That sucks. Somebody had it in for you and was looking for an excuse. It stinks right now but in the long run you will better off out of a place that doesn't appreciate you.

Good luck with the job search. Keep a positive attitude.

Kind of hard to give up a job i really like... Repairing engines in a climate controlled, clean factory. Especially when i was makn 20.25/hr... And had been plenty of overtime, i averaged bout 65-70 hours a week. Only thing i'm worried the most about is the history of workin there, gettn fired and not bein able to get some other job in the area. For some reason its hard to get a decent job locally if you are ever fired or layed off from them... Oh by the way I was workn at Cummins....Home of the diesel that goes into the dodge ram...

It might be a blessing in disguise. I was fired from my last job. I had hated it since a bigger company bought us out and everything changed. Alot of politics and backstabbing.

Then I found my current job and couldn't be happier and my higher ups couldn't be happier with me. Love my current job and thank God I got fired from my old job I hated.

I take it you don't belong to a union? Just my .02 but here is where a union helps. You DON'T work thru breaks, you DON'T work thru lunches, and in a case like this, you get to have your voice heard thru your union rep.

Good luck in the job search. I mean that sincerely.

So, was the problem that you didn't take your break at the assigned time?

Working through breaks is ok if that's what you choose, but don't think it'll cut any mustard with management, even with a good guy.

Sounds like a job worth fighting to keep - any appeal process there, or maybe with a state labor board?

Everyone has a boss. Go over the guy's head, who fired you. Your work and attendance record ought to be enough to defend you. 10 years is alot of time invested to just throw away.

Been there, done that, got the 5 page resume to prove it.[:D]

Take some time off, smell the roses, drink the beer, and go find another job, or better yet, a career.

The bigger pic in short story form.... Yes i'm in union... Back in 2003 i got fired from them, same guy, for scrapping fuel injectors out( they where scrap). went thru grievence and arbitration... Arbitrator ruled 100% in my favor. Thet had to give job back--senority, job, all 13 months of back pay, etc.... In 2006 an agreement was made between me, my team and and management one day. The next day i came to work the agreement was broken completely. I went off and shut an engine down that was running in audit. They said agreements were made to be broken. Same guy involved with first firing fired me for 2 days then said if i signed a last chance agreement they would not fire me(union agreement with company). The "last chance agreement" lasts for 2 years. If i get in trouble the union cant back me under this agreement. Well that all leads up to what happened yesterday... It aint right, i've worked hard, took pride in my work, never tried to cheat them out of anything, stood up for what i thought was right and always kept my word....Cant figure what the He** i've done to deserve any of this.... I hope he gets what he's got comn too him one day.

Sorry to hear about that. Sounds to me like you might have a reason to sue. I'd lawyer up and get your team to testify on your behalf. Chances are the company will sack your POS manager and give you your job back.

Not in Indiana. There is very little an employee can do. Parts of Indiana are hopping right now with work. Heck, you have a Honda plant that will be starting people off in the 18.00 range being built. Go get it a job there, Honda is a great company to work for.

Sorry to hear the news. It really sucks when you want to do a good job, but can't please a idiot.I hear your disappointment and I can identify with it. Good luck, at least, in my experiences, there are very few bosses that have little respect for the employees, and they don't last.

If you like working on engines. Caterpillar rebuilds their engines right along the assembly line in Lafayette. They are always looking for people. Subaru was picking able bodies off of the street. Might be a big move but, housing prices are really low because of a few select builders building without owners.

And that is where you went wrong. I am not passing judgement, but it seems that in this case your actions were out of line. You should have filed a grievence.
I understand that for 2 years after this incident you worked hard and didn't do anything out of the ordinary, however, I would suggest that from that point on, you were labeled a troublemaker and were on the block, so to speak.
I realize that the union will not back you, but you should still be covered under the contract. Just because you signed a "last chance agreement" shouldn't mean that the terms of the contract do not apply to you. You just don't have the benefit of union backing. If it is common practice for union employees to work through breaks and then take them at a later time, then you have grounds for a wrongful termination grievance. If not, I think you may be hosed. Lastly, you may want to check with your BA and see if they will escalate the issue within the union. Just because you signed an agreement, doesn't mean that the union (who did not sign the agreement) can't come to bat if they are willing.

If you just want to bitch about the manager that fired you, then spend that time looking for a new job.

I take it he put all this in writing to you? File your complaint with the Union Rep. stay home. I believe it was a misunderstanding. You will get your pay for days off.Ask the union rep for the company log of firings and write ups and reasons. Sit tight I would like to see HIS bosses reaction when this goes down. He seems like a loose cannon. Unless you have a record of screwups and write ups I would advise you to contact your Union rep in writing about the incident. I am a little confused , this guy was not your boss but a boss on another shift?

In real estate it's location, location, and location.

In your case it's documentation, documentation, and documentation.

    Good luck!

If you hadn't mentioned engines, I might have thought you worked for Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville, and your boss was a brainless coward named Rich Carter.

That's a bad agreement, and set the stage for what they were obviously attempting for quite a while.
Unless you have some sort of disability, or are part of a "protected group", a lawyer can't help you. If you do fall into one of those categories, i'd sue em senseless. They obviously had it out for you, and discriminated against you. But, if you are a white male with no medical disability, the law allows them to discriminate against you if they don't like you.
I've been through this before, and luckily for me (sort of) i have a documented medical disability. That is what saved my job. If not, i am simply a white male, and not immune from scapegoat discrimination.

I say the following based only on your side of the story.

Go forward with your life, and get another job. If in deed you are as diligent as you say you are, you will not have a problem getting another good job.

However, do consider sueing the pants off of them for wrongful termmination. If this guy has done this to you, he has done it to others, and it will all come up in litigation. He may probably even be fired because of his actions. Companies do not like law suits, expecially when they are in the wrong because of little tyrants.

Been a "BOSS" for 38 years and never fired a man because I disliked him. No boss worth his salt would. No matter how much I dislike a man or his life style Etc if he does his job he gets treated the same as everyone else. Firing a good worker because you don't like him hurts the boss. He will have to train a new man which costs a lot of money because of lower production Etc. Lower production makes the boss look bad on his next evaluation. MOST of the time when a man is fired he tells his side only and tilts the story in his direction. It's like saying, "Those &%$#%$ fired me for no reason. Heck I've only been fired three times"

Sorry about your luck but if your boss has it out for you then you may want to look into this. Something similar to this happened to an uncle of mine a few years back. Maybe you could at least get a severence (SP?) package out of the deal. Best of luck
