GunBroker uses Master FFL to help manage the Federal Firearms License (FFL) transfer process for items that must be shipped to a receiving FFL dealer.
For sellers, Master FFL helps automate dealer verification, FFL license collection, transfer status updates, and other steps required before an FFL-regulated item can be shipped.
How the Master FFL Process Works
When an item requiring an FFL transfer is sold, the buyer selects a receiving FFL dealer during checkout.
Master FFL then assists with the transfer process by:
- Confirming that the receiving dealer accepts transfers
- Obtaining the dealer's FFL license
- Recording when the license is received
- Updating the GunBroker order when the FFL is received
- Providing the seller access to the receiving dealer's FFL license
- Coordinating with the receiving dealer when additional confirmation is required
This reduces the need for sellers to contact receiving dealers directly to request or verify FFL documentation.
Viewing the FFL Transfer Status
You can monitor the transfer from your Sold Orders.
A transfer status link will direct you to Master FFL, where you can view current information about the receiving dealer and the status of the FFL documentation.
Once the receiving dealer's license has been obtained, the GunBroker order status will update to FFL Received and include a timestamp.
You can then view or download the receiving dealer's FFL license from the Sold Order.
Dealer Eligibility and Transfer Preferences
Master FFL uses dealer information and transfer preferences to help buyers select an appropriate receiving dealer.
The FFL selection process can account for whether a dealer:
- Accepts firearm transfers
- Accepts transfers from non-FFL sellers
- Handles NFA/SOT-regulated items
- Has opted out of receiving transfers
For items requiring SOT/NFA handling, dealers who are not eligible to process the applicable transfer are excluded from selection.
If a buyer selects a dealer whose transfer preferences have not been confirmed, Master FFL will contact the dealer. If the dealer declines the transfer or does not respond within two business days, the buyer will be asked to select another dealer.
Master FFL Document Processing Fee
A Master FFL Document Processing Fee is assessed to the seller for each sold item requiring an FFL transfer through a receiving dealer.
The fee is:
- $5 per sold item — Standard FFL transfer from a licensed FFL seller
- $7 per sold item — Transfer from a non-licensed seller
- $10 per sold item — NFA/SOT-regulated transfer
The fee covers access to the Master FFL transfer services used for FFL verification, license management, and transfer coordination.
The Master FFL Document Processing Fee is separate from GunBroker Final Value Fees, Marketplace Service Fees, and any transfer fee the receiving dealer may charge.
The fee applies to transactions requiring an FFL transfer even when the seller or receiving dealer uses another FFL management or compliance service.
If You Are an FFL Dealer
FFL holders can claim and manage their dealer profile through Master FFL. Maintaining your profile allows you to manage transfer preferences and helps Master FFL determine when your business should be available for buyers to select as a receiving dealer.
If you are both a GunBroker seller and an FFL dealer, make sure your FFL information is also registered with your GunBroker account.
Why GunBroker Uses Master FFL
Master FFL helps streamline the transfer process by keeping FFL documentation and transfer status connected to the GunBroker order.
For sellers, this can reduce manual FFL collection, help identify receiving dealers who are able to handle the applicable transfer, and provide a clearer indication of when the required FFL documentation has been received.
