I don't understand how young people think!
When Josh and Sandy were on their trip to New York for New Years, Josh got a ticket. I didn't find out about it until last night.
I asked him how much it was, and he said he didn't know and wasn't going to pay it. Seems his buddy Steve told him to just forget it becuase they weren't going to extridite him back to New York over a traffic ticket.
I told him to find out how much it was before it went to a warrent situation and at least doubled, and I would pay it.
What's wrong with young people these days!

Most of them just have to learn the hard way. I think all the states are in the compac now. If so, they will suspend his license for failure to pay traffic ticket if he doesn't pay it. 0 -

I don't think Texas will do that, but I do know that most insurance companies will either raise you rates or drop you if tou have a warrent out for an unpaid ticket in any state. 0 -

Texas is a member of the Drivers License Compact States. Member of NRVC 1-82 & DLC 9-83. It will eventually show up on his driving record. However if a warrant is issued it is not extraditalbe. Insurance will most likely go up. 0 -

yep..dont pay it for him..let him learn the hard way that there are penalties for just ignoring these things...some people have to learn things the hard way, but as long as they learn there is no big problem...if he gets away with this, he will sooner or later try it with something else. 0 -

Years ago the wife and I went to Washingotn D.C. for a weekend. While there I got a parking ticket and thought the same thing, I'm never coming back to D.C. So I didn't pay it. Two months later I get a ticket in the mail. The original ticket was $50.00, the one in the mail was $100.00. I paid the second ticket with out even thinking about it. 0 -
maybe the up bring of the kids? as a kid when i did something wrong i got my ass beat and i dont mean a hand smack on the bottom with dont do that again. at age 21 my friends had a batchelor party for me (still living at home) i came home drunk, really got my ass beat and was grounded for a week. the trouble today is YOU CAN NOT DISCIPLINE YOUR KIDS with out getting into trouble. 0 -

What will happen is that his home state will not renew his drivers license until the ticket is cleared.
That is the only leverage that the other state has.0 -

That sounds wonderfully responsible, until you read the part about him ignoring it, and basically saying F*** you to authority, for a mistake he made.

His credit doesn't matter to him,........losing his license probably doesn't matter either.

I accidently entered a toll road a few years ago in Los Angelos and what would have been a .50 toll turned into a 130.00 ticket in the mail.
The rental car company charged my credit card for 20.00 to cover there end and I ended up calling the California toll people and explained that it was at 1am in the morning and I was lost, turned around on an overramp 1/4 mile up and went back the way I came.
She said if I wanted to pay 5.00 with my ccredit card right now she would help me out.
I couldn't rattle my card number off fast enough.
So it basically was a .50 Uturn that turned into a 130.00 fine that was reduced to 25.00

I agree with the majority here, you should not pay the ticket for him, loan him the money if he needs it, but don't pay the ticket.
People need tp learn the responsibility of there actions if not then they will never become adults. They may become old enough to buy liquire or vote, but they will be far from an adult.
We all know that part of becoming an adult is learning to pay the consequences of our action, we cannot run and hide under the bedcloths.
What happens the next time something serious happens in life, do you follow your previous actions, and hide again. Or do you stand tall and except the ramafications of your actions,
It's easy to hide from your duties, but if your are to become a man, you stand up and say it is I who did that and it is I who will except what the outcome of my actions.
Just tell him that it will cause you to think less of him by skipping the minor inconvience of paying HIS ticket, maybe it will give you cause to wonder what he would do under a more dire cercumstance.0 -

He might as well go ahead and contact the court where he got the ticket, find out how much the fine is plus any additional failure-to-appear fine or warrant fee (usually more than the amount of the original fine). He's going to end up having to pay this amount to NY in addition to the regular DL renewal fee to Texas when his current license expires.
Tell him to just go down to his local DL office and inquire or have a friendly LEO do it for him, he's not going to be arrested. They can run his DL and confirm that it's flagged "Renewal Denied".0 -
Danny, he is taking advantage of the fact that you are a generous person. And he knows you will pay it so he is going to act like he does not care because he knows it will kick in the part of you that will take care of it.
The long and short of it is he is a selfish human being that manipulates you on a regular basis. Shame on him for acting like a child and shame on you if you allow him to take advantage of you again.0 -

Wow, I guess I am lucky then.
I had to drive to Baltimore Maryland for my brothers wedding. He left his prepaid toll gizmo for me. I drove all the way from Maine to Baltimore using the prepaid lanes. When I returned home I found the gizmo on the kitchen table. I had forgotten to even take it.
I never got a single ticket. Since then I have also renewed my license with no problems whatsoever.
I was under the assumption that they were not going to try to prosecute for one or two passes but were really only prosecuting repeat offendors.0 -

My bad, for some reason I was thinking dheffley was an Illinois resident. Here we do a suspension instead of a cancelation.

When I was in the Navy I got a speeding ticket in California two days before I was scheduled to leave for Hawaii. I told the officer that I would pay the ticket and asked how I could handle it. He told me that I HAD to go to court. I tried to explain that I would NOT be able to and could he do anything to make it so that I could just pay my fine. He was a real rear-end and just gave me the ticket and walked away.
I made a few calls....but nothing was really done about it. I actually forgot all about the ticket. Months and months later I remembered about it....but I never did anything about it. It wasn't that I didn't want to, but I had a LOT going on at that time. Moving, getting a new duty station, being new in the military and being away from my family for the first time. I still don't know that anything could have ever happened regarding that speeding ticket....but I think 20 years later I can quit worrying about it.0 -

It may or may not be forwarded to your state even if you have reciprocity with NY. DWI's most always do, speeding maybe. Its better to take care of it, sure as you don't it will show up and he may not be able to renew his OL until its adjudicated. It can cost a lot more if you don't do it before court date. 0 -

While I understand and agree with your view of this matter, what would it say of me to not follow through on an agreement I made before the trip. I'm bound by that agreement. I was just surprised he didn't even tell me about it so I could pay.0 -

So it seems to me you just enabled him to break laws long as they weren't for speeding....things are starting to add up here0
