    =============================

Back to the question of Should America Be English Language Only?

My answer is no to that specific question.

You are forgetting the Native Americans. Try learning to speak Native Cherokee if you want to scorch a few brain cells with knowledge.

Then head down our way and learn the fine art of speaking Hillbilly.

Once you learn Cherokee and Hillbilly you will be ready to head South a little farther for some Cajun lessons.

No problem with speaking languages other than English. But it should be expected that you be able to speak English if you're going to live here, and no breaks should be given those who choose not to do so. Can't read the contract or instructions? Gee, I'm sorry, that's really too bad. And, common courtesy dictates speaking English when in the presence of your fellow citizens (just as common courtesy dictates you don't whisper in front of people).

BTW, I didn't vote. As stated, I'm against English language ONLY, but I'm also against even appearing to support the idea that people in this country ought to be able to conduct business and other public affairs in any language they please. That's the problem with most polls -- they're worded in very simple terms that are fully intended to yield a pre-determined result.

  • CA sucks
US only, except on reservations, which are essentially sovereign entities who should be able to decide what language and laws they want.

The term "US" should exclude any Indian reservations, as they started as land officially ceded to sovereign entities. The remaining ones should be treated as such.

All laws in the US derive their legal power from the constitution, and guess what language the supreme law of the land is in? English.
All official government business should be conducted in English.

Government schools, trials, voting, tax forms, etc. Translators should be hired at the expense of those who need them, not provided by the government.

To this I would add that who cares what private enterprise does but government definitely should be English only without providing any sort of interpreters courtesy of taxpayers.

That's is a very incorrectly formed question. I wonder why they phrased it the way they did. Does it suggest every other language is to be outlawed?

(red - spelling, speaking of fluency)

"That's is a very incorrectly formed question."

Ain't to great of English there either sneeky.

Oh and it wasn't a question, it was a statement!

"I wonder why they phrased it the way they did."

    Who's they?

It's still fluent English. I missed a few, you missed a few, were both fluent!

And just the opposite, no language should be outlawed.

but once again, if you live in the USA you need to be fluent in ENGLISH!!

If nothing else fluent enough in spoken English that you can communicate with other English speaking people of this country!

They in this care are those who are conducting this poll.

I think the most annoying "press numero dos" thing I heard was at 21st Century when the started speaking spanish to me. When I got a live person I canceled my insurance with them and told them I don't do business with people that are turning this country into mexico.
