My daughter was threatened by scum bag druggies.
Until they were prosecuted and jailed I chose to protect her everywhere we went.
    Even McDonald's.

Too bad no citizen was carrying his concealed weapon this day...

I thought it was sick that his widow sued McDonalds because her husband ate food there and that the MSG in it was partially to blame for him going nuts! I also remember the shooting at Luby's in TX in 1991.

The name of this post is "Carry Fanatics", right of the bat I was Pzzd of, but upon further refection, I guess I am fanatical about the RIGHT to carry and I guess I'm proud of that. Ruger41 makes a point...why should we have to have it concealed? Is it because society has decided it is impolite to carry? If we didn't have them hidden, alot of problems wouldn't get started in the first place. "An armed society is a polite society".
    For what it's worth.

Well please enlighten me then. I do understand that keep means just that--to posses. Bearing arms is to bring forth and extend in a direction indicated(to fire at an enemy) But it does not say anything about concealing them. Now I will agree with you that I belive it should be a given that if you can own a gun you should be able to carry it any darn way you please. I'm just saying the constitution does not say it--that is why the individual states have laws regarding concealed carry.
Don't know where you get that meaning out of "bear", keep and bear means to HAVE and CARRY, not "bring to bear", unless you are riding around in a tank or battleship. That is some convoluted thinking. The Constitution does not include wording for every situation, our founders didn't think people would be so dense that they could not see the straightforward and simple meaning of what they were saying. Stop trying to make it so complicated. "----the right of the PEOPLE (us, citizens) SHALL ( mandatory, not maybe) NOT (problem with that?) be INFRINGED (encroach upon a right)." Read the Federalist Papers.

I just do not understand the idea's that the right to keep and bear arms...weather it is carrying concealed, open or keeping something in the vault is a privilege? If one does not have it on him, how can he be of service to protect his life, or that of an innocent bystandet? Lest we forget Killeen, VA Tech, and how many others that the rules were no one was supposed to carry? Appearantly the bad guy did not abide by the rules.

I'm sorry--I guess I was just being a lil nitpicky with wording which I should not be so apt to do. I totally agree with and understand that the 2nd Amendment means what it says--I just belive it has nothing to do with carrying CONCEALED--that is something that is specified by individual States is all. Sometimes I wish the Founding Fathers had been a little more blunt when they wrote the 2nd. Something along the lines of All citizens may own, carry openly or concealed, buy, sell and use in defense of our country or against tyrannical governments and to defend their life & property against criminals: FIREARMS. [:D] But the founders were much smarter men than I could ever hope to be-just wish our politicians today were more like them.

It appears some of the members of this forum think they are special and should have privledges beyond common sense.
Beyond common sense??? It would be beyond common sense to have the means to defend yourself and your family locked away in a car when the need could be immediate. That would be the height of stupidity. SPECIAL Darn right, I am special and my family is special and my friends are special and all life is special and deserves to be protected.

I read where someone would not leave his sidearm in the car when he goes into a McDonalds. Big deal.

I read where someone did leave her sidearm to go into a cafeteria and then was forced to watch helplessly while her parents (and many others) were shot and killed- YEAH BIG DEAL

If you have a legitimate reason, not your personal tough guy ego, fine but if you do it to feel superior you are not being fair to the other citizens of this country,

If you carry because of a need to feel superior or a 'tough guy ego', maybe you shouldn't even own a firearm - think about it.

Being legally allowed to do something does not make it a good idea in all situations.

    Let the bitching begin.

    SWage 1

I think that the carry fanatic under discussion here is Sage1 (or is it SWage1) and the fanatcism is a fear of others who might feel safer if they are able to exercise their God-given rights.

    Sage,

I see no reason to call people who always carry, "carry fanatics." I know people who always wear their seatbelts when they drive - no one calls them fanatics. I know people who always wear helmets when working on a construction site - no one calls them fanatics.

Taking precautions doesn't make you a fanatic and it only seems to be this militant pacifism inherent in the politically correct that demonizes firearms and the carrying of firearms.

People who carry generally have no more wish to draw upon and kill a fellow human being than a man with car insurance wants to get into a wreck.

And why wouldn't carrying a gun in all situations be a good idea? Did I miss a memo telling the rest of you where and when the criminals, the deranged, the disgruntled, and violence prone would strike? Using a gun is not a good idea in all situations. Carrying one has no more moral implication to it than carrying a pocket full of change.

Ha! We FOUND a pistol in McDonalds! After a little league game we stopped in @ McD's. Went in the restroom first and there was a Colt 32 pistol sitting on the toilet tank. I just slipped it into my coat pocket and had my dinner.

    That's where I left it.

Been looking all over for it.

Do ever take your batteries out of your smoke alarms cuz you think that maybe that night you won't need them? Carrying a firearm is a personal protection issue, not some tough guy facade. I carry everywhere it's legal to do so.

I am not aware of the "locations legal to carry" portion of amendment 2. Could you please direct me to it?

quote:It is not a constitutional right to carry CONCEALED arms-no where in that US document does it say or infer that(the right to keep and bear arms... that means posses and use them). Under state law if a person meets the criteria to carry concealed then it is granted.

So "bear arms" excludes my pocket? That's a new one. This "state grants a privelege" thinking is sickening in America!

quote:Bearing arms is to bring forth and extend in a direction indicated(to fire at an enemy)

I am REALLY starting to wonder if you should even have guns!

    Bear: to carry, support.

Ruger41, you can't have it both ways. Which is it? The second means wht it says, or the privelege (an infringement) is doled out by the state?

Sage, sell your self-defense weapons. You would not have the nerve to use them, and they would end up being used ON you.

It is your choice HM. Have you noticed the ever increasing number of bad guys? Seems they are not too afraid of the DA and the judge anymore.

BTW, the statement in your signature line seems an appropriate one for this subject, don't you think?

The bad news is I live in anti Illinois,[:(] so you guys that get to carry count your blessings.

If I can't carry I am not going in (exceptions being my kids school or a government building and such).

It is not that I am a fanatic. I just feel that it is my right and that I should be allowed to carry were I please.

Didn't a McDONALDS get shot up a few years back? Got robed or something [:(], would hate for my gun to be safely locked up in my car while I was being shot/robbed/whatever.[:(!]

I had a carry permit for years and I generally carried. Minnesota then changed the law requiring applicants to take a class and pay a hefty fee. I started thinking about it, I took the class but didn't apply. By applying for a permit you legitimize the governments claim that to carry is a privlege and not a right. I have no doubt I would be granted a permit but I choose instead to carry on occasion in violation of an unjust, and in my opinion, unconstitutional law. Dave

I understand and have sympathy for your position. But I would not do it that way. If you are filthly rich and can afford to hire an army of lawyers to fight for your rights when/if you get caught illegally carrying a firearm, then you are probably doing the right thing. But the average person cannot afford such a luxury as to break laws that are unjust and then suffer the consequences when caught. One consequence might be that after getting caught you might have a record that will forever prevent you from not only getting a concealed carry licens, but possible from owning guns altogether.

When and if that happens, we have just lost another lawful gun owner from our ranks. Such things make the anti-gun crowd happy.

i was criticized in a previous post about carring my weapon everywere.as i stated the only place i wont take it is in the court house because of metal detectors. IF IT IS CONCEALED YOU CANT SEE IT. nobody will know.better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6

Yeah, metal detectors are the only thing that stop me from carrying into place.

FYI....Atlanta Aquarium has metal detectors. Had to run back to my car real quick that day.....
