Smithfield. Period. Dry cured ham, eaten in very thin slices. Saltier than a pretzel. Kind of American Proscuitto. Made only (by law) in the town limits of Smithfield VA.

Prolly Burger's - Attic Aged. That is, if you like REAL ham, made the old fashioned way. They are sugar cured, smoked and aged 9-12 months. Beware though, these are not City hams (like what you get in the grocery store). They have a robust flavor and are generally firm.

I'll see if I can find a link.

BTW, these are uncooked hams, so they really are the real deal.
I believe the "curing/smoking" of the ham actually "cooks" it...The ham is not "raw" or "fresh",or it would not be considered "ham". It would be "fresh"..[;)]That ham can be eaten just as it is..

I'm going to go with Smithfield's, but with a warning..As it has been stated here, Smithfield uses an old fashioned smoking curing process that is appreciated by oldtimers who learned before freezers and sterilizaation that is so important to city dwellers now.

It is done in a primative method that is nothing short of wonderful if you're from the right period.

However, if you're a city slicker, scared of the country, them germs are out to git you type, I suggest you aviod it. That way there will be more left for me.

Ham from the Polish firm of Kracus is probably the finest ham I have ever eaten and when it come to pork products (and vodka), no one knows the stuff like a Polelock!

    Prosciutto Di Parma

With a little Brie cheese, some water crackers or fresh Italian bread, and a good red wine...now that's a special treat. One of my favorites.

Have your local meat market order you a fresh, non-cured ham, and bake it like a roast. It's the best ham you'll ever eat.

    We like honey cured ham.
Also google Heavenly Ham for a store in your area. It's a franchise and very good.

Well, nine years after I posted this ... I still have to vote for Proscuitto. Especially anything imported, from older, acorn-fed hogs and cave aged.
