He was one of those who laughed and smiled real big everytime he touched a rifle. Something was wrong up there. I think he's played too many video games.

    That describes most of us...................

quote:He wanted to argue with me that the entire Military has switced to the M14 from the M16. He said the 223 is worthless and they needed something that could shoot through walls.

Sounds like some direct quote from these forums.

Ha, no. I showed him an M1 and when he shouldered it, he put his eye about 1/2 behind the rear sight.

I'll let him go, sooner or later he'll be walking around with a busted nose and a black eye. [:)]

I was watching something the other day on the millitary channel that said that some of the troops were using the M-14 again for something but not replacing the M-16 at all

"He wanted to argue with me that the entire Military has switced to the M14 from the M16. He said the 223 is worthless and they needed something that could shoot through walls."

I think that would be a good idea.

By the way, I have seen many M-14s being used in our present conflicts - on TV. It seems that most are in Afghanistan.

The M-14/7.62NATO is far superior to the M-16(variants)/5.56NATO.

    Except for the girlies.

I agree with that Doug, but he told me the entire MILITARY turned in their 16's for 14's.

When I was in boot camp we called the old 1903A3 a "piece". Rifles are mounted on ships.

    Greetings,

Sounds like that young man is dumber than a bag of hammers! However, it also sounds like his "heart" is in the right place. If he is even thinking about joining the Marine Corps (ahemm! Navy Infantry) I am proud of him ! He may have been born a little short-minded, or maybe no one has invested any time in him. Maybe no one has been a mentor. Maybe the grown men in his life just sort of laughed at him and let him go.

In my opinion, its okay to get a chuckle out of a dumbass, so long as you do something to try to cure them. If you just see them as entertainment, then that is plain wrong.

I hope this young man does get in the "Corps". I hope he gets a good DI. God Bless him and all who will help him.

Send him up here to me! We have reservists coming from your area, cubslover. Maybe he could splain how all the M-16a2s in my armory are M-14s. I don't know, maybe they were switched out overnight...I didn't check this morning.

quote:I think he's played too many video games. Bingo and he is probably pretty good at those games so he is thinking the military is the place for him. Will probably wet his pants and miss the first time somebody shoots back. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try educate him.

They had a program on the military video games on TV last night. I just caught bits an pieces but it appears many of the game developers work hand in hand with the military to produce training "games" and many of the civillian versions are a spinoff. The military indicates the value of this training lies only in the srategical training it provides and usually does not flow into marksmanship and other skills. Many gamers don't have a clue that shooting the real thing and getting shot back at are going to be totally different.Games have no consequences.
