Ive also heard things about barrell sleeves but ive never seen anyone selling them for the mini. while surfing the web one day I saw an accurizing rigidity strut. has any one used this and had some success with it?
my mini shoots a 4" grouping give or take an inch depending on the conditions and barrel temperature. this wouldnt piss me off so much if it shot in a circular triangular pattern but instead it will shoot one round up the next down the next one up and continue this pattern until i get fed up and leave the range.

    Wow.

I've got a Mini-14 and just love it. I've got a flash suppressor, a barrel shroud and a folding stock on it. I can't tell you what each has done to change the accuracy (if anything) because they were all installed at the same time. But, the gun does shoot better than it did out of the box.

My suppressor isn't a Brownells -- I picked it up at a gun show many years ago, but it is a pretty generic one. It has a ghost ring instead of a blade for a front sight.

I don't know it this will help, but I would try different ammo too. I bet the ammo your using is a hotter round. I would try some Black Hills or something lighter.

I normally run remington UMC 55gr FMJs because this ammo is sold in every department store near where I live its also rather inexpensive. I have heard that heavier ammo will help bring down my grouping. I have seen online that Hornaday sells 75gr .223rem ,I think its for self defense purposes, but I personaly have never come across any.

The guys over at www.perfectunion.com have a fairly good Mini group, perhaps you could check out what thy've found to reduce the group size.

I know it's not a mini, but I've found that in my 10/22. The lower the velocity the better the group. I would think that the larger bullets would equal lower veracity.
When I shoot a high velocity bullet it wonders everywhere. I can be up, down, left, right, etc

I have heard that people have had lots of success with the accustrut system Im thinking of doing something simmilar, I will probably make it myself becuase I dont want to pay a buck and a half, and my father is a machineist and hes real good at this kind of stuff. I really apreciate all the replies thanks

I never understood why people insist on gold-plating a turd. At the end of the day, all you've done is cover the stink and are still left with a turd.

Your best bet is to find a load your gun does best with, as far as the muzzle break I dont think it in itsself will make the Rifle more accurate. However it may make the rifle easier to shoot on your end and make a difference. I own a few of these rifles and 2-3 inch groups have been something Ive learned to accept. Ruger is now manufacturing a Mini-14 .223 that they claim will shoot 1 inch groups. Good luck!

I called ruger's service line and asked them what kind of a group my ranch rilfe should be getting they told me 1.2 inches at 100yrds with match grade ammo. the mini 14 is by no means a "turd" I wouldnt consider any firearm ruger makes a "turd". I just want to know why my rifle isnt getting 1.2" groupings.

Pot metal, plastic, hardwood and built-in slop spells T-U-R-D in any language, else there woudln't be so much attention paid (including yours) to remedying its inherent deficiencies. Ruger should be congratulated: They managed to build a Raven in .223.

I asked for info on how to fix my problem, I however did not ask for your opinion. I personally like this gun for many different resons enough so to want to fix the problem not just sell it and get a new gun like most people do.

I'm sorry, and this is relevant to the Mini-14 not being a turd...why? And if you are going to post on a public forum, do not presume to limit discussion of "fixing your problem" to after-market add-ons; I offered information for "fixing your problem", and you insist on shaking a can of gold paint. Have at it, Leatherdog.

And why is that? You know better? If so, you need only say so, and why. You won't, of course; clowns like you never do, instead contenting yourselves with gratuitous asides that make you appear even more vacuous than your usual postings already indicate.

Mini 14's can be made to be very good rifles. A friend of mine and i built a mini 14 181 ss series to be a very accurate rifle. One of the main issues with the mini is that after alot of shooting accuracy goes out the window. A brace at the muzzel helps alot. my 2 cents [8D]

No. I don't know better. I'm sure I only know a faction of what you know. And I'm not worried about it. I'd rather be a plain Jane, simple minded girl then someone who knows it all and has nothing better to do then to pick fights in order to show people how superior he is.

Well isn't this just so typically self-serving. You pipe in from the peanut gallery with a gratuitous "You just have to ignore DWS. Lord knows we try", and now it is me who is picking a fight and showing people how superior I am. What is with you people? Are you not aware of your own childish impertinence, or is your deluded perception of self to be preserved at any cost?

What's wrong DWS. I agreed with your superior, just like you wanted. But as long as we're pointing the finger on who's wanting to pick a fight.
Wasn't it you that pipe in from your peanut gallery and stated
"I never understood why people insist on gold-plating a turd. At the end of the day, all you've done is cover the stink and are still left with a turd." Or did you piped in from you daycare since turd is a word I mostly hear from 2 year olds.
and wasn't it you that also stated "Pot metal, plastic, hardwood and built-in slop spells T-U-R-D in any language, else there woudln't be so much attention paid (including yours) to remedying its inherent deficiencies. I mean I wouldn't know since I'm not as smart as you, that sure does look like someone picking a fight.
If you pick a fight than don't throw a hissy fit when someone picks one back. Or is that something you superior people do.

My, you certainly do have a chip on your shoulder. That explains a few things. And let me explain the rest:

I have owned two Mini-14's. My opinion is based on first-hand experience. And I am entitled to that opinion. Certainly anyone can disagree, and give cause. And I can respect that. But what I cannot respect is when some impertinent ass with a major chip on her shoulder posts gratuitous remarks in lieu of reasoned rejoinder to the point.

I never thought you were a bimbo. Now you will never convince me you're not.

My mini-30 accuracy was cut from 4in to 2in after I had a gunsmith smooth out my trigger pull for me.

I really like my mini-30. That turd fires everytime I pull the trigger, has never jammed(less one bad magazine), and has a pointability that fits myself perfectly. It hits what I'm looking at more often than not.

I've heard some people say that there's are trash, mine has been nothing but good to me. It's probably my favorite gun to shoot.

I really like the trigger on mine, as far as I know its stock but It feels great, Its far superior to the trigger on the sks I used to own, it was like dragging a cinder block a 1/2" on carpet.[:(!]

Sir, using carefully prepared hand-loads with premium bullets and a great deal of effort will get the groups to tighten up. They may even get down to 1.2 inches, but I sure doubt it. Careful barrel break-in and proper cleaning with Premium bore cleaners like Butches Bore Shine may improve your results also. If you have already cleaned the barrel from the muzzle without a proper fitting guide rod to protect the crown I would suspect crown damage is now hurting your efforts. As far as heavier bullets; it takes a tighter twist to stabilize heavier bullets. The mini-14 is a plinker it does not have a tight twist able to stabilize heavier bullets. This type of rifle will never shoot accurately unless you invest a lot of $$$ into it. Even then you are left with an expensive plinker. Describing it as a turd is not inaccurate from the accuracy standpoint. They are plinkers, plain and simple.

If you need accuracy get a AR based match grade rifle or a bolt action that will have accuracy designed and built into it.

Using standard velocity .22 RF ammo is proven to be more accurate out to about 200 yards. It is a much different world shooting a 22 CF rifle seeking accuracy. There is no real comparison between the two.

That was a fast reply DWS. What are you doing sitting on the computer waiting for my reply?
If you want to state your opinion. Fine. But doing it in a rude way like you did then don't go and throw a fit when someone does the same back to you.
But then again your better than everyone else and the rules don't apply to you. I forgot.
