounters. Not all of them unscathed, but alive and able to let me know and to continue their lives as normally as possible.
The one thing that has wrung true for myself and all those who have contacted me with their stories is that their was NO DAMNED TIME TO THINK. Everything that happened was so fast, horrible, unexpected etc that all I or they could do is react. They did what they had to do literally without thinking, as they had no time to think.
So here's my take for what its' worth. Many of you talk about carrying or having your chosen tool, (weapon) readily available.
Remember hearing about having nightmares after surviving a SD situation.
I have something similar, it is the thought or trying to imagine WHAT I could possibly have done if I had had no way to at least try to stop my attacker. What if I had not had my weapon immediately ready to use. THAT thought is the most terrifying thing there could possibly be.
So other than I think this guy may be what you computer gurus call a troll I will say "if you do not have your weapon at exactly that nano second in time, you may never need anything, ever again". If you are serious about being able to defend yourself, you will find a way to have it with you. As others have said, when there are signs posted for no weapons, you have a choice. Mine is to go some other place or because my gun is "concealed", I go in and do what business I have to do and leave and no one is the wiser. Yes, I even carry to church. I am the only one who knows, and I am very comfortable with it.
I just wish I could possibly give this the feeling I would like to convey. But I hope also that it helps to make a point without being argumentative.
