florida shooting/ handicap parking/ stand your gro
Early this week in Florida a man was fatally shot about handicap parking dispute. Sheriff says "stand your ground" applies.

That makes it even dumber. A guy lost his life because he was yelling at someones family. And got shoved on his rear end. I guarantee most on here would say they would do the same if their wife was getting verbally abused. I have no idea how anyone can watch that video and defend the guy. I guess ill remain dense. I sure don't want to be in the crowd that thinks that shooting was ok. Pretty scary to me that anyone can think that way. The man that did the shooting was not protecting his life. This is the question you folks need to ask yourself that think this shooting was ok. If your son had come out and his wife was being yelled at for parking in a handicap parking spot. Your son pushed the guy like most would have done. The guy shoots and kills your son. Are you still ok with it. I already know the answer to the question. Lets see how many will be honest about it. A person can support the second amendment. And support protecting ones self. And still be able to admit when something stinks really bad. And this shooting stinks about as bad as it can get. 0 -

Huh? I think the parking lot commando was being a jerk, but I sure didn't see where he seemed to be threatening the woman in the vehicle, and certainly not the tough guy who wanted to be a big man by attacking a guy twice his age and half his weight. The baby daddy assaulted the guy with no warning and no provocation. Criminal battery, plain as day.
You think most people, here or elsewhere, would do that? I'm not convinced the younger man needed shot, but he certainly should have been arrested for an unprovoked battery. If it had been my son, I would hope and pray that he wouldn't get shot for an unprovoked attack like that, but I would first hope that he wouldn't attack someone in that manner.0 -

I see what you are saying, and can't say I totally disagree with you, but this event is a very interesting one (and tragic). The bolded part is really the crux of the matter. At the risk of Monday morning quarterbacking, it does appear that the younger man was not continuing his assault, and also that the older man delayed his shot and fired when he wasn't being assaulted.
But the other side of that coin is that he may have perceived the younger man as still being a significant threat to his life and safety. Certainly, police are usually given at least this much benefit of the doubt when deciding whether a murder/manslaughter charge is warranted. As I said, a number of very bad decisions by three people. And likely bad publicity for gun owners.0 -

There is not a snowballs chance in hell that my FIRST reaction to someone talking to my wife would have been to come up and assault the feller from his blind side.
As stated before, he would not have been shot if he had not blindsided the man shoving him violently to the ground. Only God and the shooter knows what was in the shooters heart; we know what went through the dead guys heart, a bullet.
If the conversation had stayed words I doubt the gun would have been pulled, when the assault happened all bets are off.0 -

The man was walking away. The guy shot him as he was turning to walk away. We must be watching a different video. I think your seeing the one your wanting to see. If your ok with killing someone over what that guy got killed over. Then we have very different views on the value of human life. The mans life was not in danger. Period. The video shows that beyond a shadow of a doubt. You either are willing to see it. Or your not. But its right there on the video0 -

I do agree with you about one thing. A dose of real world reality is definitely needed. I think that need is alot closer than you might realize. Talk about the blind leading the blind. The guy stood his ground, and that may have been the sacred parking spot, the only thing left that may have respected his wife.
The asshats robbed him of his wifes dignity and had the audacity to antagonize him, then use that as an excuse to physically assault him.
If you notice, she was exiting to get physically violent too.
Oh and she claims they were in fear of their lives. Why didn't they move the car, they were the ones wrongfully standing their ground.

Kudos to this brave man who took a stand for disabled people all around the world.
And this is coming from a guy who don't like all the handicap spots lining every hardware store parking lot. And from a guy who thinks that fat people are lazy not handicapped.

Agree that the white guy should have never said a word to the party parked in the handicap zone. As for the timing: From the time he was pushed down until he fires is about 4.5 seconds, and the time from pointing it until firing is about 1 second.

Since some are explaining this with hypothetical assumptions, what if the shooter was disoriented after being slammed to the pavement and he couldn't discern weather or not his attacker was going to continue his assault? 0 -
In my lifetime I have taken some fairly serious whippings and stomping and showed up for work the next morning. At this stage in my life I know I can?t do that no more. If somebody convinces me they intend to beat or stomp me I will do everything in my power to stop it. Violently shoving me into the concrete would convince me. This may not be a legal viewpoint, but that?s how I see things. 0 -

I have this one figured out. This is just my inferences I have no inside scoop.
I was astonished to read that the white guy was 47 years old. He looks, and moves, like a guy twice that age. I am 67 years old, and I get around like an Olympic athlete compared to this guy. He is bent over at the neck and walks and moves in an awkward way.
So, this guy either suffered some bad trauma, like he was in a bad motorcycle wreck, or else he has some debilitating disease like the Lou Gehrig.
So, he has spent some time as a handicapped person and he has often parked in the handicapped space.
And, many times he has had to walk 300 feet across the parking lot, parking in a regular spot, because some jackass who was not handicapped had taken the handicapped spot, from which he would only have had to walk 50 feet. 300 feet is a long way if you are handicapped.
So he has a real and long time grudge against jack asses who take handicapped spots illegally.
So he was haranguing the black lady and the kid. They deserved to be called out for being such selfish jack asses. The woman should have been ashamed, and should have apologized. But she knew no shame.
So the black mama called the black guy on the Iphone and said, "A cracker is out here cussing us out come and save us!"
So the black guy rushes out of the store, he was the one who parked there, he should have apologized to the white guy and moved his car.
But, he is a selfish sociopathic jackass so he rushes up and violently shoves the white guy.
He saw what I saw in the white guy, a decrepit old geezer who could not defend himself. I guarantee you if the white guy was a 225 pound college football player, the black guy would have decided it was time to talk and not to make a violent physical assault.
So the black guy is a selfish rude POS who parks illegally in handicapped spots, and he is a physical bully who likes to beat up decrepit old guys, especially if they are white.
Once he was shoved to the ground the white guy was between the rock and the hard place. This jerk had already shoved him to the ground, at that point, who was to say he wouldn't take two steps over and kick him right in the head? At that point, you could have a dead white guy.
Yeah the black guy was moving away, he stepped back a step when he saw he was looking down the barrel of a 9 millimeter.0 -
If they hadn't started with those &^%$#(* handicapped parking spaces there never would have been a problem. I hate seeing rows of those spaces empty while I drive round & round looking for a space to park.
There are either too few or WAAAY too many handicapped spaces.0
