Hanging Winchesters on the wall

I would like to hang some of my lever action guns on the wall in my gun room. Anybody done it? How did you hang them. It's drywall.

    But seriously, pick out a nice clear pine or other wood depending on how much you want to spend and how much you need. With Forstner bit drill angle holes and glue in some 3/4 in. dowel rod to length you need according to length of you rifle and where you want to hang. Make your board (or boards) at least 18 in. so you can mount with screws directly into wall studs, which should be 16" on center. By doing this you are not depending on some wall board anchor and your guns won't be touching the wall. Just a place to begin thinking about this, wood can be long as you want if you are mounting all around the room on one level or stacking, how fancy you want edges to be, scalloped or beaded looks nice, etc. I hang my 1894 Marlin on a board where I mounted some horseshoe hangers I welded up myself. Looks nice. I lined the shoes with stick on type felt to protect my rifle. Let us see what you do with yours when you git-r-done.

    I have a bunch of wall hangers...all functional rifles.

    Here is what I do:

    Buy some brass towel hooks, the ones with the single hook.
    They cost under $5 for a pair. Buy some 1/8" toggle bolts.
    One toggle bolt per hook is sufficient...I have a Swiss K-31 hanging. These things are really heavy. Still up!

    Place rifle in the position you want to display them. Some of mine are on angles, even a 35 degree...you can get very creative.

    Depending on rifle, figure out the best place to support the rifle...usually around the 1 @ stock grip and 1 @ the foregrip. Another good location is the trigger guard.
    Try to balance or distribute the weight of the rifle.

    Mark location with a pencil...install toggle w/brass hook and your done. I place a piece of clear hose...the fuel type for small engines at the end of the hook to protect the rifles finish.

    I wipe them down about every 2-3 months. My AC cranks year round...no rust issues at all.

    Just take the rifles and an 8lb. sledge and beat imprints into the wall!! There you go![:p][:p][:D]
