What's the best tasting HAM?
Wife wants to know what's best? Salt cured, Sugar cured, Smoked? Spiral cut or whole etc. HELP

Got some of that in the fridge right now. On sale this week at Piggly Wiggly for $2.99 a pound.
I like Holland ham it is what Suburpia Submarine Sandwich's uses in their Gold Dust sandwich but I know of no where to buy it.
Badger Boiled ham is what Cousins Subs uses in their Ham & Provolone Cheese sub. That is my favorite sandwich narrowly edging out Suburpia. It is easy to find locally.

There is nothing as good to me as a country ham, soaked to remove a lot of the salt, and baked whole.
As far as Honey Baked, I learned long ago that they are nothing special. They buy the hams, spiral slice and glaze them. There's not even any honey involved! After paying 50-60 dollars several times, I found a recipe for what they do. Last several years I have bought Smithfield sliced hams, baked them a little more, and made the glaze and used a propane torch to do the coating, same as Honey Baked does.
My family says it is better than HB, plus it costs less than a third as much, and I get more ham. [8D]0 -
Old Man Brooks in Spotsylvania Virginia had some of the best Hams I ever ate.
Smithfield is good and if you have never had Smithfield Ham country sausage get on the internet and order some it is so good your tongue will slap your face.0 -

Never met a Proscuitto I liked, but then I am not really fond of ham period. The dried stuff is by far the worst, but very Eastern European and Italian. 0 -
The Publix branded spiral sliced hams are very tasty and have a much lower nitrate level than most other commercial hams. (Its the only one my wife can eat without it causing her problems) 0 -

Best tasting is Heavenly Ham. honey ham..but they pretty much only come from their store and are awful expensive,,We buy cure 81 spiral hams,,decent price and being spiral cut very little waste, we cook it one day as a meal,,eat sandwiches from it the next, the take any left and freeze for another round of sandwiches or omelettes,,Always save the bone and any scrap pieces for a pot of baby Lima beans 0 -

Wish I knew what brand it was but a local Market at Christmas and Thanksgiving put out a ham they cokked up and you can buy it by the pound. Man is that some great ham. 0 -

Little known fact:
Back int the 90's Harris Teeter was in buy out talks with Piggly Wiggly. The deal was almost done.
Oddly, a white knight appeared (in finance terms) in the form of Dolly Parton- who had a significant ownership in Big Star grocery stores (who here remembers them???)
It looked like everything was going to work for one of the biggest consolidation plays in corporate America. The conglomerate of Harris Teeter, Big Star and Piggly Wiggly would have been a dominant force in over 1/3 of the Nation.
It all fell apart on the new name proposed by Dolly...

the Hutterites makes some dang good meats out here around holiday times. hams are smoked and cured the old time way and the turkeys rate excellent also 0
