Best War Movie?

I just saw "A Walk In The Sun" last night (for about the 87th time) and I guess it's my favorite war movie. Star cast, gritty events and memorable characters.
It beats out my next in line for the title, "Yesterday's Enemy" . Stanley Baker is in a tough spot and it dosen't get better. See it if you didn't alreaady.
BTW, this has likely been covered a dozen times before - I just didn't see it.

    I just got done watching Full Metal Jacket for about the 600th tie and it got me thinking.I have seen a few good war movies and Im not sure which would be the best.I liked Sergeant York when I was a kidand then I got older and starting liking more of the Apocolypse Now type movies.There is one with Kirk Doglas that I liked but cant remember the name of I think it was also a Stanley Kubrick movie.Anybody know this one?With all of them out there am I missing any really good ones?My favorite so far seems to be Full Metal Jacket.I thought Saving Private Ryan was a little too sappy.Enemy at the gates was ok.But what is the best?Best acting/Most realism/Best Set and sound most accurate weaponry..etc...?

    "Zulu" and "The Longest Day" top my list,but "We Were Soldiers Once" is right up there. For the best anti war war movie I'd have to say that "Oh What a Lovely War" would take the cake. Beach.

    too many to say but as others have said i love "Band of Brothers"

    Gettysburg though is prob my all time favorite. when i was younger i had half it memorized

    like " We Were Soldiers", "saving Private Ryan" and other of the new batch of war movies. kinda like the gritty realism

    There are so many catagories, fictional, anti-war, drama, true, comedy, it's hard to name only one. I favor the true stuff, so The Longest Day and Tora,Tora,Tora take my top spot. Anti-war would be All Quiet on the Western Front with Lew Ayres. Drama would be The Boat with Twelve O'Clock High as first runner up. Fictional would be the newcomer Letters from Iwo Jima. Patriotic would be a toss up between The Green Berets and The Patriot with Mel Gibson. Major Dundee gets an honorable mention as just a good movie. For all time best screen production, I would have to pick Lawrence of Arabia with Judgement at Nurmberg at close second.
    If someone wants a really interesting character study with WWII as a backdrop, you would do well to view The Young Lions and Night of the Generals. Both are outstanding.

    I just saw a magazine that lists what they call the 100 best war movies. I didn't agree with many of their choises but I do agree with their #1 choise. The original version of All Quite on the Western Front.
    I don't understand how they could have left The Blue Max off their list.
