Ok one last thought the receiver may just be pinned the barrel as most 22 are drive out the cross pins ( in the right direction some L to R some are R to L then remover the receiver to gain access to the barrel then drill thru the dowel and 22 case from the breach end and get the hole big enough maybe a start with a small bit and work your way up a size or two each time with out getting into the metal of the chamber to basically allow you crush the case in on its self ( diameter down) with a punch or similar tool around the rim and then drive the dowel back out ?

I running out of ideas LOL

Absolutely no bullet. I saw the shot hit the target. I besides....the one piece of dowel I did get out came through the breech end....I inserted both into the barrel from the muzzle.

If you are positive it's all dowel, I would wait until you can get a piece of hardwood dowel (oak or maple), and drive it from the breach end. Sounds like you expanded it with the brass.

is the entire case out or just the end of it driven off and the brass case housing is formed around the wood locking it in ?

if its just the wood and no part of the case is left agree with the other fellows get a hard wood dowel and drive it out

seems odd the wood could be stuck with out the case holding it . unless you have a large dowel that has locked into the rifleing

just a joke .... last thought just box it up sent to me and you will not have worry about it LOL

So I'm spitballing but....if I were to spray both ends with on blaster and let it sit overnight do you think that would cause the wood that has wedged on both ends to pop back out towards the ends?

Do you think it would be better to get a brass rod this time that is dang near an exact fit?

I'm ready to grab a round, pull the bullet and powder and shot it out! (I mean, they do it on looney tunes all the time right?๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ).... joking of course.

Don't use liquid, it will cause swelling. If you can get brass just under the bore size that will be better than wood.

Yeah, guess I'll have to wait to get this one fixed until the weekend is over than....what a bummer!

Get a soft metal rod that just fits the bore. Use a sharp pair of dykes to cut the end off, leaving the shape of a slot-head screwdriver. Chuck the other end into your Dewalt. Put your shaped "cutting end" in the barrel and eat that dowel out of there. Grind, dump chips, repeat.

If we can nip off a pin to make a "cutter" and drill holes in our thumbnails to let blood out, then the concept ought to scale up to a rifle bore and dowel.

Get an appropriate diameter drill rod from here:

    McMaster-Carr
McMaster-Carr is the complete source for your plant with over 595,000 products. 98% of products ordered ship from stock and deliver same or next day.

And use that to hammer out the broken dowel rod.

I'd be tempted by your last comment - shooting it out with a 22 case of powder (no bullet!!!). I've dry balled (ball no powder) my muzzle loader and fed a couple grains of black powder into the nipple, recapped and shot the ball out.

Tape up a rod of steel and hammer away?

Hand torch and burn out the dowel . Stand it on end so heat goes up , Soak it in kerosene.

    Compressed air.

If you're going to try and shoot it out you can get .22 blanks from the hardware store that are used in nail setting guns. There are different power levels available.

Heat shrink tube to protect the bore on what ever you decide to use in the barrel

Yep, apparently some folks don't read all the comments in the order they are posted.

And don't use wood dowels in guns...

Now I have to figure out how to get the wood out!

    Have you considered termites?

So, if you just have a length of dowel stuck down in the pipe, you're going to want to try to twist it out (in the direction of the rifling) rather than just push because you have swollen the end that went into the case. You can try heating the bbl, as that will expand the metal and have little effect on the wood, but heating to the point of burning the wood is probably not the best idea. I would use a heat gun.

Don't use liquid lube as it will swell the wood. You might try graphite, however.

Firing a blank may not give the result you want. In a black powder gun, if you don't seat the bullet all the way down it's bad news, and it looks like you may have a gap between the case end and the obstruction. I dunno, 22lr isn't super powerful so it might not hurt anything. The blanks from the hardware store like NeoBlackdog suggested would work for that if you do go that route.

The wood is softer than your brass rod, and even though it's bent you might try sharpening the end of it and just using your drill to chip away at the wood.

Those are all the suggestions I have. Cheers.

Nobody likes my idea of turning a brass or aluminum rod into a drill? It's softer than the barrel so no damage, just nip the end of the rod off like a chisel point, put it in your Dewalt and drill the wood out.

yeah what nanuq said. Make the point of the rod narrower than it's full diameter. Flat point. Like a screwdriver. Narrower so it won't scratch the bore. If you can get the dowel turning you've won part of the battle. Hopefully you can push it out the chamber end and pull it the rest of the way.

I think this has a good chance of working.

This^^^ and before you do it, leave it in the freezer over night. You learned a lesson the hard way, you never sick wood in the bore. If and when you get it out, save the brass rod for the next stuck case. Just dropping it down the bore, muzzle up, never takes more than 2 to 3 tries.

Worse one I've ever seen was on a Mosin 91/30. By the time the kid realized he wasn't going to get it out, he had it packed in there like it had been done with a hydraulic press. Used a long drill bit with some nylon plastic sleeves to center in the bore, something like Ditch-Runner suggested, and got a lot of it out. Soaked it with alcohol and burned it out. What was left finally shrunk enough to drive out with a brass rod. Couple of dozen strokes with JB bore paste, and it was good as new. Time and labor to do it, more than the damned Mosin was worth!

Forget about all of those screws and cleaning rods and punches. Here's what you need to do. Squirt a bunch of JB Weld down there on the end of the dowel. Push another dowel down into the JB Weld. Let cure over-night. In the morning you will just be able to pull the whole mess out.๐Ÿ˜‰

Yep, I now have a more paranoid heads up about gunsmiths.

I think I have seen some guns that have had repairs attempted by some of these forum gunsmiths suggestions.

How to reduce the possibility of scope eyebrow cuts from a hard kicking Magnum rifle.

    for example: check this link

I think I have met this gunsmith

Use a coat hanger to pull the trigger after adding the extension
