Got Fired.....
What else can i say, but the A**hole manager from another shift finally got one over on me. Funny i worked through my break and kept working till finally i needed a break. Started working at 2:00 stayed busy fixn engines THEY need till 6:00... Finally decided to take a break and go have a smoke. He comes out puts me on "NOTICE". i try explaining myself. Next day (today) They terminate me. Dont understand the morals of management anymore. My direct boss wasnt there and wouldnt of said anything let alone any foreman on my shift, since they know me and know i work hard. 10 years down the drain workin there. The guy that said i was "inattentive to duties" wouldn't even listen to me. Nor listen to the team i work in telln him i worked thru my break... Hell i even worked thru my lunch after he put me on notice. Hes had it out for me the last 4-5 years...He dont care as long as he looks good.... Where have the morals gone with such people?

Been a "BOSS" for 38 years and never fired a man because I disliked him. No boss worth his salt would. No matter how much I dislike a man or his life style Etc if he does his job he gets treated the same as everyone else. Firing a good worker because you don't like him hurts the boss. He will have to train a new man which costs a lot of money because of lower production Etc. Lower production makes the boss look bad on his next evaluation. MOST of the time when a man is fired he tells his side only and tilts the story in his direction. It's like saying, "Those &%$#%$ fired me for no reason. Heck I've only been fired three times"
A boss that treats every one the same, as long as they all do their job the same? You are a rare breed. Where do you work?0 -
IDIANA[;)] Same company for 48 years. 0 -
These guys did you a favor. Never, never, never work for jerks. Find someone who gives a hoot and stick with them. A good diesel man can find work anywhere he wants. Good luck! 0 -
I just realized that, if you write out A-holes the auto censor prints it on-line as "jerks." So when you go back and read all the comments it gives new emphasis to what they are saying. Kinda fun. 0 -
if your direct boss is worth his weight, hed be standing by your side. where is he? 0 -
Let me get this straight You are a gun nut you got fired by a jerk and you didn't go back in and blow everyone away...
If the Dems get should hear of this ...there goes our freaking reputation!!!0 -
Been there....who hasn't?
Worked at a place for 5 years. Reason they gave for firing me? "She just didn't have a grasp of the job..." HUH?!? So, I was retained as an employee for 5 years producing substandard work because.....?
Probaly a good thing it happened, sounds like your boss is a #!*&.0 -
Sooner or later EVERYONE gets fired or laid off. Not too much difference. I was out of work for an entire year when it happened to me. That's when I found out that nobody wanted to hire an old, fat guy. Finally got hired as a security guard for minimum wage. Now I'm retired and they can ALL kiss my ass!

Last time I got fired (April 02) I had moved to Idaho for this job, lead guy there told me they had "2 to 5 years of work in their hip pocket". They started laying people off after 6 months there! I got it 6 months later ( I had a 1 yr. guarantee) I had just bought a house 5 moths prior, not alot of my type of work in Idaho, so had to go out of state. Ended up back where I started from in Calif.! Sold the house in Idaho, but lost $7,000 on the deal.
I see the company I worked for in Idaho is advertising again for people in my profession. It would be a cold day in H#LL before I'd go back ...even though the thought of getting out of Calif. makes me feel warm and fuzzy! IF I ever meet up with the lead guy again ...I "think" we would have words ...at min.!!!
Getting fired feels like cr*p ...but it normally works out for the better ...better company and maybe better pay! ...Did for me, HOPE it does for you!!! Try looking at these sites.

I take it you don't belong to a union? Just my .02 but here is where a union helps. You DON'T work thru breaks, you DON'T work thru lunches, and in a case like this, you get to have your voice heard thru your union rep.
Good luck in the job search. I mean that sincerely.

If nothing else stick em for unemployment. 0 -
Not to sound like Pollyanna, but got fired once by a really lousy boss. Who, 60 days later, was fired by HER boss. Best thing that ever happened to me. I am now making about 700% of the wages I made then. And I am not working for idiots. Right now, the National employment rate is very high- means that companies have a real challenge finding good workers. Means YOUR chances at finding a good job w/ good management is excellent. Maybe not there- but still darned good. [:)] 0 -

Wow,after 10 years they fired you?Sounds like they have been trying to get rid of you for awhile.A 10 year hand couldnt get fired around here if he tried. You sure theres nothing else to the story? You say youve been fired before for stealing scrap(defective parts that need to be returned to the MFG.),I tell ya ,It sounds to me that you may be a bad egg and deserved what you got IMHO.Plenty others out there that NEED a good job like yours.HELL,If your a union man you must have REALLY been screwing up to get fired.[;)] 0 -
I guess I busted up this party didnt I............ 0 -
If it'll make your day better, I am getting fired in 2009.
The US Navy is taking over the US Air Force and will be subcontracting out the work here to a defense contractor owned by the Parsons Group out of Philadelphia. I have no idea what country or State I'll be working in after that....definitely won't be for the contractor.
Maybe I'll just flip out one of these days and go to the Mexican border and start a war.
This'll be the 3rd time I've been contracted out of a job working for Uncle Sam....for craps sake.0 -
I've heard so many people say "getting fired was the best thing that happened to me".
I have to say "Man it sucks." Job interviews is an ancient form of torture. I looked hard for a month then took a job at a factory. I started as the troll in the basement. Worked there for 5 years to have an opportunity to get a comparable job. Then circumstances change and they give the job to some management trainee that corporate gave 'em. I do the job as a back up and everyone knows I do it better than him. So I stand in limbo as they talk about "restructuring". In the meantime I get overtime and union benefits, but I know if I screw up, the company or union won't back me up.
I feel like I'm close to that big step forward, but so often it's been one small step forward followed by two steps back.
Heck, then again Joseph spent 7 years in an Egyptian prison before being second to the king. I still believe good things comes to those that work hard and stay positive.0 -
Do others still there work through their breaks? I may be wrong but I think federal wage and hour law prevents this. It's in the interest of the employer to see that employees take their breaks as scheduled.
Allowing employees (not asking or telling them) to work beyond a certain amount of time without a break may be a violation of federal law. Might be worth looking into just to cause him some grief.

All right...Just to set the first firing straight, was caused more by the loudest "FOUNDER" in the whole plant. Ya know the one that has very high seniority and think they know it all. Yes he was a union member same as me, and ratted on me to the plant manager for something i was doin and didnt know i should be. The same guy who has a hand in firing me the 3 times is from another shift. He is considered 3rd from the top in the plant. My main boss for my shift is out for the week... I did go by the union hall today and talked with my board member. I was goin to go to corporate to speak to the lady that is above my plants human resources. Never made it, the union called her and left voice mail. Just so happens corporate is across the street from the union hall. She came on over. The board member, me and the lady fron labor relations discussed the matter. I told her my side. Now tomorrow they are goin to meet ie.. hr from my plant, board member and the guy that fired me. Oh by the way the guy that fired me walked by 5-6 other people also smokn, didnt say a word to them- comn or goin- just to put me on notice. The investigation they held was all one sided. I never was included. They hung a nuse and wanted someones neck in it. Oh by the way i think the door is still open for me, bein as how they handled things. Guess i'll know tomorrow. 0 -
Oh one more thing.. since i thought the door was cracked abit, i didnt beat the crap out of him....... Heck he didnt even show for the firing.... Now if the door shuts completely all the way, i might have to trak him down.. i wont shoot him, but he's gonna hurt.lol 0 -
Oh well, the weather was mighty nice round here today.. Mowed my grass, drunk a few beers, sipped on some Makers Mark,[:D][:D] worked on my garage some more. I finally got concrete in it. Spent time with the kids outside..... May be tore up bout work, but kids made me forget about it for awhile. I love hem boys.[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D] 0 -
I have never met anyone who was fired for just cause. Of course, the labor board has. Don 0 -
It's a bummer now but I'm sure they did you a favor.Diesel mechanics are in high demand no matter where you are. Cummins in general is hands down the worst engine manufacturer to deal with. I've dealt with them personally when I had to for the last 12 years and as a former flat rate diesel mechanic you learn quickly to pass on cummins warranty. Find a place where you are respected and don't look back.Good luck. 0
