Finally got a deal on an engine for the Chevelle
I hate to take advantage of someone needing money, Lord knows I have been in that place many times myself. But when this guy said $250 for a running 70s BBC 454 I had no choice but to load that puppy up on the wifes pickup last night! Now I guess that the SBC I have at the machine shop being stroked to a 383 is going to need a home, maybe a mid 70s Vette! The Chevelle will officialy be a Big Block Chevelle, woohoo!! The thought of putting that 383 in that car has had me depressed, I wanted a 454 and have been looking for one for several years but didn?t want to pay collector prices, patience paid off [:D]

Is that an LS-Series? I have lost touch with BB's since I got out of racing decades ago. I started mouse motor and then went to the LS-6 crate motor that was just a beast.[:)] 0 -

Rocky, define what you think is running? What I consider even without the ignition and fuel source a running long block is not siezed, no spun bearings and no cam lobes ate off. So if you add a fuel delivery system and ignition the engine will run with no mechanical issues, tuning aside.
Ice, show me where I can get a 60s pre emmisions engine for $250. Even running 90s truck engines that do not need rebuilding are bringing around $1000. I ran the numbers on this, the block is a 73-90, the suffix makes this a 1982 4 bolt truck engine.
So what you see is a turd, that tells me you are not a car guy or an engine guy. Because if you were you know that easily for under $2K a retard can get 450+ out of it.
Again, you see a turd, I see a sleeping beauty. And just how many hotrod bigblock Chevys out there running around melting tires and rattling windows do you think started life just like this big turd? More than you think. I personaly know where a 90s truck engine is making a tad over 1000hp with a Blower Shop 671 sitting on it, that engine is for sale and I thought about buying it but then again, how can you be proud of something you did not build? I take pride in making turds run, I don?t buy someone elses finished project, it is more satisfying and brag worthy to build it yourself. Just like the guys with a Hellcat, yes they run and yes I want to drive one but I would rather build a 707HP car than write a check for one.0 -

And I have to say, I like your definition of a 'running' engine. It's contrary to ANYTHING in the automotive world, but that's what makes you unique.

Before I posted anything about this the oil pan came off as did the intake. If I had found anything wrong this post would have been different.
And notice also Insaid ?no mechanical issues?. Add a carb and dist and fire it up.

What kind of numbers are you going for? I hope you have a Manual Transmission for it. Nothing is beter than a BB and a 4 speed.
I would give you one piece of advice, don't make it too powerful then its gets where you don't really enjoy driving it. I made that mistake once, I got carried away and I really regretted both driving fun wise and money wise.
I don't think they made a ugly car in 1969 so you're luck to have one. Post some picks of it if you can.
I am rebuilding a Dodge 360(1974) this winter. I am going to pull it out in the nest few weeks and start tearing it down. I am going to build it back to stock with the exception of a mild Cam, Headers and a new intake/4bbl.0 -

big blocks were always my favorite engine as a young fellow ( have two 69 camaros both are 454 ) the car I am driving has a 454 60 over + a few mods I built about 10 years ago
I well agree with some today"s sbc LS engines are a true hot rodders dream crate engine I just hold the old BBC fondness from years back ..
I think I still have 2 or 3 besides the one in my car
I use to have a garage full I worked for a uncle who ran a recycle yard I brought home every BBC I could afford ( lack of money stopped me ) at the time he got about 150.00 core from the re-builders for a 454 but I could buy them for the 45 to 50.00 scrap price he gave for them complete
sadly I sold them all off years ago washed my hands of cars and hot rods so I thought then got bit by the bug again

by the way capt fun pointed out to me one day BBC has a whole different meaning on the internet not big block chevy

Sam, my F-150 I have the bottom end done on the 302, saving up for a top end kit to make roughly 450 advertised HP. Then that damned boat anchor 390 can join the rest of the junk like that 307 that came out of the Chevelle in the junk barn! The new F-250 is going to keep that 400, just a freshening up and maybe a small cam, intake and carb. Then swap out those bad bedsides, clean the body up and paint it. Think I?m going to sell it when done to finance the 454 build.
Plans, radical. Already have the backhalf kit for the Chevelle, she?s gettin tubbed. The engine is getting torn down, going to let the machine shop build the bottom end and if I have to sell everything I own it is getting a blower. I have always wanted a blower motor, I?m doing it. I saw a Pro Streeted Chevelle at a car show a long time ago. Car was blown with the fattest damn Mickeys under it I have ever seen. Every time I think about that car I get a chub, I want this one set up the same, only candy purple [:D]0 -

Yep but this is something I have wanted since I was a teen. Not going to race it, just want to cruise with a blown big block and rattle windows and scare little old ladies.
