    I voted yes. I belive citizens should speak english. I dont care what the tourists speak, but citizens, need to be able to speak english.

    The USA has never been an english only speaking country. This country was made from up of people from many different countries,, Ireland, Poland, Germany, Italy, China, all establishing little neighborhoods made up of their own kind.

    when a Kid I knew many families that didnt speak english, as I lived in A large city. Most worked in the steel mill and their grasp of the english language was minimal at the least.

    I think everyone in a country should have a working knowledge of the language most used, as I learned a working knowledge of the languages of the countries I was stationed in while in the service..

    Go to Miami, in some communities there you dont hear english spoken. I have people here that come to the range that speak poor english, they just happen to be from poland and that is what they speak to each other.

    Did the USA so called founding fathers forsee the influx of different societies migrating to this country?? I dont think so or they might just have put an official language in the law, or did they see there would be a big difference in cultures in the future so made no reference to any language being the OFFICIAL language..

    Some of you that think that the Indian res is a "sovereign nation" are living in a dream world.

    All criminal laws apply unless specifically excluded by state laws. And also all criminal and civil laws are tried in regular courts, unless specifically excluded by state law.

    Were they get a break is in civil cases. If you try to sue a business that is located on a res, good luck. They have to agree to allow you to sue.

    Didn't vote cause I don't like how the question was worded. I do agree that in order to become a citizen it should be a requirement that you are fluent in english. Frankly I cannot imagine moving to a country with the intent of staying there without at least making an attempt to learn the "common" language. My great great grandparents did it as a matter of survival. They still spoke their native tongues at home but communicated with the general public in english. How long would one get by in Mexico without learning some spanish? I doubt they would bend over backwards to accomodate you.
